Hyundai Creta marks 10 years with 1.2 mn sales in India
has marked the tenth anniversary of its popular mid-size SUV, the Creta , with cumulative sales crossing 1.2 million units in the domestic market since its launch in July 2015.
The Creta has maintained its position as the one of the best selling mid-size SUV in India every calendar year since launch, and currently holds a market share of over 31 per cent in the segment. It was also India's best-selling SUV between January and June 2025, topping overall vehicle sales in three of those six months.
Sales of the model have more than doubled over the past decade—from 92,926 units in 2016 to 1,86,919 units in 2024. Sunroof-equipped variants now make up roughly 70 per cent of total Creta sales, reflecting shifting consumer preferences.
Hyundai has also noted a significant rise in first-time car buyers opting for the Creta , with their share rising from 12 per cent in 2020 to 29 per cent in 2024.
An upgrade to Creta
The Creta is offered in petrol, diesel, turbo-petrol and electric powertrain options, with both manual and automatic transmissions. Hyundai exports the made-in-India model to 13 countries, with more than 2.87 lakh units shipped abroad so far.
Over the years, Hyundai has introduced several feature upgrades and launched special editions such as the Knight and Adventure variants to appeal to a broader range of buyers. The brand has also repositioned the SUV over time—from the 'Perfect SUV' in 2015 to 'The Undisputed Ultimate SUV' in 2024.
To mark the 10-year milestone, Hyundai has announced a set of celebratory activities, including a user-generated content campaign titled 'Creta X Memories' and a 100-car legacy drive scheduled to begin from the company's Gurugram headquarters on July 26.

Hyundai Motor warns of bigger hit from US tariffs after Q2 profit fall
Hyundai Motor posted a decline in second-quarter operating profit on Thursday as U.S. tariffs on vehicles and parts started to weigh on its bottom line and warned of a bigger impact in the current quarter. Hyundai's results illustrate the stakes for South Korean officials, who are under pressure to come up with a trade deal after Washington and Tokyo reached an agreement this week that will cut tariffs on its Japanese rivals. The South Korean automaker said it was sticking to its annual profit target for now, but it will update the plan after the August 1 deadline for reciprocal tariffs to take effect. Hyundai, which together with affiliate Kia is the world's third-biggest automaking group by sales, booked operating profit of 3.6 trillion won ($2.64 billion) for the April-to-June period, down 16 per cent from 4.28 trillion won in the same period a year earlier. The result is compared to a 3.5 trillion won LSEG SmartEstimate drawn from 22 analysts. The South Korean automaker said U.S. tariffs cost the company 828 billion won ($606.37 million) in the second quarter, and the impact will be larger in the July to September period. Hyundai expected U.S. tariff rates on Korean autos to "go down a little" from the current 25 per cent, but it is hard to predict how much it would drop, said Hyundai Motor Chief Finance Officer Lee Seung-jo. South Korean companies have been on tenterhooks after Washington reached a deal with Japan this week that lowers tariffs on auto imports to 15 per cent and spares Tokyo from punishing new levies on other goods. South Korea's finance ministry said on Thursday that talks due to be held on Friday between top Seoul and Washington officials over tariffs have been rescheduled because of a scheduling conflict for U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The automaker's shares fell 2 per cent after the earnings announcement. "It seems crucial for Hyundai Motor to reassure investors on whether it has effective tools to navigate ongoing tariff-related uncertainty, or how it plans to contribute to broader South Korea-U.S. trade discussions," said Shin Yoon-chul, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities. "Yet, as with its first-quarter results, the company remained silent - a stance that is likely to leave foreign investors uneasy about investing in Hyundai." Vehicle pricing The earnings offer the first look at how the Korean automaker, which has gained market share and sales in the U.S. in recent years, is taking the impact of the tariffs in a lucrative market. Hyundai Motor generates over 40 per cent of its revenue in the U.S. market. Together with Kia, Hyundai Motor imports about two-thirds of its vehicles sold in the United States. Hyundai Motor front-loaded shipments to cushion the blow from the tariffs, but its U.S. inventory is drying up, analysts said. Hyundai Motor increased U.S. retail sales in the second quarter, rising by 10 per cent from a year earlier, as the automaker kept prices unchanged and absorbed higher costs. Hyundai said it will flexibly adjust U.S. vehicle prices based on market conditions and competitors rather than U.S. tariffs. The automaker also seeks to pursue alternative sourcing of parts, while closely reviewing the expansion of local vehicle production for the longer term. GM, Stellantis, and Tesla this week reported financial hits from the tariffs as automakers grapple with rising import and manufacturing costs from U.S. levies on not only vehicle imports, but also automotive parts, as well as steel and aluminum. While U.S. tariffs pose risks to its operations, the weaker South Korean currency helped cushion some of the blow from the tariffs, Hyundai said. Hyundai Motor said its revenue rose 7 per cent from a year earlier to 48.3 trillion won, versus the analysts' consensus of 47 trillion won.

