Jelly Roll & Brandon Lake's ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah' Collab Certified Platinum
In a video he shared on Instagram on June 20, Lake surprised Jelly Roll with a plaque commemorating that 'Hard Fought Hallelujah' had been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for sales of at least one million units.

The song, which is featured on Lake's June 13-released album King of Hearts, was certified Platinum before the album was even released.
In the video, Jelly Roll says, 'We were just talking about this like six months ago,' and later adding, 'This might be my favorite plaque I've ever had.'
Their collaborative version of 'Hard Fought Hallelujah' cracked the top 40 on Billboard's all-genre Hot 100, while also reaching the top 15 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
'I released [the solo version of] this song, and then I felt like, 'This is too special to not share this song with somebody,'' Lake recently told Billboard of bringing in Jelly Roll to record the song with him. 'Thinking about the lyrics, I was like, 'Man, I think Jelly Roll would resonate with the story of this song.' I've been so inspired by his story, the things he's overcome. I remember seeing him sing 'Believe' with Brooks & Dunn [at the 2024 CMA Awards], and I just bawled my eyes out. It gave me all the faith to reach out. The craziest part of that is he had already heard the song on TikTok and loved it.
'We hopped on the phone, and we didn't talk music for the first hour. We just instantly became like brothers and talked about life, parenting, touring, family. It was a real friendship off the bat. There's a reason why he is on top of the world right now, and it's not just because his songs are amazing — it's because he's amazing,' Lake added.

Jelly Roll on His 200-Lb Weight Loss: ‘I Did This Publicly for a Reason'
Jason DeFord, also known as Jelly Roll, has inspired fans with his genre-bending music across country, rap and rock. His songs, like Amen, carry a message of strength in vulnerability. Recently, the musician took his knack for inspiring people out of the studio and into the locker room. In a Tennessee Titans X video posted on August 6, Jelly Roll opens up about his impressive 200-pound weight loss to the NFL's Tennessee Titans team. 'My name is Jason 'Jelly Roll' DeFord. I grew up right here in Nashville, Tennesse. I'm super proud of that,' he said. In his speech, the singer talked about the importance of community, his weight loss and his future health goals, which he joked could land him a spot on the Titans' roster. 'I lost 200 pounds,' Jelly Roll said. 'I told coach I'm getting a contract if I lose another 50.' We're taking a look at Jelly Roll's journey, including the strategies he used, why he decided not to take Ozempic and how he wants to celebrate when he reaches his weight-loss goal. Jelly Roll is down 200 pounds In an April interview on Pat McAfee's show Big Night AHT, DeFord shared how much weight he'd lost so far and how spending time with his wife was keeping him motivated to lose the rest. 'I started at 540 pounds, I'm 357 pounds this morning, baby," said the singer, who's since lost even more weight.. 'I'm going to lose another 100 pounds and go skydiving with my wife in Sweden, baby!' Pursuing his weight loss around a specific goal is an effective strategy, says Meghan Garcia-Webb, MD, a triple board-certified physician in internal medicine, lifestyle medicine and obesity medicine. 'Setting an activity-based goal can help keep the focus on why someone is losing weight,' says Dr. Garcia-Webb. 'Many people get very tied to being a specific number on the scale, but it's important to remember what that number actually means. What can someone do now that they couldn't do at a previous weight? How will they feel during their day to day activities?' Why Jelly Roll didn't use Ozempic to lose weight While many celebs have turned to GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Jelly Roll was worried about potential side effects. In a December 2024 episode of the Dumb Blonde Podcast hosted by his wife Alyssa DeFord, also known as Bunnie XO, he said 'We're not against Ozempic or any of that stuff. Every doctor I've talked to is for it. They said it helps. I just was afraid of it.' His hesitation came down to one thing: his voice. 'As a singer, few things scare me more than acid reflux,' Jelly Roll said. 'Like, you'll watch me get up out of a bed, I'll burp and wake up panicked and go take something for it. You know? Because that stuff will just rip the vocal cords.' His worries are not unfounded. 'Acid reflux can be a big concern for people on GLP-1 medications,' Dr. Garcia-Webb says. 'When movement of food is slowed through the stomach, it means there is also more of a chance for food and stomach acid to escape back up the esophagus. For singers, acid reflux can be particularly damaging for the vocal cords.' Jelly Roll struggled with weight loss for years In a 2018 Instagram post, Jelly Roll shared that his struggle with weight began in childhood. 'I've been obese since I was a small child," he said.. 'All I've ever known was being fat, and I'm f--king miserable. I wanna skydive, bungee jump, ride a bull, parasail, ride roller coasters, I want to LIVE a normal life and have a normal relationship with food. I fight addictions and alcoholism everyday.' The singer isn't alone in his struggles. 