Templegate's Galway Plate runner-by-runner guide
Senecia 2
MAKES no sense. Highly tried last season and ran well in blinkers over C&D in November. Looks held on form this year and may prefer softer. Others preferred.
Zanahiyr 4
ZAN the man. Was a cracking third in this last year. Losing run adding up but could bounce back for Gordon Elliott.
Jesse Evans 4
GREAT Jesse. Goes well at Galway, ran well over hurdles last time and stays this far. Strong traveller with a turn of foot. Live contender despite fairly testing weight.
Western Fold 4
BEST Western. On a roll with two emphatic wins at staying trips; improving rapidly and jumps well. Ground and track no issue. Big player if coping with 11st10.
Amirite 3
RITE stuff. Probably doesn't win as many as he should but often runs well like when fourth in the Topham an Aintree. Comes here off a win and isn't ruled out.
Nurburgring 5
RING of fire. Won Galway Hurdle in 2024 and impressed on latest chase win. He likes this trip and looks capable of better. Not a big price but he has a big chance.
Buddy One 2
ONE to miss. Tough hurdler with top-level form, but not the same force over fences. Flat winner this month and stays well but needs career best.
Down Memory Lane 3
UP and Down. Novice who won well at Navan but has struggled a little. Still unexposed and trip suits and could do better on this drop in class.
Three Card Brag 3
CARD sharp. Didn't enjoy the Grand National last time but still early days over fences and has more to offer.
Chemical Energy 2
CHEMICAL reaction. Runner-up in National Hunt Chase in 2023 but hit and miss since. Looks on the downgrade now and hard to fancy on recent evidence.
Ashdale Bob 2
BOB not job. Capable on his day around this trip and Harrington runners always respected. Modest run last time and needs to improve on that.
Jazzy Matty 3
WELCOME Matty. Won the Grand Annual at Cheltenham and stays this trip well. Pulled up last time but could bounce back. Best form on decent ground. Not discounted.
Anyway 4
WAY can pay. Improving chaser who was second at the Cheltenham Festival and won well at Kilbeggan. Has a good profile and staying potential. High on the shortlist.
Common Practice 3
PRACTICE improving. Good novice win at Thurles in March over similar trip and has won well here before. One of many who are capable of better.
Thecompanysergeant 4
COMPANY profits. Good second in the Festival Plate on last spin over fences and solid run over hurdles latest. Only 2lb higher and from top yard. Contender.
Duffle Coat 2
GET me Coat. Comes here badly out of form and is struggling to finish a race. On the plus side, he was second in this last year so could bounce back now.
Shecouldbeanything 2
ANYTHING goes. Solid mare with graded chase form but only a fair run in the Irish Grand National last time out Needs to find more off current mark.
Zenta 2
ZEN won't master. Talented mare but poor jumper and flopped badly on past two outings. Needs the blinkers to wake her up again.
Adamantly Chosen 2
NOT Chosen. Has some quality and ran okay at Punchestown last time. Has come up short a few times in races like this. Pass despite Townend being up.
Sea Music 3
DEEP Sea. Won big race at Punchestown before dodgy jumping proved costly last time. Place claims if bouncing back.
Olympic Man 3
TOP Man. You never write off a Willie Mullins horse, especially off this sort of low weight and his best has come around this trip. Was poor at Sandown latest but could do better here.
Gaelic Arc 3
UPWARD Arc. Beaten in a photo last time at Killarney and has some fair handicap chase form. One of the better huge prices.
Templegate's Galway Plate tip and 1-2-3 prediction
NURBURGRING can motor to victory in the Galway Plate.
Joseph O'Brien's charge has a Galway Hurdle win on his CV and stays this trip well. He ran well at Cheltenham earlier this year and has more to come.
Western Fold arrives in great heart after dominant wins at Tipperary and Ballinrobe. He's improving fast and could be a Grade 1 horse in time.
Zanahiyr ran a cracker in this last year so a return to form would be no surprise.
Jesse Evans was impressive when winning a Tipperary Grade 3 hurdle last time and was a winner here over fences last season.
Others with form claims include Thecompanysargeant and Anyway.