Used luxury car sales jump 30% in tier 2 cities; 80% buys now digital
Used luxury car demand rose by over 30 per cent in cities like Jaipur, Coimbatore, and Kochi, showed data released by used-car platform Spinny. According to Spinny's April-June quarter report, Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes GLA were the top luxury models sold. Metro-based repeat buyers continued to lead overall luxury sales, but non-metro demand showed a faster rate of growth this quarter. Moreover,a significant portion of customers are now purchasing vehicles online. Spinny reported that 80 per cent of its car sales in Q2 were made through online bookings, compared to 77 per cent in Q1. However, 80 per cent of deliveries took place at Spinny hubs rather than through home drop-offs, indicating that while buyers are transacting digitally, many still prefer to inspect vehicles in person before final handover. First-time buyers comprised 70 per cent of total customers, down from 74 per cent in the previous quarter. The average buyer age increased from 32 to 34 years. This points to a marginal rise in more experienced, returning customers opting for upgrades. On the seller side, hatchbacks made up 55 per cent of the total inventory, led by Maruti Suzuki's WagonR, Baleno, and Swift. SUVs accounted for 21 per cent, with higher share in Chennai. Sedans contributed 18 per cent with Chandigarh leading in this segment. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai retained the top two brand positions. Tata Motors replaced Honda in third place. Petrol vehicles accounted for 82 per cent of all sales. Automatic transmissions formed 30 per cent of Q2 purchases, marginally up from Q1. Diesel saw a higher share in Bengaluru around 28 per cent while early interest in EVs and hybrids was observed in Pune and Bengaluru. Women accounted for 26 per cent of total buyers in Q2, down from 28 per cent in Q1. Chandigarh reported the highest female buyer share at over 30 per cent. Most women opted for automatic hatchbacks, and Spinny highlighted the role of financing schemes in supporting this segment. Around 58 per cent of customers chose loan financing, up slightly from Q1. Coimbatore recorded the highest loan adoption at over 65 per cent. Demand for extended warranty coverage also rose, with a 30 per cent attach rate for the Assured+ program by June. Cars under three years of age made up 25 per cent of all vehicles sold in June, rising from 18 per cent in April. The trend was linked to warranty-backed offerings in Spinny's portfolio. Spinny's data also showed that Bengaluru recorded the fastest overall market growth. Chandigarh had the highest share of women buyers, while Kochi led in home deliveries, with over 40 per cent of customers opting for doorstep handovers. Jaipur had the youngest average buyer age at 31 years. Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad continued to be the top markets by overall sales volume. Spinny expects demand to rise further during Onam and Diwali. The company forecasts increased reliance on financing, a steady rise in digital transactions, and more activity in the EV and hybrid segments. Spinny is a used car retail platform operating in 22 cities with 57 delivery hubs. It offers a mix of online and offline services, including 200-point vehicle inspections, return policies, and warranty plans.
