Suryansh Shedge
Promising all-rounder Suryansh Shedge has been named captain of Mumbai's emerging team for a month-long development tour of England, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Monday.
Set to begin on June 28, the tour is designed to provide Mumbai's next generation of cricketers with valuable overseas exposure. The squad will play a series of high-intensity matches aimed at preparing them for the demands of senior-level cricket. Among the standout names are Musheer Khan, a dynamic batting all-rounder, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, a stylish top-order batter, and Himanshu Singh, a rising left-arm spinner.

Several players in the squad already have Ranji Trophy experience, and the England stint is seen as a crucial step in their development. Over the course of the tour, Mumbai will play five two-day games and four one-day matches against a range of competitive sides including Nottinghamshire, Combined National Counties (Challengers), Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire.
MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap emphasized the significance of the initiative:
'The tour is aimed at accelerating player development — enhancing technical and tactical acumen, building mental toughness, promoting cultural exchange, and identifying future senior talent.'

The squad will have the opportunity to adapt to English conditions — often challenging due to swing-friendly weather and seaming pitches — which will test their technique and temperament.
Former Mumbai cricketer Kiran Powar will serve as head coach for the tour, with MCA treasurer Arman Mallick taking on managerial duties. A six-member support staff will accompany the squad to ensure the players are supported both on and off the field.

The MCA views this tour as a key component of its long-term strategy to strengthen Mumbai's cricketing pipeline. With talents like Musheer and Raghuvanshi gaining traction and Shedge leading the group, the tour could mark the emergence of the city's next cricketing stars.

No free swimming as NDMC pools need urgent repair

New Delhi: Unlike previous years when New Delhi Municipal Council offered free coaching to students at its three major swimming pools during the summer, the facilities cannot be accessed this year. The three prominent pools, also managed by NDMC, are located at Mandir Marg, Sarojini Nagar and Laxmibai Nagar, and each facility attracts 100 to 150 young students during the summer. According to officials, there was a desperate need for detailed repair work at these sites before opening them for students. "These facilities have not been repaired for a long time. There are broken tiles and damages at various places such as side periphery, stairs, etc. The civil department needs to carry out detailed repair work. Until the work is completed, we have decided not to open the facilities for students this year," said an NDMC official. For years, NDMC ran the facilities for free lessons for the students staying in the areas under its jurisdiction during the summer. "However, a fee of Rs 500 per month is charged from students residing outside the jurisdiction of NDMC. No outsider and no member staff is permitted to utilise the services at these swimming pools," an official said earlier. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo The council claimed to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of students during swimming classes, which are conducted in morning and evening shifts. Unlike NDMC, Delhi Development Authority has made swimming pools accessible across various locations in the city to provide relief from the heat. The authority manages a network of 17 sports complexes featuring swimming pools for public use, and it has opened them after obtaining fresh permissions. They include swimming facilities at Saket Sports Complex, Yamuna Sports Complex, Netaji Subhash Sports Complex at Jasola, Dwarka Sports Complex Sector 11, Rohini Sports Complex, Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex, and Hari Nagar Sports Complex. "These seasonal pools typically remain operational until the end of Sept," said an official. DDA also maintains all-weather swimming pools, such as at Siri Fort Sports Complex, which remain functional for 10 months annually—from Feb 1 to Nov 30. A maximum of 80 participants are allowed in one session at big DDA pools of Olympic size (25x50 metres) and 40 pools of small size (12.5x25 metres). The swimming coaching charges are Rs 1,250 per person per month in summer.

Shedge to lead Mumbai's Emerging Team to U.K.

Promising all-rounder Suryansh Shedge will lead a 17-member Mumbai Emerging team on a four-week exposure tour to the United Kingdom, starting June 28. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Abhay Hadap announced the squad and the tour fixtures while spelling out the objectives of the tour at a press conference on Monday. Shedge, who has all but cemented his place in the Ranji Trophy, will have three more teammates — Musheer Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Himanshu Singh — with Ranji caps for company for the five two-day and four one-day matches against various opponents. 'Most of the players have middle-class background, so it's a huge step by the MCA to organise the exposure trip,' Shedge said. 'I have always been a busy cricketer. I like to contribute with the bat, the ball and in the field. Captaincy has presented me with another aspect to remain involved in the game. I am looking forward to adapting in alien conditions and helping all my teammates to learn as much as we can in these nine games.' Besides competing and training at various venues, the team will also visit Lord's. Shedge, who will tour England for the first time, stressed all the players were excited to relish the experience, 'where we saw the World Test Championship final earlier in the week'. Neto, Fernández each score to lead Chelsea over LAFC 2-0 in Club World Cup

ATLANTA — Pedro Neto scored in the first half and Enzo Fernández in the 79th minute to give Chelsea a 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC in Group D's Club World Cup opener on Monday. Chelsea put pressure on LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris early into the match. Neto found the breakthrough in the 34th minute, picking up a pass from Nicolas Jackson and cutting onto his left foot for a near-post finish. There were 22,137 fans in attendance at the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium, many of them backing LAFC. The Black and Gold had positive sparks of energy and possession throughout the first half, but struggled to find any real opportunities in front of goal. LAFC almost got one back just before the 60-minute mark, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez came up with an important save to keep Denis Bouanga off the scoresheet. The Black and Gold aimed to get some more experience onto the pitch at the half, bringing on former Chelsea man Olivier Giroud, to no avail. Coming in off the bench, Fernández made no mistake finishing Liam Delap's cross, adding another tally to the scoresheet for The Blues. Chelsea's day was made even more positive by the debut of Delap, a promising 22-year-old English striker signed from Ipswich Town. While Chelsea is the favorite to top Group D, LAFC's next two matches become essential to moving on to the knock-out rounds. LAFC vs. Flamengo will prove to be an entertaining game, with the two sides most likely battling it out for the group's second spot. soccer: /hub/soccer
