Promising all-rounder Suryansh Shedge will lead a 17-member Mumbai Emerging team on a four-week exposure tour to the United Kingdom, starting June 28.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Abhay Hadap announced the squad and the tour fixtures while spelling out the objectives of the tour at a press conference on Monday.
Shedge, who has all but cemented his place in the Ranji Trophy, will have three more teammates — Musheer Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Himanshu Singh — with Ranji caps for company for the five two-day and four one-day matches against various opponents.
'Most of the players have middle-class background, so it's a huge step by the MCA to organise the exposure trip,' Shedge said.
'I have always been a busy cricketer. I like to contribute with the bat, the ball and in the field. Captaincy has presented me with another aspect to remain involved in the game. I am looking forward to adapting in alien conditions and helping all my teammates to learn as much as we can in these nine games.'
Besides competing and training at various venues, the team will also visit Lord's. Shedge, who will tour England for the first time, stressed all the players were excited to relish the experience, 'where we saw the World Test Championship final earlier in the week'.
The squad: Suryansh Shedge (Capt.), Vedant Murkar (vice-capt.), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ayush Vartak, Ayush Zimare, Himanshu Singh, Manan Bhatt, Musheer Khan, Nikhil Giri, Pragnesh Kanpillewar, Pratik Yadav, Prem Devkar, Rishikesh Gore, Harsh Aghav, Harshal Jadhav. Prince Badiani, and Zaid Patankar.
Coach: Ramesh Powar; assistant coach: Deepak Patil; manager: Armaan Mallick; physiotherapists: G. Suresh Kumar and Vinayak Parteki; analyst: Shankar Tanna.

‘England will hold the edge but India will push hard'

New Delhi: Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden believes India will have a strong chance of winning the upcoming Test series against England if they can clinch the games in Leeds and Manchester, but South African pace great Dale Steyn has backed the hosts to triumph 3-2 in the five-match contest. India and England kick off their new World Test Championship cycle with the five-match series, starting with the first game in Leeds on Friday. Manchester will host the fourth Test from July 23. "I don't think England bowlers are that good, they have got a number of injuries and a number of retirees as well, that will be the challenge," Hayden said on 'JioHotstar'. "The northern Test matches when it's zipping around that will be key, win that one and it could well be a series that goes India's way," he added. Since India's last red ball tour of England, the hosts' two most experienced bowlers -- James Anderson and Stuart Broad -- have bid adieu to international cricket. Additionally, England's bowling arsenal is also considerably depleted, with speedster Mark Wood ruled out of at least the first three Tests due to injury. Fellow quick Jofra Archer will also miss the opening game, and Gus Atkinson is continuing to recover from a hamstring strain. India, meanwhile, will take the field under new captain Shubman Gill, ushering in a fresh era following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin. With a youthful batting line-up and limited red-ball exposure in recent months, the visitors will face a stern challenge.

South Africa's World Test Championship win: Winning against odds

South Africa's crowning glory at the home of cricket at Lord's, where they won the World Test Championship title, defeating Australia, tells the world they can step up to pressure. And it will also help them to address, and to calm, the roiling within. A lovely post-win moment from the South African dressing room has gone viral. Ashwell Prince, the batting coach, led a celebratory song about Black captain Temba Bavuma, with everyone in the room mouthing the lyrics. So disgusted was Prince with the treatment he received during his playing days by his own teammates that years later, he found the words to articulate his anger: 'When things went wrong it was the quota players' fault (South Africa's policy to have non-White cricketers in the squad). When things went right, the others were the heroes. As long as I played for the national team, that was not a team. We were never one.' Makhaya Ntini, South Africa's legendary pacer, would run behind the team bus from hotel to ground as he never felt welcomed by his teammates, who wouldn't even sit with him during breakfast or include him in their dinner plans. It's this context that shouldn't be forgotten. And that's why Aiden Markram, who played a phenomenal knock in the final, raved about his captain's strength of spirit. It's not surprising that only when they conquered their inner ghosts, the team could stub out the nasty opposition voices about how they handle pressure. Bavuma spoke about how some Australian players brought up the choking tag as a form of sledging during the game. It would be a fool who would now voice that sentiment in the near future. First they set their house in order, then they countered outsiders' perceptions. That is this South African team's great achievement.
