Saudi Gazette report
TAIF — In the cool highlands of Taif, a city long associated with beauty and tradition, a powerful story of preservation and pride unfolds centered around one of the Kingdom's most iconic symbols: the Arabian horse.
Within this historic governorate, breeders and enthusiasts are dedicating themselves to the meticulous care and preservation of the Arabian horse, widely regarded as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's cultural identity.
Their work is not just a nod to the past, but a living commitment to a legacy that continues to define the nation's spirit.
Dr. Fawziah Al-Salmi, Professor of Zoology at Taif University, highlighted the enduring purity and global status of the Kingdom's horses in remarks to the Saudi Press Agency. 'The Arabian horse is unmatched in authenticity,' she said.
'Thanks to the unwavering dedication of breeders to protect original genes and pure bloodlines, Saudi Arabia has recorded the highest number of Arabian horse births globally. This is not just a statistic. It's a reflection of the Kingdom's deep cultural investment.'Beyond genetics, the symbolism of these horses runs deep. Dr. Talal Al-Thaqafi, a faculty member and cultural critic, described the Arabian horse as a living emblem of courage, pride, and timeless beauty. 'Their connection to our community is profound,' he said. 'Arabian horses are woven into Islamic history and Arab poetry — both classical and Nabati — carrying with them stories of valor, elegance, and honor.'The focus on preserving this noble breed in Taif reflects a broader national vision: to celebrate and protect Saudi Arabia's cultural treasures. Through education, local stewardship, and institutional support, efforts continue to ensure that the legacy of the Arabian horse is not only remembered, but thrives galloping forward into the future as proudly as it has through the past.

Saudi Arabia to host forum on Hajj and Two Holy Mosques history in November

Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) is preparing to host a major scholarly forum in November 2025, focusing on the history of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques, as part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to document and preserve one of Islam's most sacred rites and historical legacies. Scheduled for Jumada al-Awwal 1447H, the event is titled 'Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques: History, Culture, Architecture – Toward Sustainable Knowledge and Digital Documentation.' It will be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Guests of God Service Program, two of the Kingdom's leading entities in documenting the history of the holy sites. The forum aims to advance academic research by bringing together scholars from various disciplines — including history, architecture, Islamic arts, literature, geography, media, and digital studies — to explore new perspectives and methodologies for preserving and narrating the legacy of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques. A key goal is to highlight how emerging technologies can enrich documentation efforts and provide immersive digital experiences that enhance public awareness and global academic collaboration. The event will focus on five main themes: Saudi Arabia's role in serving the Two Holy Mosques; Hajj and the holy sites in historical texts and travel accounts; architecture and visual identity of the Two Holy Mosques; Hajj in cultural memory and social heritage; and modern technologies in Hajj documentation. The Foundation has begun accepting research papers, with the submission window open until the end of Rabi al-Awwal 1447H. The submitted work will undergo a one-month peer review, followed by a one-month revision period, with accepted papers to be announced two weeks after final amendments.
