A news release dated Aug. 1 said Robert Lambert of Montague Township, near Smiths Falls, had last been seen in July 2018. He was reported missing to the OPP's Lanark County detachment on Nov. 30 of that same year.

There has been no trace of Lambert since then, according to police. Then 75 years of age, he required assistance to travel and medication on a regular basis.

Investigators were told in 2018 that he had travelled to the United States, but there was no record of him crossing the border, police added.

The news release said the OPP's Criminal Investigation Branch was overseeing the investigation by the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit 'as foul play cannot be ruled out in the disappearance.'

Lambert was described as standing six feet three inches (191 centimetres) tall with a medium build, white hair and brown eyes.

Additional charges laid against two men accused of throwing rocks at vehicles in Markham

In a news release Friday, Ontario Provincial Police said the charges were laid amid an ongoing investigation into the incidents that occurred between September and November of last year. OPP said the charges stemmed from two separate incidents that happened in both their jurisdiction and York Regional Police's. The suspects, who are 18-year-old men from Markham and Richmond Hill, have each been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of mischief endangering life. They were previously charged with aggravated assault, two counts of mischief endangering life, and mischief damage to property. OPP noted that the incidents happened when both were under 18, so their names cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have been released and are scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court at a later date. One of the involved incidents caused a driver to lose consciousness, resulting in a serious collision that seriously injured two people. North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico under police investigation, OPP confirms
Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed the police service is currently investigating North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico. OPP spokesperson Const. Rob Lewis said because Chirico sits on the North Bay Police Service board, the city's police service handed off the investigation to the OPP. However, Lewis said he could not provide more details about the case including why Chirico is under investigation. Spending under scrutiny In July, Chirico was under scrutiny when it came to light that he had spent $16,000 on personal items using a corporate credit card with the city. Chirico said he was embarrassed by the charges, and that it was an honest mistake. He also repaid the amount charged, and called for the city's integrity commissioner to do an independent study on the issue. City council voted down a motion to have an audit into Chirico's expenses with the corporate credit card. Coun. Jamie Lowery was one of three council members who voted in favour of an audit. "We really do need a fulsome review of what happened," he said during the council meeting last month. "So essentially, a fulsome look into what has gone on, what has transpired, have an independent look on it to ensure that there are no other issues related to these types of issues with purchasing cards within the organization." The OPP could not confirm whether or not the police investigation was related to Chirico's use of the credit card or another matter. "While the City of North Bay has not been contacted by the Ontario Provincial Police regarding this matter, we will provide any information and assistance that may be requested," city of North Bay spokesperson Gord Young said in an email to CBC News.
