No leads in two missing cases in Mamelodi
The search for two missing people from Mamelodi continues, as police have had no leads in either case.
Phillemon Duke Mahlangu (63) from Mamelodi East went missing in January, and Thabo Paulos Phasha (37) from Skierlik informal settlement went missing in June. The two cases are unrelated.
According to police spokesperson Constable Penelope Khulong, Mahlangu was last seen on January 14, wearing a brown hat and brown jacket.
Khulong said Mahlangu's son reported him missing, saying he was with his father in the Pretoria CBD on the day he went missing, as they had not seen each other in a long time.
'After picking him up, they travelled to Mamelodi East and spent the day together. When they parted ways, the victim requested the complainant to drop him off at Tshwane College. That was the last time he saw him,' said Khulong.
She added that she is pleading with the public to help find him, as his son has made attempts to look for him, but no trace has yet been found.
Thabo Paulos Phasha (37) from Skierlik informal settlement was last seen in Mamelodi East on June 3.
His mother reported him missing after receiving a call from her neighbour on June 7, indicating that Phasha had not been seen in three days.
Police are requesting anyone with information to contact Mamelodi East police on 012 815 7000, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit information through the MySAPS App.

Family of five, including three children, killed in Olievenhoutbosch shack fire

Family of five, including three children, killed in Olievenhoutbosch shack fire A devastating shack fire ripped through a home in Olievenhoutbosch Extension 25, early on Friday morning, killing a family of five — including three young children and a senior citizen — as flames engulfed their dwelling before firefighters could save them. This includes three children aged 9 to 16 and a senior citizen. The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Lindsay Zwelithini Mnguni said the incident happened on Friday morning. 'The incident was reported to our Emergency Communication Centre at about 05:04, and firefighting resources were immediately dispatched from Heuweloord Fire Station and Centurion Fire Station to the scene. 'These included two fire engines and a water tanker.' He said on arrival, the firefighters found out that the fire had already destroyed the four-roomed shack dwelling. 'Sadly, five family members, including a senior citizen, one adult and three minors, were fatally burned by the devastating fire. The firefighters continued to extinguish the fire as it was still smouldering completely.' Mnguni said various roleplayers, including their Fire Safety Section, Disaster Risk Management Section, the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services, South African Police Services, Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens and community leaders, were also on scene and worked together as they assisted with incident management. 'Tshwane Emergency Services Department urges communities to remain vigilant and be cautious during winter to prevent and eliminate incidents of this nature that can have a disastrous effect on families and the community.' To report any fire or rescue incident, members of the public are encouraged to call 107 toll-free or to call 012 358 6300/6400. He added that when reporting an emergency, please remain calm, speak clearly, know where you are to give the correct address, and give your correct contact number to allow the operator to phone you back should they need to do so. Community warned against surge in crime

The police in Sebokeng are appealing to all community members to take safety precautions during this season. This follows a noticeable increase in house robberies, kidnappings, and armed robberies. Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone is urging residents to remain alert at all times and to avoid sharing personal financial details or their daily movements in public. According to Kubone, doing so may put individuals at greater risk, as criminals often use this information to plan their attacks. According to the police, criminals are constantly changing their modus operandi. 'Recently, criminals have been targeting homes where cars are parked outside while people are gathering, households with pensioners expecting payouts, individuals awaiting Road Accident Fund payments, and families who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one. 'In these cases, victims are often forced to download banking apps, and funeral or insurance payouts are then fraudulently transferred to unknown accounts.' The police encourage anyone in danger to shout for help, blow a whistle if possible, and contact police in Sebokeng immediately on 016 466 2047, 082 498 9563, 112, 10111, 08600 10111, or via MySAPS App., national emergency lines, or the MySAPS mobile app. Kubone urges members of the community to stay cautious and work together with the police to help prevent crime during this challenging time.
