Morocco and Senegal Further Industrial Partnership with Pan-African Vision
Bilateral trade between the two countries has expanded significantly, rising from $98.5 million in 2010 to $370 million in 2024, reflecting deepening cooperation based on mutual trust, solidarity, and economic complementarity.
According to a recent interview with Senegal's government newspaper Le Soleil, Morocco's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized this dynamic partnership and outlined three key priorities to further enhance collaboration:
Transferring expertise in key sectors such as agribusiness and renewable energy.
Sharing and optimizing port and logistics infrastructure.
Establishing joint investment funds focused on regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Mezzour described Senegal as a 'pivotal partner' within Morocco's broader African industrial strategy, supported by ongoing bilateral technical programs. He also highlighted Morocco's robust economy, marked by a 55% increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024, driven by sector diversification, an attractive legal environment, and Morocco's role as a tri-continental connectivity hub.
The minister further pointed to the rapid growth of Morocco's franchise sector, which includes 745 networks—84% international—with an average annual growth of 25% over 15 years and revenues of 20 billion dirhams. The government's 2025-2027 roadmap aims to boost exports, create jobs, and promote Moroccan brands internationally.
'Our ambition is to build shared prosperity with Africa,' Mezzour concluded.
This interview featured in a special edition of Le Soleil commemorating Morocco's 26th Throne Day, showcasing Morocco's development model, industrial goals, and strong relations with African countries like Senegal.
The edition also highlighted key growth sectors such as phosphates, manufacturing, franchising, and sports, with major projects in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the FIFA World Cup 2030.

These initiatives demonstrate what is possible when 'public policy excellence becomes the foundation for development,' he said. Citing Brazil's universal healthcare system and Indonesia's industrial policy, Yahmed argued that these 'successes show that well-designed governance can be the definite engine of economic transformation.' It recalled the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA), which presents opportunities for economic integration. European Logistics Group Launches Direct Shipping Route from Morocco to Northern Europe
Rabat — European logistics company Samskip has launched the Moroccan Reefer Service (MRS). This new weekly maritime line connects Agadir and Casablanca directly to Thamesport in the UK and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. This service transports fresh products and represents the first short, fast, and sustainable shipping route from Morocco to Northern Europe. Faster alternative for Moroccan exporters The MRS targets Moroccan fruit and vegetable exporters by offering some of the fastest door-to-door transit times on the market. The service is designed to provide a credible alternative to transport that combines Mediterranean ferry and road routes, which often takes longer and costs more. The service uses 45-foot refrigerated containers that preserve product freshness while meeting road transport standards. Through Samskip's European network, goods that arrive in Rotterdam will benefit from rapid transshipment to Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, and the Baltic countries, with delivery within days. With the new service, shipments from Agadir to Ireland can arrive in just six days. Strategic partnership with Moroccan fruit board Samskip has signed a long-term partnership with the Moroccan Fruit Board to support this initiative. 'This new connection marks a major milestone, not just for Samskip, but for the entire supply chain between Morocco and Northern Europe,' said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Chief Business Officer at Samskip. He noted that after consultations with the sector's professionals, the company is determined to 'deliver a service that's faster, greener, and more reliable.' According to the company, this service reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to full road transport. The integration of customs formalities and inland delivery also streamlines the logistics chain and strengthens the competitiveness of Moroccan exports. Strengthening Morocco's export position With this new maritime corridor, Morocco strengthens its position as a fresh produce export hub to Europe while embracing sustainable logistics practices. Morocco Places Strategic Focus on Cooperation with Landlocked African Nations
Morocco, thanks to its geographical position and ongoing commitment, has made cooperation with landlocked countries, particularly in Africa, a strategic priority of its cooperation policy, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh said on Tuesday in Awaza, Turkmenistan. 'In a spirit of solidarity and shared development, Morocco continues, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to provide concrete support to landlocked African countries through strengthening South-South and triangular development projects, effectively contributing to improving the livelihood of beneficiaries and strengthening their development capacities,' Kayouh emphasized during the plenary session of delegations participating in the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held until August 8. This commitment has been reflected through several initiatives, notably the Royal Initiative aimed at granting Atlantic Ocean access to Sahel countries, he noted, recalling that this initiative eyes a new framework for cooperation and joint development, by sharing Moroccan experience in infrastructure. This initiative is part of the Royal vision for a united, stable, and prosperous Africa and constitutes a strategic lever for the economic transformation of the Sahel countries by strengthening their strategic independence and promoting their great potential, he said, adding that it is also a great opportunity to integrate these countries into global value chains, thus opening up new prospects for growth and human, social, and economic development for Africa. This conference stands as a crucial step in the development process of landlocked countries, ten years after the adoption of the Vienna Program of Action, according to the minister, with a view to assess progress made, commit to engage in strong partnerships and renew international support for the specific needs of these countries amidst a global context marred by multiple crises and growing tensions, he concluded. Morocco is represented at this event by a delegation led by minister Kayouh, including Morocco's Permanent Representative to the UN Omar Hilale, the Kingdom's Ambassador to the Republics of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan Mohamed Rachid Maaninou, as well as several diplomats and officials from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
