Shaquille O'Neal Opposes Giannis Antetokounmpo's Potential Trade Request; Claims He Should Recruit Superstars Instead
Shaquille O'Neal Opposes Giannis Antetokounmpo's Potential Trade Request; Claims He Should Recruit Superstars Instead originally appeared on Fadeaway World.
The Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated from the first round of the NBA Playoffs for the third time in a row after they lost to the Pacers in five games. Following this exit, ESPN published a report claiming Giannis Antetokounmpo, for the first time in his career, is open to potentially considering leaving Milwaukee and requesting a trade from the Bucks.

This made the two-time MVP one of the biggest names to watch out for in the trade market once the offseason begins. Shaquille O'Neal spoke to Yahoo Sports about this potential trade move. He gave his advice to the Greek superstar about embracing the small market team because a small market is an outdated concept in the NBA, and social media has made every team a potentially big market for the players.
'I would tell him that, probably, throwing in his face in a bigger market doesn't matter. Social media is the market now. Giannis has made a name for himself on social media. You got to LA, and now 50% of your contract goes to taxes, more pressure, and more stress. Being that he's in control of that ship, he should go upstairs and be like, 'I want to see all the free agents, I want all the phone numbers, I'll talk to them.' He should bring people to him."
O'Neal feels Antetokounmpo should use his position on the team to demand more from the front office and become actively involved in recruiting talent to the team. O'Neal has had personal experience with moving from a small-market team to a big-market team when he moved from the Orlando Magic to the LA Lakers. However, he claims that times were different back in his day and that Antetokounmpo should not make himself go through that process.
"You know, when I was coming up, it was a small market, it's too small, you probably need to go to a big market, I took the pain through that. But now every market is the same. Nobody cares what city you're in anymore, this ain't the 90s.'
Where Giannis Antetokounmpo May End Up: Rumors And Best Fit
According to immediate predictions from NBA Insider Brian Windhorst after ESPN reports on Antetokounmpo's potential request, the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs are in the best positions to make a move for Antetokounmpo. Considering that the main reason why Giannis is expected to leave is a lack of success, he is predicted to immediately join a team that becomes a title contender.

The San Antonio Spurs have the highly rated Victor Wembanyama and Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle alongside veteran talent of De'Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell. They will immediately become title contenders if they find a way to retain this core and trade for Antetokounmpo.
The Houston Rockets were the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference due to top-tier talents like Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jalen Green. That, combined with Ime Udoka's coaching, makes the Rockets a viable destination for Antetokounmpo. The Rockets have a lot of draft assets and young talent to potentially sign off on a trade without giving away this young core.
Two team names that also came up in this discussion were the Warriors and the Knicks, simply because they are big markets. Considering that neither of these teams has enticing draft assets or young talent for the Bucks to give away their franchise player, it is highly unlikely that Antetokounmpo lands in either of these teams. In the most recent rumors, Toronto Star's NBA Insider Doug Smith claimed Antetokounmpo has interest in joining the Raptors.
It will be interesting to see where Antetokounmpo lands if he requests a trade or if he listens to O'Neal, stays in Milwaukee, and fixes things internally in the franchise.

Caitlin Clark's Fever Teammate Named WNBA Breakout Candidate
Caitlin Clark's Fever Teammate Named WNBA Breakout Candidate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever earned praise for having the best group of young players in the WNBA, but it's more than just mega-star Caitlin Clark leading the way. Advertisement ESPN's Neil Paine ranked the young core -- players in their age-25 season or under -- for all WNBA teams and put the Fever at the top of the list. While Paine noted that Clark is the team's brightest star, he also predicted that guard Lexie Hull has been showing steady improvement and could be headed to a breakout season. "Don't sleep on Hull, either; the fourth-year guard out of Stanford has improved each year of her WNBA career and is tracking for a breakout performance," Paine wrote. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) talks to guard Lexie Hull (10).© Brett Davis-Imagn Images Paine added that Clark and Aliyah Boston, the last two WNBA Rookie of the Year award winners, have already found out how to mesh in the Fever's offense. He wrote that Clark serves "the WNBA's ultimate heliocentric perimeter creator and initiator, and Boston scoring inside the arc with high volume and efficiency." Advertisement "When healthy (and both have been extremely durable throughout college and the pros, up until Clark's recent injury), no team has a dynamic duo this good and this young," Paine wrote. But Hull could continue to carve out a big role as well, as she has nearly doubled her previous career-high with 10.7 points per game. She is adding 4.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Blockbuster 3-Team NBA Trade Idea Sends Celtics' Jrue Holiday to Mavericks
Blockbuster 3-Team NBA Trade Idea Sends Celtics' Jrue Holiday to Mavericks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Mavericks need to acquire a point guard this offseason since Kyrie Irving will miss a chunk of next season recovering from his left ACL tear. Advertisement With that said, Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed a three-team trade idea between the Mavericks, Celtics and Brooklyn Nets that sends Jrue Holiday from Boston to Dallas. According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Mavericks are interested in acquiring Holiday, who will make $32.4 million next season. The Celtics may break up their core this offseason since they will have the most expensive roster in the NBA next season and Jayson Tatum may not play at all in 2025-26 due to his right Achilles tendon tear. Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images A two-time NBA champion, Holiday averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the 2024-25 regular season and 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the 2025 playoffs in seven games against the Orlando Magic and New York Knicks. Advertisement "Holiday is a capable starting point guard," Pincus wrote. "He's not as dynamic as Irving offensively, but he is among the best defenders of his generation. Holiday is also one of the most respected people in the league (winning both the NBA's sportsman and teammate of the year awards this season)." Holiday and Mavericks big man Anthony Davis were teammates on the New Orleans Pelicans. The two All-Stars appeared in 310 games together. Holiday has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics. The UCLA product has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists. The Mavericks missed the playoffs this year after making the NBA Finals last year. They shockingly traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Blockbuster Mavericks Trade Idea Pairs Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving With $220 Million All-Star
Blockbuster Mavericks Trade Idea Pairs Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving With $220 Million All-Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. 2025 has been a wild year for the Dallas Mavericks so far. General manager Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, Kyrie Irving tore his left ACL and the franchise won the NBA Draft Lottery. Advertisement The Mavericks are widely expected to draft Duke's Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick in this year's draft. If Dallas selects Flagg, the youngster will join Irving, Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson. But what if Harrison wants to trade the No. 1 pick for a win-now player? Nothing can be ruled out. After all, Harrison shocked the sports world in February by trading Doncic. If Harrison wants to trade the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Andre Snellings of ESPN proposed that the Mavericks make a deal with the Phoenix Suns. Dallas Mavericks stars Kyrie Irving and Anthony DavisCredit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Snellings, an NBA insider for ESPN, proposed the following trade idea between Dallas and Phoenix: Advertisement Dallas Mavericks get: Devin Booker, 2025 first-rounder (No. 29), 2028 first-rounder (least favorable of own, Knicks and Wizards), 2029 first-round pick swap (least favorable of Cavs, Timberwolves and Jazz) Phoenix Suns get: 2025 No. 1 pick, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall and Caleb Martin This trade idea would pair Davis and Irving with Booker, who signed a four-year, $220 million extension with the Suns in 2022. Booker will make $53.1 million next season. Davis and Booker were teammates on Team USA last summer. The two stars helped the United States win the gold medal. A four-time All-Star, Booker appeared in 75 games for the Suns this season. He averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists while shooting 46.1% from the field, 33.2% from 3 and 89.4% from the foul line. Advertisement The 28-year-old Booker has career averages of 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He scored 70 points against the Boston Celtics during the 2016-17 season.
