Health department launches counselling initiative for students
As soon as the Class 12 board examination results were published on Thursday, the Health department launched counselling services through TeleMANAS call centre number 14416 and State Health helpline 104. It has obtained the details of 39,000-odd students, who did not pass the board examinations, from the School Education department and is reaching out to them with counselling.
The State government had launched the counselling initiative a few years ago to reach out to students who did not pass the board examinations and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test aspirants.
Based on instructions from Arun Thamburaj, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu, the counselling initiative took off this year as well. V. Venkatesh Mathan Kumar, psychiatrist, Institute of Mental Health, said that through this, they will reach out to 39,241 students - 13,820 girls and 25,421 boys.
'We have got their contact details from the School Education department. If their parents pick up the call, our counsellors will talk to them seeking details of how the children reacted to the result, their mood and so on. If the students answer the call, they will directly ask them for details including if they are facing any issues or parental pressure. Based on the symptoms, we will classify students as high risk, for instance, if they are crying, refusing to come out of their room, feeling guilty, having suicidal thoughts and so on,' he explained.
If they are identified as high risk, the calls will be escalated to clinical psychologists. They will be counselled including with coping mechanisms or emotional support based on their needs. 'If we find them as having suicidal tendencies, we will put them on to the District Mental Health Programme teams,' he said.

Healthcare workers were reminded of their crucial role in mitigating outbreaks, especially as they remain among the most vulnerable if safety protocols aren't followed while managing patients. The advisory reiterated that proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential. Testing protocols must be followed as per the latest guidelines issued by the National Health Mission (NHM), and samples must be sent the same day to ensure timely processing. Health workers were also advised to pay close attention to high-risk groups—children, pregnant women, and the elderly—and ensure mandatory testing if they exhibit symptoms. Further, any ILI or SARI case with co-morbidities must be reported under the P-Form on the IDSP-IHIP platform for better data tracking and response coordination.

VIJAYAWADA: Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday announced that Andhra Pradesh will soon have four new medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model starting this academic year. Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada to mark the NDA government's first year in office, the health minister outlined major health sector achievements, pointed to systemic failures of the previous regime, and laid out a future vision to transform public healthcare in the State. 'The rationale behind the establishment of 10 new medical colleges under the PPP mode is purely a consequence of the previous government's legacy,' Satya Kumar Yadav said, adding that the State government is now prepared to implement reforms with accountability and transparency. Highlighting performance-based achievements, the minister said Andhra Pradesh received a Rs 100 crore performance incentive under the National Health Mission (NHM) a first for the State. Under the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) initiative, the State began construction of 3,318 new buildings with Rs 1,065 crore in central assistance in just one year, compared to 6,000 structures completed in five years earlier.

NDA govt improved medical services in State: Yadav
Guntur: Minister for Medical and Health Satya Kumar Yadav said the coalition government streamlined the medical services at the government hospitals in the State during the last one year. He addressed the media in Amaravati on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he explained how the coalition government improved the medical services at the government general hospitals in the State. He said outpatient numbers increased at the GGHs and the State was moving towards 'Arogya Andhra Pradesh.' Infrastructural facilities have been improved. There is rise in accountability in medical staff. He said the Centre released Rs 100 crore prize for implementing the 30 schemes of National Health Mission in the State during the year 2024-2025. He further said that the government increased the capacity of diagnostic centres in the GGHs to render better services. The Health Minister said the coalition government was planning to conduct medical tests at the doorsteps of the patients through 104 vehicles. Special Chief Scretary (Medical and Health) M T Krishna Babu was also present.
