Stephen Curry likely out of Game 2 against Timberwolves after injury, says Steve Kerr
The Golden State Warriors opened their second-round playoff series with a confident 99-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night—but the win came with a major scare as Stephen Curry left the game early with a left hamstring injury.
The two-time MVP and face of the franchise exited in the second quarter after scoring 13 points in just 13 minutes. Curry was seen clutching his hamstring and heading straight to the locker room, casting a shadow over what had been a promising start for the Warriors.
Speaking after the game, head coach Steve Kerr offered a cautious update.
'Just day-to-day. We'll get an MRI tomorrow,' Kerr said. 'I talked to him at halftime—he's obviously crushed. But the guys picked him up and played a great game.'

Kerr suggested the team is already preparing for Game 2 without their star guard.
'We're definitely game-planning for him not to be available on Thursday,' he admitted. 'With a hamstring, it's hard to imagine he'd play.'
Curry's potential absence is a significant blow for the Warriors, who have leaned heavily on his leadership and scoring throughout the playoffs. He averaged 24 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in the first round and remains the team's emotional core.
Despite losing Curry midgame, the Warriors responded with grit and depth. Draymond Green took the reins, delivering 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
Buddy Hield led all scorers with 24 points and nailed a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter to snuff out a Timberwolves comeback attempt. Jimmy Butler added 20 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists in a well-rounded, veteran performance.
Game 2 is set for May 8. While the Warriors have proven they can survive a night without Curry, the outcome of the MRI could define the rest of their postseason.

The star pitcher exited the game abruptly in the fifth inning, sparking concern among teammates and fans. Burnes, who was on the mound against the Washington Nationals, reported discomfort after delivering a 92 MPH cutter that resulted in a single. Corbin Burnes just left his start for Arizona after an apparent arm injury. His cutter velocity had dipped two to three ticks before that. — Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) June 1, 2025 His visible frustration and early departure prompted manager Torey Lovullo to label the injury as 'discomfort,' while acknowledging his worries remain significant. 'We're hopeful, but cautious,' Lovullo said, confirming Burnes will undergo an MRI on Monday to evaluate the injury's severity. MUST LISTEN! Torey Lovullo and Corbin Burnes postgame comments on Burnes' elbow injury... right elbow discomfort. He'll stay behind and get an MRI. @12SportsAZ — Cameron Cox (@CamCox12) June 2, 2025 Burnes himself described the issue as a sudden tightening that affected his velocity and pitch movement. 'It just kind of really started to get tight on me,' he said. 'We got to the point where the tightness was too much, so waved [the trainer] out and didn't feel like we needed to push any farther.' The looming possibility of Tommy John surgery—a common yet serious procedure for pitchers with elbow injuries—casts a shadow over Burnes' season and the Diamondbacks' pitching plans. Losing their leading starter would be a significant setback as the team navigates the competitive MLB landscape. As the Diamondbacks await MRI results, the team and fans brace for news that will shape the remainder of Burnes' season and the club's prospects. Timberwolves vs Warriors 117-110: Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle clutch to give Minnesota 3-1 lead
The Minnesota Timberwolves' explosive duo Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle combined for 61 points and 10 three-pointers to power a 117-110 win over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, seizing a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals. With Stephen Curry still sidelined, Golden State once again struggled to find answers on either end of the floor. Despite Steve Kerr's repeated emphasis on defence, the Warriors were overwhelmed by the Timberwolves' relentless pace and perimeter shooting. Edwards dropped 30 points, including a flurry of 11 during a stunning 17-0 run in the third quarter that turned the tide of the game. He knocked down six 3-pointers, none more impactful than back-to-back daggers that capped Minnesota's surge. The Timberwolves hit 16-of-34 from beyond the arc on the night. Randle, fresh off a Game 3 triple-double, added 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting and torched Golden State's interior defence with powerful drives and clutch shot-making. He had 19 points by halftime, keeping the Wolves afloat before Edwards turned up the heat. 'Every time we try to close the gap, one of them makes a shot,' Warriors forward Draymond Green said postgame. Golden State led 60-58 at the break, but Edwards' buzzer-beating three shifted momentum Minnesota's way. By the end of the third quarter, the Wolves had established control, and the Chase Center crowd could feel the pressure. Game 5 heads to Minneapolis on Wednesday, where the Timberwolves will look to close out the series and punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals. Unless the Warriors find a way to contain Minnesota's dynamic duo — and fast — this could be the end of the line.
