The Erode Book Festival 2025, jointly organised by the district administration and Makkal Sinthanai Peravai, will be inaugurated on Friday evening (August 1, 2025) at Chikkaiah Government Arts and Science College in Veerappanchatiram.
Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, will inaugurate the festival in the presence of Collector S. Kandasamy, elected representatives, and officials.
The festival will be held from August 1 to 12, featuring 230 stalls, each with a unique theme. Renowned publishers from other States and countries are expected to participate.
The festival will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Prominent speakers and scholars will deliver lectures and interact with visitors every evening throughout the festival.

Collector launches book reading movement ahead of Erode Book Festival 2025

In a bid to promote reading habits among school and college students ahead of the Erode Book Festival 2025, District Collector S. Kandasamy launched a district-wide book reading movement on Thursday. As part of the initiative, the Collector also joined students and read books with them, emphasising the joy and importance of reading. The 21st edition of the Erode Book Festival is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 12 at the grounds of Chikkaiah Government Arts and Science College, Erode. The festival is being jointly organised by the Department of Public Libraries and Makkal Sinthanai Peravai. To mark the occasion and underscore the significance of the event, the Collector read books with students for 21 minutes. Speaking about the value of reading, he noted that 'books are essential tools for intellectual and cultural development. Reading enhances knowledge, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.' He also cited notable sayings such as 'Let's read books to build a better world,' and 'Touching a book may feel like paper, but reading it continuously turns it into a weapon of success.' The book reading movement witnessed participation from 1.6 lakh school and college students across the district, who took part from their respective institutions. Students read a wide range of literature, including works by scholars, science books, literary novels, short stories, poetry collections, books on ethics, biographies, and thought-provoking essays.

Vanmahotsav fete held at St George School

Karimnagar: Vanmahotsav celebrations were held at St George International School (CBSE) in the city on Tuesday. The event was inaugurated by Karimnagar Police Commissioner Goush Alam, who planted a sapling to mark the occasion. Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of trees for human survival and urged everyone to plant and nurture them. He also stressed the need to protect the environment and preserve natural resources. Later, police personnel spoke to the students about cybercrime and safety tips for girls. The programme aimed to create awareness about environmental conservation and promote tree plantation. School Chairman Dr P Fatima Reddy emphasised the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance. He encouraged everyone to plant saplings and nurture them. The event was attended by Karimnagar Rural CI Reddy, Prohibition and Excise CI Pullaiah, Women Police Station CI Srilatha, Cybercrime CI G. Srinivas, SI Kothapalli Sanjeev garu, Principals Bhargav and Priyadarshini, teachers, and students.
