July 23 South Africa (Scottsville) form analysis

Race 1 (1,100m) Many first-timers, so keep an eye on the betting. Of those that have run, (12) TULIP FIELDS caught the eye on debut when running on stoutly on the Poly. She is down in distance but should run well. (13) BELLIGERENT improved nicely second time and should be primed for this. (1) LOVE THE USA has not been far back in two starts and gets a 4kg claimer aboard. (3) WINTER BLESSING has had a few chances, but has also shown some ability and run well on this course. Race 2 (1,000m) Many first-timers. (7) MFETHU made a smart debut on this course and jockey Gavin Lerena picks up the ride from the suspended Sean Veale. (9) BOARDWALK BREEZE has been knocking on the door and must have a strong chance on his best effort. Debutants (8) EXOCET and (3) COWBOY COUNTRY have got favourable comments from their trainers and could be best of the first-timers. Race 3 (1,400m) (3) DIRECTOR improved nicely at his second time of asking and, with a handy draw, he should put in a good run. (10) GOOD OMEN has drawn wide, but improved in his last run behind Group 1 Premier's Champion Stakes nominee Ziyan's Pride. (1) GALLIC VICTOR comes from a strong stable and is one to watch in the betting. (8) THIRTEEN FOURTEEN found some market support on debut. Although a well beaten fourth, he should come on with the experience. Race 4 (1,400m) (11) RALPH THE RASCAL has a wide draw to contend with, but came good last run over the course and distance. Although he steps up in class, he still has leading apprentice Brevan Plaatjies aboard with his 1.5kg claim. (1) KIMBALL O'HARA has the best draw, but is 3kg worse off at the weights with Ralph The Rascal for a half-length beating, and seems unlikely to turn the tables. (3) DANCING ON A CLOUD has been disappointing since his maiden win, but gets first-time blinkers which could bring out his best. (7) ROOSTER BRADSHAW came from a long way back to win his last start nicely on the Poly. This longer straight will suit him even better. Watch him. Race 5 (1,600m) An open handicap. (5) UZWANO has won his last two on the Poly with blinkers, but he has also won on the turf. He looks progressive and can do it again. (6) BRISTOL HERCULES is seldom out of the money and goes well over the course and distance. (11) GO GRAYSON GO has a tricky draw to contend with, but gets the benefit of Rachel Venniker's 1.5kg allowance over what looks to be his optimum trip. (7) THE BRIEF has his first outing for a new stable. He comes with useful Highveld form and is one to watch in the betting. Race 6 (1,100m) (8) PRANKSTER was a comfortable winner in his last start on this course and could be difficult to beat in this line-up. (9) TERIYAKI seldom runs a poor race and his last two have been on the Poly starting at long odds. He looks better suited to this trip. (3) NOW I GOT YOU has a handy 4kg claimer on board and is holding form, while (1) JANE'S VISION can be dangerous. Race 7 (1,200m) (1) GOOD TRAVELLER is long overdue, but the handicappers have been reluctant to drop his rating given his consistency. That could change after this. (2) KHETHIWE'S DESTINY is relatively lightly raced, but has some useful from in good company. She gets first-time blinkers and a tongue-tie, and should be competitive in this line-up. (10) MAPHAKA has not been out since January and Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, so his fitness must be taken on trust. However, Cape form is generally a lot stronger than local and he has shed his maiden over course and distance. (11) GORGEOUS GUY has consistent form and won his last start comfortably, but he is up in class. Race 8 (1,200m) Terry Fripp has been looking after Candice Bass-Robinson's runner during Champions Season and he could lead in another winner in (12) MASTEROFTHEDESERT. The gelding has shown up nicely in his two local starts, but has been dropped two points in the handicap, which could be enough to see him home. (9) MAR DEL PLATA seldom runs a bad race and loves this course. (6) IN THE BAG may just have needed his first run for his new stable, while (5) MOYA WA LALIGA has been consistent and gets a 4kg claimer up, which will help his chances of a sixth win.

