‘Do not depute anyone': Ajit Pawar as Shinde skips NCP's felicitation ceremony of former CMs
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday skipped a programme organised by Ajit Pawar-led NCP to feliciate previous Chief Ministers of Maharashtra.
The NCP has organised a 'Gauravshali Maharashtra' festival between May 1 and 4 to mark 65 years of the state formation at central Mumbai 's Worli, where a felicitation of all erstwhile Chief Ministers was planned on Saturday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, former CMs Ashok Chavan and Narayan Rane (all from the BJP) attended the function. NCP-SP chief and Ajit Pawar's estranged uncle Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, and Congress's Prithviraj Chavan and Sushil Kumar Shinde did not attend the programme.
NCP's Maharashtra chief Sunil Tatkare said three days ago that a special invitation will be sent to Sharad Pawar through Praful Patel for the programme. NCP-SP's state chief Jayant Patil on Saturday said that no such invitation was extended to Pawar.
'I received a call from Shindeji at 4pm today, telling me that he was at his native village Dare in Satara district, supervising a festival organised by the state tourism department in Mahabaleshwar. Therefore, he could not attend the program,' said NCP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Shinde had deputed state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik to represent him.
Pawar took a dig at Shinde, asking him to not depute anyone to represent him. 'This felicitation was of a former Chief Minister. It is ok if he (Shinde) cannot attend. Deputing someone to represent a former CM doesn't look good. I request Shindeji not to depute anyone for such a program in future,' said Ajit Pawar.
Fadnavis in his speech said the programme was not political in nature and it would have been good had all attended it. BJP Rajya Sabha and former CM Narayan Rane however left no room for guessing by saying those in foreign country should also have come. Rane's arch-rival and former CM Uddhav Thackeray is currently abroad.

Thane train accident: Activists seek new local trains from Diva to reduce overcrowding on Thane-Diva corridor
THANE: The Mumbra incident reignited long-standing demands for local trains to start from Diva, a move activists say could ease pressure on the overcrowded Thane-Diva corridor, which was second highest in commuter fall-related casualties last year. BJP MLC Niranjan Davkhare, among the first to reach Mumbra station, said commuters and activists requested him to push for Diva-originating locals. 'It's a justified demand. We will convey it to the railway administration and work towards it,' he said. Both Shiv Sena and NCP (SP) also flagged the issue, pointing out that despite a population surge in Diva over the past decade, very few trains halt there. Those that do originate from distant suburbs, leaving local commuters struggling to board. Dr Shrikant Shinde, Shiv Sena MP from Kalyan, called for launching Diva-CSMT locals and fast-tracking the extension of the fifth and sixth lines beyond Kurla. 'While the Thane-Kalyan lines helped, we now need to extend them up to CSMT to ease congestion,' he said. NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad reiterated his demand to start Diva-CSMT locals immediately. 'Mumbra and Kalwa's populations soared, but local services haven't kept up. AC locals are not the answer—trains from Kasara, Titwala, and Kalyan arrive packed, leaving no room for our commuters,' he said.

'Fake arena': Ahead of Maharashtra civic polls, UBT strongman Chandrahar Patil joins Shinde camp
THANE: Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde took a pointed jab at the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction on Monday, referring to it as a 'fake arena' and reminded his supporters how he floored his political rivals during the 2022 rebellion. Shinde was speaking late Monday at an induction event in Thane, where two-time Maharashtra Kesari winner and prominent UBT leader Chandrahar Patil from Western Maharashtra joined the Shiv Sena along with several supporters from western Maharashtra. The defection comes ahead of key municipal elections, adding to the list of high-profile exits from the UBT camp. 'Today, you've stepped out of a fake arena and into the real one. You've left behind the company of the cunning for that of the sincere,' Shinde told Patil. 'Though I am not a wrestler, in 2022 I floored my opponents so thoroughly that they still haven't got back on their feet,' he added, in a veiled reference to the UBT leadership. Recalling the period following his rebellion, Shinde said, 'I was targeted with daily accusations and insults. But instead of retaliating with words, I responded through action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! He emphasised that the Sena under his leadership remains committed to the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray. 'This is not a party of mockery and arrogance. It's a party built by and for grassroots workers. Balasaheb treated his colleagues as equals, but after him, some began treating workers like subordinates. They forgot that pride doesn't last forever.'

‘Have had no time to discuss in last 15 days': Supriya Sule sidesteps question on buzz over NCP factions reuniting
NCP (SP) working President Supriya Sule on Tuesday avoided a direct response on the speculation about the rival NCP factions coming together, saying she was busy with other responsibilities and had no time to discuss the party affairs. Asked if she is remembering 'dada' — her cousin and rival NCP head Ajit Pawar — on the Nationalist Congress Party's 26th foundation day on Tuesday, the Lok Sabha member told reporters that she has six brothers, and she remembers them every day. To a query on whether she will call Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to wish him on the party's foundation day, Sule said, 'I speak to all my brothers on different occasions.' The NCP, founded by Sharad Pawar, split in July 2023 after nephew Ajit Pawar joined the then Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government. The party name and its clock symbol were given to the Ajit Pawar faction, while the one headed by the former Union agriculture minister was christened NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). There has been speculation that the two factions could be looking at burying the hatchet and reuniting. To a query on a section of the NCP (SP) having the same feeling and Sharad Pawar saying all decisions regarding the party will be taken by her, Sule said, 'I have had no time to discuss the party affairs with party leaders or meet my family for the last 15 days.' Everyone has the right to express their views and opinions in a democracy, she added. 'NCP is an organisation founded by Sharad Pawar and is functional for 26 years. Everyone, whether they are with us or not, has contributed to the growth of the party. There was teamwork. I am remembering R R Patil, who is no more,' she said. Sule recently led a multi-party delegation and travelled to some of the foreign countries to convey India's stand following Operation Sindoor, the parliamentarian said she will be leaving in the afternoon for New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet members of multi-party delegations which travelled abroad
