Political Secretary to Luyang Assemblyman Chan Loong Wei, issued a statement confirming that SE had successfully identified the root cause of the disruption, which was traced to a faulty underground line. 'The repair work to replace the cable was completed on the same day. 'We understand the inconvenience this has caused and I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the residents and shop owners in Foh Sang for their patience and understanding during this period,' he said in a statement on Friday. To minimise disruptions during the outage, SE had deployed two generator sets (gensets) to power the commercial area in Foh Sang, providing temporary relief to affected businesses. Chan also provided an update on SESB's long-term efforts to enhance power reliability in Luyang. 'The construction of the Luyang 33/11kV Main Distribution Substation (PPU), located near Dewan Foo Chow, is progressing on schedule and is expected to be completed by September. 'Once operational, this facility will play a key role in stabilising electricity supply throughout the Luyang area,' he said. In addition, Luyang is set to benefit from another major infrastructure upgrade — the upcoming 33/11kV PPU Lido substation near Bukit Kopungit. Chan emphasised that the project, also spearheaded through the initiatives of Luyang Assemblyman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, is expected to further strengthen the local power grid and improve supply resilience. 'The Luyang Assemblyman's Office, together with SE, remains committed to improving infrastructure to support our growing communities and businesses,' he said. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah gets AAA rating with a stable outlook

Published on: Thursday, August 21, 2025 Published on: Thu, Aug 21, 2025 Text Size: MARC Ratings said Sabah's economy is heavily influenced by the O&G and palm oil sectors, so swings in commodity prices affect its fiscal revenue. Kota Kinabalu: MARC Ratings has assigned Sabah an AAA sub-sovereign credit rating with a stable outlook under its sub-sovereign rating scale. The agency said the decision was supported by Sabah's solid fiscal position, driven by its significant natural resource income, strong fiscal reserves and robust institutional framework. Advertisement "The stable outlook reflects MARC Ratings' expectations that Sabah will sustain a sound fiscal position, supported by robust liquidity buffers, continued revenue generation from natural resource wealth and steady federal support for the State's development agenda. "Nonetheless, Sabah's credit profile remains vulnerable to global economic volatilities, which could weigh on commodity prices and temporarily affect the State's economic momentum," it said in a statement. The ratings agency noted that Sabah is among Malaysia's most resource-rich states, with agriculture and mining making up 36.5 per cent of its gross domestic product in 2024, the highest proportion nationwide. It added that the State is the country's largest crude palm oil producer, contributing 22.1 per cent of national output in 2024, and is also a key player in oil and gas (O&G) production. "Although palm oil-related products are the State's dominant exports, Sabah is actively pursuing downstream O&G development to expand its currently modest manufacturing base," it said. MARC Ratings said Sabah's economy is heavily influenced by the O&G and palm oil sectors, so swings in commodity prices affect its fiscal revenue. With energy prices likely to ease in 2025, revenue could come under pressure. However, Sabah is still expected to keep a healthy fiscal balance in the medium term, thanks to efforts to widen its tax base and diversify the economy, it added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