'When people have had a lifelong struggle with food, it can be like fighting with one arm tied behind their back,' says Dr. Garcia-Webb. 'They just don't have the perspective of what a healthy relationship with food has ever looked like. That's not to say that it's impossible, though.' According to Prevention, Jelly Roll shared he was kicking off his weight loss journey in December 2022. 'I did this publicly for a reason,' he said. 'I wanna be honest about my struggles with it with people. I wore it for so long. I think that people that become as big as I became, when they lose the weight, they're kind of ashamed. They're so ashamed that they go hide and lose the weight, and then they come back out and they don't really know how to interact with the world looking different or feeling different.' The keys to Jelly Roll's weight loss success In May 2024, Jelly Roll competed in the 2 Bears 5K in Los Angeles. Leading up to the race, Jelly Roll told People 'I'm doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I'm doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I'm eating healthy right now." While we know the impact of cardio like running on weight loss, you may be wondering if cold plunges and saunas can also help. 'There is a small body of research to suggest that cold plunges can help with bodily inflammation, stress, immunity, sleep quality and quality of life,' says Dr. Garcia-Webb. 'There is also some evidence showing that sauna use may boost the effects of other healthy lifestyle changes. For my patients, as long as they are being safe about these activities, in general I think they will only help with their health goals.' He changed his relationship with food too While Jelly Roll now says healthy eating has been key for him, in a November 2024 interview with People, he admitted he previously struggled with overeating. 'The battle was with the food addiction, changing the way I've looked at food for the last 39 years,' he told People. 'I've never had a healthy relationship with food, so that was the hard part. But once you get into that discipline and commitment, it's like an avalanche. Once that little snowball started rolling, it was on its way.' If you're wondering what kind of foods have helped Jelly Roll in his weight loss, an April interview with Jimmy Kimmel revealed the answer. "I've been thinking of ways to make it sound cool, but I can't," he joked.. "I'm eating a lot of protein, vegetables and walking. That's what I'm doing." Keep scrolling for more health stories! Demi Lovato Explains Why Jonas Brothers Reunion Was ‘Healing': ‘We've Been Through So Much Together'
Demi Lovato wouldn't change a thing about her recent reunion with the Jonas Brothers. In an episode of Chicks in the Office posted Tuesday (Aug. 12) — two days after the pop star made a cameo at the Jo Bros' kickoff 20th anniversary tour concert in New Jersey — Lovato opened up about how 'healing' it was to perform Camp Rock hits 'This Is Me' and 'Wouldn't Change a Thing' with former costars Joe, Nick and Kevin for the first time in years. 'It was so fun,' they raved. 'Seeing everyone and the reactions and everything just filled my soul with warmth and love.' More from Billboard Exes Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas Team Up For 'Camp Rock' Classics at Kick Off of Jonas Brothers 20th Anniversary Tour Demi Lovato Makes 'Fast' Return to Pop Music With New Single: Stream It Now Joe Jonas Seemingly Reveals Secret 'Camp Rock 3' Plans to Avoid Eating a Spicy Wing: 'Sorry, Disney!' 'It was so healing for me, too,' Lovato continued. 'We've been through so much together, all of us, the Jonas Brothers and I. It was really, really great to spend time with them.' The vocalist also revealed that the plan to reunite with the pop-rock trio only came together a few days before they took the stage at MetLife Stadium. 'Joe just asked me last week,' she recalled. 'Like, 'Hey, what are you doing next week? You've been a huge part of our journey … This show is really important to us and we would love to have you there.'' Backstage at the concert, Lovato says Joe, Nick and Kevin spent a lot of time 'getting to know my husband' –Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes, whom the singer married in May — which was 'really meaningful to me.' 'I loved it — every second of it was so great,' the singer added. The Disney Channel reunion comes as both the Jo Bros and Lovato are launching new musical eras, with the former releasing new album Greetings From Your Hometown on Friday (Aug. 8) and the latter dropping single 'Fast' a week before that. While gearing up to release new pop music, the Sonny With a Chance alum has been revisiting some of her most iconic moments and memes from years past, from revisiting the frozen yogurt shop Lovato once put on blast to recreating 'Disney knees' at Disneyland. On that note, Lovato says there was no hesitating after the brothers sent out an invitation to perform at MetLife. 'It was an instant, 'Let's do this,'' they said on the podcast. 'In this new era of mine, too, I'm throwing it back to the memes, and some of the things I've been posting have been really nostalgic. This just fit in with everything I've been doing, and on top of that, it's such a meaningful song for me. 'This Is Me' was the first big song I've ever had. It was just so full circle.' A Jurassic Park sequel is one of the Netflix sci-fi movies you need to watch (August 2025)
