Tree uprooted in Kalkaji, crushes bike and car amid heavy rain in Delhi
Videos of the incident surfaced on social media, one showing a man exclaiming, 'Look, the neem tree in front has fallen. And see, the car is crushed. Look, the person on the bike has been crushed to death.'
Roads in the area were flooded, and people gathered at the site.
'The two people were rescued by local police under the supervision of ACP Kalkaji and shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre. No other fatalities have been reported so far,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Hemant Tiwari.
Reacting to the tragedy, former Delhi chief minister and AAP MLA Atishi wrote on X: 'A young man died today due to a tree falling on Hansraj Sethi Marg during the rain. A girl is fighting for her life. Due to the failure of the BJP in this rainy season, many Delhiites have lost their lives. Who will take responsibility for this? Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ji should immediately sack PWD Minister Pravesh Verma ji from her cabinet.'

Shivakumar accuses BJP of politicising Dharmasthala case
Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday accused the BJP of 'playing politics' over the Dharmasthala 'multiple murders and burials' case. He was responding to BJP's 'Dharmasthala Chalo' rally, in which party members travelled in several vehicles to the temple town protesting against what they call a 'smear campaign' against Hindu temples and traditions.'BJP did not speak anything initially, now all of them are speaking. They should have spoken at the beginning. Now those in BJP are engaging in politics, nothing else. They are going there (Dharmasthala) for the sake of politics,' The Deputy CM said in response to a question. Speaking to reporters here, he said the BJP thinks Hindutva is their property. 'But, it belongs to no one. It is each individual's devotion, feeling and faith.' '...Why didn't they speak when the complaint was lodged -- and say it is wrong?' he asked. The SIT formed by the state government is probing charges of multiple murders, rapes, and burials across different places in Dharmasthala, over the past two decades. 'When a complaint was given -- whether it was a lie or not -- when it was given before the magistrate, if it was not investigated, the same BJP would have questioned the government. Now they are doing politics...' he said.'Let them (BJP) demand a narco analysis test (against complainant), but why didn't they object when SIT was formed. They were the ones who demanded the probe and SIT, now they are speaking whatever they want regarding the probe. The government is not interfering in the probe,' he added. The saffron party has been critical of the government's handling of the investigation and its 'failure' to act against what they call a 'slander campaign' targeting Dharmasthala and the temple there.

BJP seeks strong law to protect women from forced conversions in Kerala
KOCHI: Alleging the involvement of anti-national forces behind the death of a 23-year-old woman in Kothamangalam, the BJP has demanded that the state government bring in a piece of legislation against love jihad. 'If the government is apprehensive about the term 'love jihad', they can change it. But we want strong legislation to protect women who are cheated in the name of love and then tortured to convert to Islam. We cannot tolerate such activities,' said BJP state vice-president Shone George. 'The Kothamangalam woman was taken to Panayikulam, where she was locked up in a room and tortured demanding to convert. The police say they cannot use the term love jihad because it has not been defined in legal terminology. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan have not spoken a word against such moves. By refusing to oppose love jihad, the government is supporting these activities. Panayikulam, where the girl was tortured, is notorious for anti-national activities. It was the location of a SIMI camp in the past. We have appealed to the government to hand over the investigation to a Central agency,' he said. According to him, there were many people other than the relatives of the accused in the house during the torture. Though the parents of the accused were present at the house for three days, the police failed to arrest them. 'Now they are under PFI protection, making it difficult for the police to nab them. In a similar incident, a differently abled girl was tortured in Kollam. The police have not arrested the accused. Those who protested against the nuns' arrest in Chhattisgarh are silent on love jihad,' he said.

VHP leader's death anniv passes off peacefully
Phulbani: The17th death anniversary of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati passed off peacefully in Kandhamal district amidst tightened security arrangements on Friday. While security was especially tightened around Saraswati's ashrams at Chakapada and Jalespeta, the entire district was placed under a security blanket as the VHP leader's assassination on August 23, 2008 led to large-scale violence that claimed 38 lives. Saraswati's death anniversary is observed according to the Hindu calendar, Jalespeta ashram head Swami Jeevan Muktananda Puri said. The monk and four of his associates were gunned downed while they were celebrating Janmashtami at Jalespeta ashram under Tumudibandh police station in the SP Harish BC said security was tightened across the district in view of Saraswati's death anniversary, which in previous years had sparked violence in the region. Apart from two ashrams, armed police were also deployed at vulnerable points, the SP said, adding that no report of any untoward incident was received from any place. Though it was claimed that Maoists were involved in the killing of Saraswati and his associates, the VHP continued to demand the arrest of the mastermind of the mass murder. "The State government is committed to arresting all culprits responsible for the killings," Kandhamal MP Sukant Panigrahi said. Meanwhile, Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress criticised the BJP government in the State for not making public the report of the commission that probed the killing of the VHP leader. Soon after the BJP came to power in the State last year, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan assured that the inquiry commission report on the killing of Saraswati would be made public. Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra was appointed as the one-man commission to probe Saraswati's killing and the subsequent riots in 2008. However, he passed away in 2012 before completing the inquiry. Then, Justice A S Naidu was appointed to head the panel, which submitted its report in two volumes to the Home Secretary in December 2015.
