Fresh off the release of their brand new album 'Wedyan', Lebanese indie rock outfit Adonis is set to take the stage at Cairo Jazz Club 610 on April 30th as part of their 2025 world tour.
Over the past decade, Adonis has been a pioneering force at the forefront of reshaping the Levantine alternative scene, seamlessly fusing elements of rock with dance-pop aesthetics and oriental instrumentation. Their latest offering, 'Wedyan'—marking their seventh studio album—sees the band venture beyond their comfort zone and signature sound, exploring a new terrain of baroque pop and alternative R&B, drawing inspiration from the Arabic pop wave of the 2000s.
The event will feature Hadi Birajakli, a Syrian multi-instrumentalist who has built a reputation for his innovative sonic approach and distinctive fusion of Middle Eastern instrumentation with progressive rock elements, as the opening act. Beirut-Based Trio Prefaces Drops Surf Rock EP ‘Acqua Marina'

Released on Ruptured and Hisstology records, the album is sonically shaped around the recurring imagery of abandoned pools, empty beach clubs and deserted resort towns across Lebanon's shorelines Aug 18, 2025 Lebanese indie trio Prefaces has recently released their sophomoric album, 'Acqua Marina', a sun-soaked instrumental record for off-season beach vibes. Prefaces is made up of three key figures in Lebanon's alternative scene: Charif Megarbane, the creative force and multi-instrumentalist behind the project, Salim Naffah, the guitarist and ensemble player of the dream-pop instrumentals Alko B, and Pascal Semerdjian, the drummer for the prominent shoegaze/pop trio Postcards and post-rock outfit SANAM. While the band's debut album, 'Hippodrome', relied more on improvisation and experimentation with surf rock, their latest offering, 'Acqua Marina', seems more deliberate in tone and form, showcasing a more mature sound for the trio. Each of the musicians contributes their diverse and distinctive tones, distilling elements from vintage surf rock and library music with psychedelic post-rock aesthetics and Levantine textures. Released on Ruptured and Hisstology records, the album is sonically shaped around the recurring imagery of abandoned pools, empty beach clubs and deserted resort towns across Lebanon's shorelines. Across the 11 tracks, the group incorporates sonic cues from prominent guitarists and musicians, the likes of Omar Khorsid, Ennio Morricone, and Khruangbin Allah-Las, with melancholic undertones and ambient reverb-laced grooves, to touch on themes of faded glamour and seasonal drift.

This Beirut Home Was Renovated Into an Archive of Lebanese Design

Etienne Bastormagi and Nada Borgi curate Levantine design into a Beirut home that captures the region's creative spirit. In Beirut's Raouche district, a 1990s apartment was imbued with a renewed purpose. Lebanese architect Etienne Bastormagi, in collaboration with architect Nada Borgi, was commissioned to reimagine the interior to reflect Lebanon's evolving design culture. Inherited from the owner's grandmother, the 350-square-metre apartment held architectural traces of its past - decorative coving mouldings in the reception rooms served as markings of a traditional Lebanese layout. These were retained as integral elements in a composition that places memory alongside new work. The liwan remains the threshold, leading into the salon at the heart of the home, with the dining and living spaces radiating outward. The restructuring allowed for a more open plan and encouraged social interaction, complemented by a curated selection of works from across Lebanon's design and craft disciplines. Furniture, lighting fixtures and various objects were commissioned locally, such as several custom-made pieces by Studio Etienne Bastormagi, some in collaboration with Borgi. These included a long, linear white sofa in the salon and wood-and-marble shelving that threads through the rooms. Material choices were attuned to both craft and atmosphere. In the salon, warm-toned marble coffee tables are set against the textured depth of a large wall fresco. Ceramic planters punctuate the minimal lines with natural forms. In the dining room, a richly hued wool triptych, made from ochre-hued sheep's wool, introduces a tactile counterpoint to the clean geometry of the lighting and seating. The renovation, still ongoing with two guest rooms yet to be completed, already functions as a living archive of Lebanese design. With a focus on local materials and artisanship, the apartment captures a cross-section of Lebanon's present-day creative identity while maintaining a dialogue with its architectural heritage.
