iPhone 17 series is tipped to get a new colour variant and Apple seems to be deciding which one of the two will be officially launched.
iPhone 17 series launch is getting closer and after the less than exciting WWDC 2025 earlier this month, all focus shifts to the big event in September. The new iPhone 17 base model could be lining up alongside the iPhone 17 Air moniker, with some rumours suggesting that Apple will ditch the Plus model from here on. However, new leaks have come out this week which claims Apple could brighten up the iPhone lineup with some new colours offered with the base model.
Apple is likely to bring the iPhone 17 in new purple and green shades this year. These new options are expected to be limited to the regular variants while the Pro models continue to feature in premium grey, gold and blue-like colours.
The details from tipster Majin Bu suggests Apple could look at either of these new shades for the iPhone 17 model and could finally go with purple as the new option for buyers this year. The tipster has even shared the images of the iPhone 17 model which looks similar to the 16 series, with the vertical camera setup at the back.
iPhone 17 series is expected to get some major display upgrades, especially the non-Pro variants this year. However, reports state that Apple could offer 120Hz refresh rate for the OLED display and drop the ProMotion aspect of the panel for its regular iPhone 17 and 17 Plus as well as the 17 Air models.
iPhone 17 Air is the other big interest among readers these days, purely because of its sleek design and the cutbacks because of it. Apple is tipped to adopt the silicone carbon tech for its battery on this model which should ease some concerns about its standby time. Samsung has shown us that a slim phone does not have to suffer with the right management in place and Apple should also be able to make that happen for the Air variant.

Samsung wins interim licence in UK patent fight with ZTE

LONDON: Samsung Electronics on Wednesday won a ruling from London's High Court in its attempt to get an interim licence to use ZTE 's patents, in the English leg of the firms' global licensing dispute over mobile phone patents . English courts have recently permitted parties to pursue short-term patent licences pending trial, including in Amazon's dispute with Nokia and Lenovo's battle with Ericsson, before both ultimately settled. Wednesday's ruling, though, is the first time in England that a court of first instance - the initial court where a case is heard - has made such an interim licence declaration. Disputes over the fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms of a patent licence have frequently led to global legal battles in the telecom industry. English courts can set global FRAND terms, following a landmark 2020 UK Supreme Court ruling, as can courts in China. Samsung sued ZTE in London in December 2024 seeking a determination of FRAND terms, with ZTE bringing parallel lawsuits against Samsung in China, Germany and Brazil. In London, Samsung sought a declaration that a willing licensor in ZTE's position would agree to an interim licence until FRAND terms were decided by the court. Both Samsung and ZTE had made competing offers for an interim licence, with ZTE's licence requiring FRAND terms to be those determined by a court in China. London's High Court ruled in Samsung's favour on Wednesday, with Judge James Mellor saying that "ZTE have acted in bad faith with their wave of unnecessary injunctive proceedings". The judge added that "ZTE's terms are designed to render this action (in London) pointless, so that Samsung effectively has to abandon it" in favour of accepting the outcome of ZTE's lawsuit in Chongqing in southwestern China. Samsung and ZTE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