Netflix movies have been setting viewership records this summer. KPop Demon Hunters is now the streamer's most popular animated film ever. Plus, Golden, one of the film's singles, is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, Happy Gilmore 2 generated the biggest U.S. opening weekend for a Netflix film with 46.7 million views. Aside from the in-demand movies, Netflix offers an eclectic selection of entertaining movies, especially in the sci-fi genre. One of our top picks this month is The Lost World, the underrated sequel to Jurassic Park. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video. Weird Science (1985) John Hughes penned three scripts in 1985: National Lampoon's European Vacation, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science. The latter two, which he directed, fall under Hughes' memorable coming-of-age movies in the '80s. The link between the two films is Anthony Michael Hall, who stars in both. In Weird Science, Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith play Gary and Wyatt, two nerdy teenagers who want to be popular. One night, the duo creates the perfect woman on Wyatt's computer. After a magical power surge, the boys' creation comes to life as Lisa (Kelly LeBrock), a beautiful superhuman who serves Gary and Wyatt. With Lisa by their side, the teens gain the confidence they need to throw a party in hopes of winning over their high school crushes. Despite being inferior to The Breakfast Club, Weird Science is a funny and charming version of a Frankenstein story. Stream Weird Science on Netflix. Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) From the late '90s through 2008, Brendan Fraser was a legitimate action star thanks to The Mummy franchise. One month before The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was released in August 2008, Fraser headlined Journey to the Center of the Earth, an updated adaptation of Jules Verne's 1864 novel of the same name. Professor Trevor Anderson (Fraser) embarks on an expedition to Iceland with his 13-year-old nephew, Sean (Josh Hutcherson), to search for his missing brother. With the help of an Icelandic guide (Anita Briem), Trevor discovers Verne's novel is a legitimate map to the center of the Earth. Although they reach the Earth's center, the trio realizes they must escape or face the same tragic fate as Trevor's brother. Fraser's stoicism and comedic timing stand out in this sci-fi adventure film that kids will love. Stream Journey to the Center of the Earth on Netflix. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) What more can be said about Jurassic Park? The movie remains a landmark achievement in sci-fi filmmaking. The sequel was never going to reach the heights of the original. However, The Lost World: Jurassic Park deserves more credit for being an exciting blockbuster. Four years after the events in Jurassic Park, the greedy capitalist, Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard), becomes the new CEO of InGen. Feeling like there's a market for dinosaurs, Ludlow sends a group of mercenaries to Isla Sorna, aka Site B, to save the remaining dinosaurs in hopes of opening Jurassic Park in California. Learning about InGen's new plans, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) recruits Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and a small team to disrupt Ludlow's mission. Even with inferior characters, Steven Spielberg's sequel still soars when the movie features numerous battles between man and dinosaur. Those pesky raptors remain as terrifying as ever. Stream The Lost World: Jurassic Park on Netflix. Lost in Starlight (2025) South Korean filmmaker Han Ji-won successfully helmed a sci-fi anime romance made for adults in Lost in Starlight. Set in 2050, Lost in Starlight explores the budding relationship between Nan-young (Kim Tae-ri) and Jay (Hong Kyung). Nan-young is an astronaut who dreams of leading an expedition to Mars. Jay is a musician and handyman. After Jay agrees to fix Nan-young's record player, the two begin spending more time together. What starts as a worker-client relationship eventually transforms into a loving partnership. For the first time in her life, Nan-young might have something to live for other than a life in space. Lost in Starlight puts some of your favorite adult dramas to shame because of its moving depiction of love and affection. Stream Lost in Starlight on Netflix. Sound & Fury (2019) Sturgill Simpson is no ordinary country singer. The Grammy-winning artist is more of an outlaw musician, like Johnny Cash, than a traditional country singer, like Garth Brooks. Simpson is fearless in his pursuit of new sounds, experimenting with different genres along the way. In 2019, Simpson released his fourth album, Sound & Fury, accompanied by a dystopian Netflix anime movie of the same name. Set to the songs on the album, Sound & Fury follows an enigmatic driver who battles several deadly opponents in a post-apocalyptic world. Think of Sound & Fury as Mad Max mixed with anime. The result is an impressively unique visual album that could stand alone as a triumphant anime film. Stream Sound & Fury on Netflix.