June 14 South Africa (Scottsville) form analysis

Race 1 (1,200m) (4) CRace 1 (1,200m)ELESTIAL DIAMOND was friendless in the market on debut but finished close-up in spite of racing green over course and distance. (13) TULIP FIELDS found good market support when making her debut over 1,400m on the Poly. She raced green and although down in trip and on turf, she has a strong chance. (6) DANCEWITHDIAMONDS comes from a very much in-form stable. Watch in the betting. (2) WATER HYACINTH found market support last time and was not far back. She can feature. Race 2 (1,200m) (10) GOTTA GO EDDIE has shown up well in both starts and ran second over course and distance on debut. (3) BOARDWALK BREEZE has not been far back in two starts to date. He should be better for the experience and Muzi Yeni stays with the ride. (11) FRENCH WAR LORD raced green in a promising debut and is sure to improve on that effort. (6) THE CENTURION was not far back in his Kenilworth debut in soft ground. He started at long odds but may be worth watching. Race 3 (1,200m) (2) THAT'LL B THE DAY was narrowly beaten on this course at just his second outing. That experience will count in his favour. (6) LIGHT THE FIRE was green in a promising debut and should come on with the outing. The regally-bred (12) GIMME RULES makes his debut and is a full brother to Group 1 performers. (11) NEXT OF KIN comes from a top stable and will be worth watching in the betting. Race 4 (1,400m) (1) STAR IN MOTION steps up in trip but has been narrowly beaten at his last two on the Poly. The extra should suit and he can go one better. (3) WORLD OF ROYALTY has put in two smart efforts over shorter in soft ground and was a beaten favourite last time. The trip will suit and he should put in a big showing. (4) CAPTAINSHIP started at long odds when going the trip for the first time from the widest draw at Greyville. He has Richard Fourie in the irons. (7) VENCEDOR has come good of late and stays the trip well. He is another to consider. Race 5 (1,000m) (5) BLUE HOLLY is back over what looks to be her preferred trip. This is her third run in KZN and should be at her peak. (3) MIA'S ATHENA has had her problems but has her third run back after a lengthy break. She was close-up last start has a light weight. She can give apprentice Savanna Valjalo her first winner. (6) VISION TO ACHIEVE has been in mustard form over course and distance. She has a handy weight and can do it again. (4) CONVOCATION was possibly outclassed in the SA Fillies Sprint last time after showing good form to weaker prior to that. She may prefer it a touch further. Race 6 (2,400m) (6) MY SOUL MATE was runner-up in a strong Woolavington 2000 field. She will be a big runner. (9) WORLD OF ALICE was narrowly beaten in the Group 2 SA Oaks by star filly Fiery Pegasus. She was a little disappointing last time but rates a strong chance in this line-up. (3) GIVE ME EVERYTHING steps up to this trip for the first time. She looks held by My Soul Mate on their last meeting but can improve. (4) KNOCKOUT has not been far back at recent outings. She steps up in trip and is worth a shot. Race 7 (2,400m) (6) HOLDING THUMBS stays the distance well and looks the part. (8) FUTURE SWING was a close-up second to (5) FIELD MARSHAL last time. He is 5.5kg better off Field Marshal at the weights, so should be able to turn the tables. (2) CAPE EAGLE goes well over course and distance and had no luck in running in the WSB 1900. He is seldom out of the money. Race 8 (1,400m) (2) ROSH KEDESH is down in class and has shown up well in two KZN starts. He should be primed for this. (1) SERPENTINE FIRE is 1.5kg better off with Honor Of Kings for a length beating. There should be very little in it this time around with Serpentine Fire having the better draw this time around. (10) HONOR OF KINGS was not far back when starting favourite last run. The extra furlong will suit and he can make amends. (13) RED MOUNTAIN is never far back and although drawn wide, he has a 4kg claimer aboard and the blinkers are back on.

Persons with disabilities to take part in 2025 StanChart Marathon alongside able-bodied participants

PHOTO: LIANHE ZAOBAO SINGAPORE – In a push for inclusivity, the 2025 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) will feature persons with disabilities (PWDs) alongside able-bodied participants, as part of an initiative titled One Race, Many Journeys. The initiative was launched at The Westin Singapore on June 4 in celebration of it being the official elite hotel for the SCSM for the third straight year, with the hotel pledging to help PWDs achieve their sporting goals at Singapore's biggest marathon. This is not the first time that the SCSM will see participation of PWDs, with wheelchair users having already featured previously. In 2018, it introduced an elite wheelchair racing category, which was also included in 2019 . James Walkden, general manager of The Westin Singapore , said: 'This year, we wanted to do more to support the community and encourage more people to get involved. Therefore, we came up with the One Race, Many Journeys initiative to demonstrate that there are many ways to get to one destination and there is no one correct answer.' Selected PWDs will receive complimentary entry to the category of their choice at this year's SCSM, those being the 5km, 10km, half-marathon or marathon categories. Showing their support at the launch were American former Paralympic champion swimmer Gregory Burns and Australian ultramarathoner Natalie Dau, both of whom are based in Singapore and ambassadors of The Westin Singapore. Natalie Dau (left) and Gregory Burns (right) are both ambassadors for The Westin Singapore. PHOTO: LIANHE ZAOBAO Burns, who has been living in Singapore for the past 30 years, believes the initiative will help change public perception of PWDs in wider society. 'When I came here in 1995, there were much fewer physically challenged people out and about. But in 30 years, the physical infrastructure has got better,' said the 68-year-old, a three-time Paralympian with five medals (two golds, two silvers, one bronze). 'Singapore has developed and grown as a compassionate society and the SCSM is yet another way to show that these physically challenged people are out and about and we all can make the best of what we do.' Burns, who is also a passionate artist, unveiled an artwork he had been working on for the past month in support of the initiative. The artwork, named Runners, is a hybrid media piece that combines digital art with contemporary painting techniques. 'This is a collage painting and it's (also) a collage of a race of different people with different abilities and disabilities,' he said. Dau, who completed the second iteration of Project 1000 in May, this time running 1,000km through the Philippines over 12 days , encouraged those participating in the SCSM to be more actively inclusive. Dau, 53, said: 'There's still a big gap between the people that are starting and the people that may be a bit more experienced and I think what we've been missing in Singapore is real inclusivity and the community coming together.' 'Try to mend your passion with purpose. If you have the opportunity to run the marathon for something bigger than yourself, make the most of that,' she added. 'A lot of us don't have friends with disabilities, so if you are running next to someone who is not able-bodied, then have a chat (with them) and welcome them into the community.' After the event launch, both Burns and Dau went for a short 2.4km run with members of the public. PHOTO: LIANHE ZAOBAO The 2025 SCSM will take place on Dec 6 and 7. Registration is open till Nov 30, or until all slots are sold out. The 2024 edition drew about 55,000 runners over three days, including close to 13,000 international participants from 84 countries.
