Delhi CM orders immediate renovation of hostel at MAMC, speedy construction of new facilities for students, doctors
This comes after L-G VK Saxena and the Chief Minister last Thursday directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to immediately prepare a comprehensive plan to accommodate at least 4,000 students and doctors after observing that a hostel meant for 1,200 students has 3,200 students living at the hostel.
On Monday, Gupta held discussions on hostel renovation, campus safety, lighting, encroachment, and student welfare issues. CM ordered for LED street lighting to be installed across the campus, with 24×7 CCTV surveillance and heightened security presence.
She said that a special drive will be launched to remove illegal encroachments within the college campus.
During the meeting, students highlighted the poor condition of hostel walls and ceilings, which pose a risk to life and safety. The lack of adequate lighting during night hours also gives a sense of insecurity on the campus, they said.
Female students raised concerns over the shortage of security guards, insufficient facilities, and an unsafe environment. Encroachments within the campus were also reported as a daily obstacle for students.
Gupta stated that the seven hostels built between 1966 and 1990 were designed for only 1,200 students, while around 3,200 students are currently residing there in extremely cramped and substandard conditions with eight beds to a room, shared cupboards, and no provision for basic amenities like study tables.
The Chief Minister directed officials to submit progress reports every 15 days to ensure regular monitoring and accountability.
She also accused the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of negligence. 'I am shocked at the irresponsibility of the previous educated governments. It's appalling to see the poor state of such a prestigious institution like Maulana Azad Medical College and the condition of the students studying here,' she said.

The Chhattisgarh government will soon launch a new cattle protection scheme called Gaudham Yojana with a 'special focus on curbing illegal trafficking and ensuring safety of stray cattle'. It will shelter cows seized by police during anti-smuggling operations, said a government statement. 'The Livestock Development Department has designed this scheme keeping in mind the safety of cattle seized during illegal transportation or smuggling, as well as stray cattle. The state already has a ban on illegal trafficking and transportation of animals… Each Gaudham will be able to house a maximum of 200 cattle, depending on capacity,' stated the release. Court concern In the past one year, the Chhattisgarh High Court has more than once expressed concerns on stray cattle that puts the lives of both the animals as well as humans at risk on Chhattisgarh roads and highways. The new scheme bundles provisions such as fixed monthly honorarium of ₹10,916 for cowherds and ₹13,126 for cattle attendants. Additionally, a fixed daily allowance will be provided for cattle fodder. Outstanding cattle shelters will receive daily per-animal payments – ₹10 in the first year, ₹20 in the second year, ₹30 in the third year, and ₹35 in the fourth year. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the Gaudham Yojana will ensure livestock safety in the State while providing a regular source of income to a large number of cowherds and cattle attendants. The new scheme effectively replaces the now defunct Gauthan Yojana, launched by the previous Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government three years ago, under which the honorariums were decided by committees operating the cattle shelters.

Give 2 months' notice before firing Mohalla Clinic staff, HC tells govt.
The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to provide two months' notice to staff members of Mohalla Clinics in case it proposes to terminate their services before March 31 next year. The court's order came while dealing with a petition filed by staff members of Mohalla Clinics hired on a contractual basis by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The petitioners, employed as pharmacists, assistants, and multitask workers, had sought directions against their termination and replacement with other contractual employees. The BJP government has decided to roll out a network of Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (U-AAMs) and subsume Mohalla Clinics, a flagship programme of the previous AAP government. The court's August 6 order disposed of the petition with the direction that 'in the event the respondents [Delhi government] propose to terminate the petitioners' engagement before March 31, 2026, on the ground that new manpower has been engaged..., they are directed to give two weeks' notice to the concerned... (staff)'. The staff members had submitted that some of them have been telephonically instructed not to report for duty. The counsel for the Delhi government had submitted that no decision has been taken by the authorities to dispense with the services of any employees of Mohalla Clinics. As of August 2023, 533 Mohalla Clinics were operational in Delhi, providing healthcare services to the city's residents. However, at least seven Mohalla Clinics have already been converted into U-AAMs under the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme. Following a protest on May 17 by the staff of Mohalla Clinics, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had given them an assurance that existing paramedical and support staff would be adjusted within U-AAMs.

The state finance department has approved a draft of the scheme and sent it to district collectors across the state, said erstwhile Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government had launched the scheme under which it started buying cow dung from farmers through more than 10,000 Gothan centres. However, after BJP came to power, the purchase of cow dung was stopped. With increasing accidents involving stray cattle on the roads and highways, state government has now prepared a revamped plan under the scheme. Just last week, more than 90 cows died in three separate Gaudham centres under the renamed scheme will be used to keep the stray cattle from roaming on the streets. The government will not buy cow dung and instead provide monetary support to cattle grazers. It will provide a monthly honorarium to cattle grazers and a daily fodder budget for the cattle at the centres. The cattle grazers will receive ₹10,916 each per month while for every animal the initial budget has been kept as ₹10 per day. In the first phase, Gaudham centres will be set up in rural areas alongside the National Highway (NH)-6 .
