US, Israeli forces hit Yemen's Sanaa Airport

Shafaq News06-05-2025
Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, US and Israeli forces struck several areas in the Yemeni capital, including Sanaa International Airport, according to the Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV.
The airstrike on the airport was part of a wider campaign targeting infrastructure in and around Sanaa. Strikes hit the Haziz and Dhahban power stations in Sanhan and Bani Al-Harith districts; the Asr distribution station in Maeen; power transformers in the Al-Ilman and Kula Judr areas of Bani Al-Harith; the Attan area southwest of the capital; and the Amran Cement Factory—one of Yemen's largest industrial sites.

Senior Houthi official Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti affirmed to Al-Mayadeen TV that these 'American, British, and Israeli strikes targeted civilian infrastructure,' adding that they should expect a response from Yemen. 'Israel has crossed the red line,' he stated.

The raids came roughly an hour after Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a warning on X, advising evacuation from the area near the airport.

This warning comes after a series of heavy Israeli airstrikes carried out on Monday against multiple targets inside Yemen, reportedly under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The attacks left four people dead and 39 injured, according to the Ansarallah-affiliated Health Ministry.
Earlier this week, Yemen's Houthis threatened to impose a 'comprehensive air blockade ' on Israel and urged airlines to halt flights, after a missile landed near Ben Gurion Airport. Israeli assessments suggest the group used a newly developed 'Qassem Basir ' missile, believed to be supersonic and capable of evading radar detection.

Netanyahu: Gaza full control key to freeing hostages

Shafaq News – Middle East Israel's Security Cabinet approved a plan to seize control of Gaza City, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Sunday, blaming Hamas's refusal to compromise in ceasefire negotiations. Netanyahu pointed out at a press conference in Jerusalem that months of negotiations had failed to yield results, accusing Hamas of demanding 'terms of surrender,' including a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the release of imprisoned militants, and binding international guarantees preventing renewed Israeli military action. The only way to secure the release of Israeli hostages was to 'defeat Hamas,' he argued, adding that an alternative strategy of encircling remaining Hamas strongholds and carrying out raids was dismissed by most cabinet members as ineffective. Regarding the duration of the operation, the Israeli PM affirmed he had instructed the Israeli army to shorten the timetable for taking Gaza City, claiming that he does not intend to occupy Gaza, but to defeat Hamas. He also stated that the decision was taken 'despite immense pressures from home and abroad to stop the war,' indicating that halting operations earlier would have left Hamas leaders in power and emboldened Israel's regional adversaries. Our goal is not to occupy Gaza. Our goal is to free Gaza from Hamas my Press conference with foreign media >> — Benjamin Netanyahu - בנימין נתניהו (@netanyahu) August 10, 2025 Meanwhile, Hamas responded in a statement by accusing Netanyahu of trying to absolve Israel and its military of 'internationally documented genocide and starvation crimes.' The group asserted that Netanyahu's talk of 'liberating Gaza' concealed plans for mass displacement, dismantling vital infrastructure, and installing a subordinate administration. It blamed him for exploiting the hostage issue to justify the offensive, despite 'killing dozens' in captivity and abandoning previous exchange arrangements. Citing UN data indicating severe hunger and child fatalities, and alleging that Israel had sealed border crossings and airdropped supplies in hazardous locations or at sea, causing further casualties, Hamas said that over 1,800 Palestinians have died under 'engineered starvation' measures, while more than 260 Palestinian journalists have been killed and foreign media kept out of Gaza. The group appealed to the United Nations and the wider international community to 'pass the moral test' by ending the assault, lifting the siege, and prosecuting those responsible for war crimes.

Israel kills Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza strike, claims Hamas links

Kataib Hezbollah rejects Baghdad clash probe, accuses government of targeting PMF

Shafaq News – Baghdad On Sunday, Kataib Hezbollah rejected the Iraqi government's findings into last month's deadly clashes at the Karkh Agriculture Directorate, accusing officials of 'distortion and exaggeration' in a bid to undermine the group and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). The Iran-aligned faction said it had agreed with leaders of the ruling Coordination Framework to form an impartial inquiry to avoid 'political exploitation,' but claimed Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's spokesman announced 'unauthorized additions' to the committee's conclusions. These, it said, included an investigation into the al-Jazeera Operations commander, dismissal of the 45th and 46th Brigade leaders, and references to PMF leadership flaws. 'These measures are designed to single out Kataib Hezbollah and senior PMF figures,' the group said, urging the judiciary to review the original report before 'tampering.' The group also reiterated its demand for the withdrawal of US and other foreign forces from Iraq, 'regardless of the cost or sacrifices.' Yesterday, Al-Sudani admitted 'flaws' in PMF command and discipline, removing the two brigade commanders and warning that units must follow regulations. The Agriculture Directorate incident erupted when security forces clashed with armed PMF members over a leadership dispute at the facility in the Dora district. The confrontation left two people dead—a civilian passerby and a PMF member—and 12 others wounded.
