The IIT-BHU on Wednesday organised an online open house session for candidates, who qualified JEE (Advanced) 2025 examination. Chairing the session, IIT-BHU director Prof Amit Patra addressed a wide range of queries from prospective students and parents, including admission procedures, academic flexibility, hostel and mess facilities, security measures, and the overall student experience at IIT (BHU)

Govt nod awaited to hold 1st Happiness Survey in MP
Bhopal: After being on hold for eight years, the happiness department sought the nod of the state govt to carry out the happiness survey. Eight years ago, in May 2017, the govt decided to measure the well-being of the people in the state by conducting a happiness survey. It was to be conducted by the happiness department, the first such department in the country. The govt signed an MoU with IIT-Kharagpur for the development of a happiness index to measure the well-being of people. The questionnaire for the survey was ready, but it was deferred for different reasons, including assembly and general elections. The happiness department said it is ready, and once the nod of the govt comes, the process to carry out the survey would be conducted. Over 80 experts from different parts of the globe brainstormed in Bhopal, but the survey could not take off. Officials of the happiness department informed that they can conduct the survey in two months' time after getting the go-ahead from the govt. A short training would be held for surveyors, and they would be sent to the district to carry out the survey. The govt and experts of IIT-Kharagpur had shortlisted 30 questions, which would be asked to people during the happiness survey. Why open schooling in demand in Karnataka now? Extra time to prepare for entrance exams
Bengaluru: Even while integrated coaching has become the norm to crack entrance exams, coaching centres in the city have identified a growing trend — students enrolling in National Institute of Open Schooling to focus exclusively on entrance tests. Many students are opting for home-school in classes 11 and 12 and write board exams through NIOS to spend more time preparing for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination (NEET), both national-level tests that hold the key to the country's best professional colleges. "We have an increased demand from parents to open NIOS study centre on campus, where we can train students for the boards on weekends and coach them for entrance exams during weekdays. We have, therefore, decided to apply for an NIOS licence for the next year owing to the high demand," said Sridhar G, founder of Ace Creative Learning Pvt Ltd which runs Deeksha STEM schools. "If you look at most of the exams now — NEET, for example — 60% of the people writing it are repeaters, and a large majority who get admission into medical colleges are repeaters. For those who are writing the exam for the first time along with the boards, the biggest handicap is that they do not have enough time to study to compete with others. So, NIOS gives you the flexibility to spend more time on competitive exams since there is no need to spend mandatory hours in school," he added. Mahesh Yadav, zonal head, South of Allen Career Institute Pvt Ltd, said: "We have a handful of students now. The trend has started growing in the city and will become the norm in the next two to three years. We are encouraging students, who are motivated to get good ranks, to take up NIOS. Now, they spend the morning hours in school and evenings in coaching, leaving very little time for self-study." A mother, who is also a school teacher, has decided to home-school her son for two years as he wants to crack NEET. "Around 24 lakh students took the test last year. With CBSE or ICSE curriculum, it will be too much for him to focus on the competitive exam. Open schooling could be better as it would give him more free time to prepare for NEET. He will take up entrance coaching in the morning and evening and spend the rest of the time on self-study. He is self-disciplined and has a drive to crack the test," she said. Yet another attraction is the financial aspect. "We would also not be spending on school fees and could use the money for his higher education," she added. V Swaminathan, regional director, NIOS, said there have been success stories of NIOS students cracking entrance tests. "There are several students who are attending coaching classes and parallelly pursuing class 11 and 12. We have students cracking into top institutes like IITs. Recently, the Supreme Court also said NIOS students are eligible for appearing for entrance exams, reaffirming its credibility," he said. JoSAA Counselling 2025 Registration Ends Today: What's Next?
JoSAA Counselling 2025: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will close the registration and choice-filling process for JoSAA Counselling 2025 today, June 12, 2025, at 5 pm. Eligible candidates can complete the registration by visiting the official JoSAA portal. This marks the conclusion of the first step in the seat allocation process for admissions into premier engineering institutes across India. Who Can Apply? Candidates who have qualified in either JEE (Main) 2025 Session 2 or JEE (Advanced) 2025 are eligible to participate in the JoSAA counselling process. This centralised counselling mechanism facilitates the allotment of seats in prestigious institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). What Happens After the Counselling Registration Ends? The JoSAA counselling will proceed in six structured rounds. After registration and choice filling, candidates will be able to view mock seat allotments, which are provided to help them adjust preferences before final locking. Following this, the actual seat allotment rounds will begin. After each allotment round, candidates must either accept the offered seat, pay the required fees, and report for document verification, or participate in subsequent rounds. Required Documents At the time of admission, candidates will need to present the following documents: • Class 10 and 12 marksheets/certificates • JEE Main or Advanced admit card • Category or PwD certificate (if applicable) • Medical certificate • Bank account details for refunds or transfers • OCI/PIO card or passport (for applicable candidates) Partial Admission Fee Candidates will be required to pay a partial admission fee as part of the seat acceptance process.
