Gold Edges Lower Amid Prospects of Easing Geopolitical Tensions

2351 GMT — Gold edges lower in the early Asian session amid prospects of easing geopolitical tensions that typically reduce the safe-haven appeal of the precious metal. Although Friday's meeting between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin ended without any breakthrough, Trump told European leaders that he was open to offering U.S. security guarantees to Ukraine, according to several European officials. Trump said Putin had accepted that any peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict would need to include the presence of Western troops in Ukraine. Spot gold is 0.2% lower at $3,327.58/oz. (

Klook taps banks for US IPO, sources say

By Echo Wang and Julie Zhu NEW YORK (Reuters) -Klook, a travel booking services company, has hired investment banks to help arrange a potential initial public offering in the U.S., according to two people with knowledge of the matter. The Hong Kong-based company, backed by investors including SoftBank Group and Goldman Sachs Group, is working with bankers at Goldman, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan on the planned first-time share sale, said the people, asking not to be identified as the process is private. The deal could come as early as this year and raise around $500 million, they said, cautioning that the timing and deal size are subject to market conditions. U.S. IPO activity has gained momentum, bolstered by strong tech earnings and signs of progress in trade negotiations that have restored investor confidence. Recent listings, including cryptocurrency exchange operator Bullish, and design software company Figma, underscore the uptick in market debuts, reversing a period in the year when uncertainty over President Donald Trump's tariff policies weighed on new offerings. Klook, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan declined to comment. Morgan Stanley did not respond to a request for comment. It was not immediately clear whether Klook will be selling a stake in the IPO, or whether it will be an investor sell-down or a combination of both. Bloomberg News reported earlier the company was exploring a U.S. IPO. Founded in 2014, Klook turned profitable in 2023. It provides various booking services to travelers across a range of locations globally and competes with other global travel booking sites such as and TripAdvisor, as well as China's and South Korea's Yanolja. The company said in February it had raised $100 million in a funding round led by European investment firm Vitruvian Partners, but did not disclose its valuation at the time. Other investors in Klook include HSG, formerly known as Sequoia Capital China. Oil slips as Russia supply concerns ease after Trump-Putin meet

By Florence Tan SINGAPORE (Reuters) -Oil prices slipped in early Asian trade on Monday as the United States did not exert more pressure on Russia to end the Ukraine war by implementing further measures to disrupt Moscow's oil exports after presidents from both countries met on Friday. Brent crude futures dropped 32 cents, or 0.49%, to $65.53 a barrel by 2213 GMT while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $62.57 a barrel, down 23 cents. U.S. President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday and emerged more aligned with Moscow on seeking a peace deal instead of a ceasefire first. Trump will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European leaders on Monday to strike a quick peace deal to end Europe's deadliest war in 80 years. "What was primarily in play were the secondary tariffs targeting the key importers of Russian energy, and President Trump has indeed indicated that he will pause pursuing incremental action on this front, at least for China," RBC Capital analyst Helima Croft said in a note. "The status quo remains largely intact for now," she said, adding that Moscow will not walk back on territorial demands while Ukraine and some European leaders will balk at the land-for-peace deal.
