Delhi plans to launch over 100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs by September
New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) The Delhi government has plans to establish over 100 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UAAMs) between August and September 2025, officials said on Monday.
According to officials, a total of 108 sites have been identified as feasible for setting up these clinics across various civic agencies.
'Of these, 53 sites fall under the Public Works Department (PWD), 38 under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), eight under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and nine are located on properties managed by the Directorate of Education (DoE)," a government document said.
Several existing Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics (AAMCs) will be repurposed into UAAMs, and renovation work, including painting, plastering, waterproofing, tile work and installation of false ceilings, is underway by PWD.
'Tenders have already been floated for repair and maintenance works. Besides upgrading current facilities, new clinics will also be constructed to meet the expansion targets," government officials said However, in some places, the project is facing delays due to pending No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various agencies.
As per the government document, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved only 11 out of 109 proposed sites, while all 39 sites proposed under the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) are still under review. Additional approvals from MCD are also awaited for more than 400 sites identified earlier this year.
The expansion aligns with a health agreement signed in April 2025 between the Delhi Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, enabling the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that Rs 1,749 crore has been allocated for the establishment of 1,139 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The government estimates that the initiative will benefit approximately 36 lakh residents across Delhi by providing basic healthcare services and diagnostic facilities. PTI SSM HIG

78 patients await kidney transplant in Goa: Minister
Agency: PTI Panaji, Aug 7 (PTI) A total of 78 patients are currently on the waiting list for kidney transplant from donors in Goa, the state government informed the legislative assembly on Thursday. In a written reply to a question tabled by Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said kidney is the only solid organ for which transplant facilities exist in the state. Three hospitals — Goa Medical College in the public sector, and Manipal Hospital and Healthway Hospital (both located near Panaji) in the private sector — are registered to carry out kidney transplants under the SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) Goa programme, known as Navejivit – New Life, he said. Among the 78 patients on the waiting list for kidney transplant from deceased donor, 62 are active cases and 16 are currently inactive, the minister informed. The inactive cases implies those who are not eligible for transplant due to medical reasons. On the donor front, Rane said Goa has recorded eight kidney donations of deceased persons and 49 from those alive since 2011, when the living donor kidney transplant programme began at the Goa Medical College. The reply mentions that while SOTTO Goa earlier maintained a state registry of organ pledges, since September 2023, all such data was being fed into the national registry maintained by NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation). 'As of now, 412 pledges have been recorded from Goa on the NOTTO portal, while SOTTO Goa has issued 1,452 donor cards locally," he said. Responding to a query on organ donation awareness, Rane said the government has conducted multiple awareness campaigns, outreach events and collaborations with NGOs to promote organ donation. The delay in organ allocation has never led to wastage or non-utilisation of any organs, he said. The government, however, admitted that since the inception of the SOTTO waiting list, 26 patients awaiting kidney transplants have died while waiting for a suitable donor. Rane said the state does not maintain a waiting list for other organs such as liver, heart or lungs, since the transplant infrastructure for those is not available in Goa. In terms of tissue transplants, Goa has facilities only for cornea transplants. The ASG Eye Hospital and the Healthway Hospital (both near Panaji) are the two centres performing these procedures, the minister said. Till date, 41 corneal transplants have been conducted — 34 at ASG Hospital and 7 at Healthway Hospital, he added. New Blood Group 'CRIB' Found In Bengaluru Woman During Surgery, Identified After 10 Months

The woman required surgery, but doctors were unable to match her blood group despite testing samples from about 20 individuals, including her family members. Remarkably, the surgery proceeded without the need for a blood transfusion. However, determining her blood group became a significant challenge. According to a BBC report, extensive tests in India failed to identify her blood group, prompting the sample to be sent to the UK's International Blood Group Reference Laboratory (IBGRL). After 10 months of in-depth study at the Bristol lab, scientists identified it as a new blood group, naming it CRIB. This name, Cromer India Bengaluru, was chosen due to its association with the Cromer blood group system and its first identification in a patient from Bengaluru. The discovery of CRIB was formally announced in June 2025 at the 35th International Society of Blood Transfusion Conference in Milan, Italy. This milestone is a source of pride for India, showcasing the country's scientific prowess in the medical field and enhancing the global blood donation and transfusion system. Identifying rare blood groups like CRIB is a significant breakthrough, aiding in understanding why blood matching can be difficult for some patients.
