Man shot dead by Ontario police near Turkey Point Marina, watchdog investigating
Norfolk County OPP say the marine unit tried to stop a boater who entered a marina and fled on foot and that the individual was found by the emergency response team and canine unit.
'During the interaction, police discharged their firearm. The individual was pronounced deceased,' police said, adding that no further comment would be provided as the SIU is now investigating.

The province's police watchdog, meanwhile, said OPP on the water near the marina 'spotted a personal watercraft that got their attention' at 1 p.m. Tuesday and that after police tried to stop the operator, the man headed to the marina, exited the watercraft and ran into some nearby bushes.
A perimeter was set up and an 'interaction' between police and the man saw one officer discharge an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield and another discharge his firearm. The SIU says the 22-year-old man was hit by both and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mississauga gets injunction against plaza owners in ‘disturbances' crackdown
The City of Mississauga has obtained an injunction against the owners of a plaza it says has been home to multiple 'disturbances' for two years. The city said in a notice Wednesday that the Ontario Superior Court of Justice granted its request for the court orders against the owners of Ridgeway Plaza, near Ridgeway Drive and Eglinton Avenue West, to crack down on 'nuisance gatherings.' Mississauga said in the notice that for two years, it has received several complaints, including large gatherings of more than 3,000 people, loud music and sound, parking lot and street racing, fights, and the use of illegal fireworks. 'The local City Councillors, the Mayor, and City staff, along with Peel Police have tried to work with the condominium corporation owners. To date, there has been no co-operation,' it said. 'The City is not targeting any specific groups or individuals; but rather is focused on ensuring public safety and reducing community disturbances.' 'Officers will be on-site to address any issues and, if necessary, may close the plaza, restrict surrounding streets, and remove individuals who refuse to comply with lawful orders. The injunction will be in place until 2 a.m. Aug. 15, and from noon on Aug. 19 until 2 a.m. on Aug. 20, subject to variation by court order. 'The City hopes that the condominium corporations named in the injunction orders will abide by their terms and work to prevent and/or manage any further nuisance gatherings at Ridgeway Plaza,' the city said. 'The City's goal is to make the plaza safe and enjoyable for all who visit and ensure the land and residents of the surrounding community are safe and respected.'

No serious injuries in train-semi crash in rural Manitoba, RCMP say
No one was seriously hurt in an incident Wednesday morning near Dufrost, Man., involving a train and two semi-trucks, RCMP say. Police said a semi travelling west on Highway 23 wasn't able to stop at a train crossing on time, so the driver swerved into the ditch to avoid a crash. A second semi, this one hauling gravel, crashed into the back end of the train and caught fire. Highway 403 reopens in Brantford, Ont., after fatal incident, OPP say
Social Sharing One person has died, police say, after a "fatal incident'" on Highway 403 in Brantford, Ont. The eastbound lanes of the highway, between the King George Road on-ramp to Wayne Gretzky Parkway off-ramp near the West Street overpass, were closed due to the police investigation. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said Monday around 8 p.m. that the lanes had reopened. In a news release earlier in the day, the OPP said they responded to a "tragic accident" in the area at 4:10 a.m. on Monday. The road was expected to be closed "for several hours," police said Monday afternoon. OPP were asking anyone with dashcam footage who may have seen the crash or "anything unusual," to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