United goalscorer Sapsford 'buzzing' after fightback in Vienna

Dundee United goalscorer Zac Sapsford says "the whole team is buzzing" after the Tannadice club came from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw with Rapid Vienna. Jim Goodwin's side head back to Tannadice for the second leg of their Conference League third qualifying round with everything to play for after a creditable draw in Austria. "I'm really pleased with the whole team today," Sapsford, who scored United's second goal, told BBC Scotland. "We all put a shift in and keep the tie alive going back to Dundee."Every game is tough, I like to work hard. No matter what I do, I like to come off the pitch with everything left on the field."We'll see next Thursday [how significant the goal is]."They're really good on the ball but I think we did a fantastic job tonight to keep them to two goals."We all work so hard we were able to score really good goals against them and I think the whole team is buzzing."

Wayne Rooney's 15-year-old son Kai helps Man United win opening game at Under-19 tournament – while 'Kid Messi' JJ Gabriel sees goal disallowed

Wayne Rooney's teenage son Kai has taken another impressive step in his fledgling football career by helping Manchester United's Under-19s begin their campaign at the Mladen Ramljak Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rapid Vienna. The 15-year-old forward, who has been fast-tracked from United's Under-16s after impressing at last week's Super Cup NI in Northern Ireland, played against opponents up to four years older in Zagreb on Thursday afternoon. Kai, who can play either as a No 9 or out wide, featured in a United side that included a number of the club's most promising youth players – among them 14-year-old striker JJ Gabriel, the Nike-sponsored sensation nicknamed 'Kid Messi'. Gabriel thought he had added a second goal for the Red Devils late on, only for his effort to be ruled out. The only goal of the game came from captain Amir Ibragimov, who coolly converted a second-half penalty. Ibragimov also created United's best first-half opportunity, carrying the ball forward from midfield before slipping in Edward Fletcher, whose effort was saved from a tight angle. Goalkeeper Byrne-Hughes then made a crucial one-on-one save to keep the scores level just before the break. The match, played in sweltering conditions at Dinamo Zagreb's academy base, marked the first of three group-stage games for United at the prestigious youth tournament. They will face Juventus on Friday before meeting hosts Dinamo Zagreb – the defending champions – over the weekend. Kai Rooney's inclusion in the Under-19 squad is being seen as a significant vote of confidence in his long-term potential, having already caught the eye in Northern Ireland last week, where he scored and assisted as United's Under-16s reached the Super Cup NI final. His call-up to this tournament mirrors the path taken by his father, Wayne, who played in the same competition (then known as the Milk Cup) for Everton back in 2000. Wayne and Coleen Rooney were ever-present during last week's games, watching on with their younger sons Kit and Cass. The family also enjoyed a visit to Curry's Fun Park in Portrush, where they mingled with fans and staff. Speaking after the Super Cup NI, Rooney Sr said of Kai: 'He just plays, that's what he's always done. It's unfair to expect too much — he's only 15. But he handles the pressure of his surname very well.' Kai joined United's academy in 2020 and has steadily progressed through the age groups. His playing style has drawn inevitable comparisons to his father, with coaches praising his movement, finishing, and ability to find space in the box. The Mladen Ramljak Tournament has become a regular stop for Man United's academy sides in recent years. Previous editions have featured future stars such as Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic, and Eduardo Camavinga – underlining the calibre of opposition and the value of experience gained. Victory over Rapid gives United the perfect platform heading into Friday's clash with Juventus. The final will be held on Sunday between the winners of each four-team group.

Louis Rees-Zammit backed to make Wales return by new coach Steve Tandy - after 24-year-old left American football for rugby

Louis Rees-Zammit has been tipped to make an instant return to Wales duty by new coach Steve Tandy. Rees-Zammit is returning to rugby after failing to break into American football. As reported by Daily Mail Sport, the 24-year-old is set to join rebel league R360 from the summer of 2026. Who the flying wing plays for this season remains unclear but Rees-Zammit is available to represent Wales in November. 'You wouldn't rule anything out,' said Tandy, when asked if Rees-Zammit could come straight back in having not played at Test level since the 2023 World Cup. 'Zammo brings a big effect and excitement. It's great for the game. He's gone away to experience something new, which is class, and I'm sure he will be in outstanding physical condition.' Wales ended a run of 18 straight Test defeats in Japan last month, so Tandy will start in November with a clean slate.
