The bizarre Celtic transfer act of Said Hamulic as striker finally set for Premiership switch

Daily Record22-06-2025
The Tannadice outfit have agreed a season-long loan deal with Toulouse
Said Hamulic has never been one to shy away from headlines but Jim Goodwin will be hoping it will be his goals for Dundee United that will have everybody talking.
United have agreed a season-long loan deal with Toulouse for the Bosnia and Herzegovina striker and that deal could be finalised in the next 48 hours.

The 24-year-old has been with the French side for two years but has struggled to make his mark and after disappointing loan spells at Vitesse, Lokomotiv Moscow and Widow Lodz he will be looking to get back on track with Goodwin's Euro-bound squad.

Hamulic is no stranger to Scotland as he was on Celtic r adar back in 2023 before he made the move to Ligue 1.
The Dutch-born forward had come to the fore after a goal-filled loan spell at Polish side Stal Mielec.
Hamulic, who had been loaned out from Lithuanian side Dainava to Poland, netted an impressive nine goals and pitched in with four assists in just 19 appearances.
It made him hot property and the player certainly thought he was close to sealing a move to Celtic.
A bizarre 'Said Hamulic, welcome to Celtic video' with a show reel of his career highlights was briefly posted on his Instagram account before it was quickly removed.
A few weeks later, it was Toulouse who sealed a deal when they agreed to pay £2million to land him.

The Bosnian never got his move to Scotland at that point but is finally set to get a crack at the Scottish Premiership in the tangerine and black of Dundee United.
Hamulic moved to Toulouse in the January of 2023 but made just nine appearances and failed to net.
He did end up with a Coupe de France winner' medal, as an unused sub as Toulouse beat Nantes 5-1.

The frontman then made headlines as he was one of three players at Toulouse who were alleged to have refused to wear a rainbow flag on their club shirt, which was part of a campaign by the French Football Federation.
Zakaia Aboukhlal was left on the bench while Moussa Diarra and Hamulic were left out of the squad for the match against Nantes.
The 2022-23 season was to finish on a high as he got his first taste of international football with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He won the first of his six caps against Luxembourg in that June.
There was the hope that could help spark his career in Toulouse the following season but he was sent back to his country of birth and a loan spell with Vitesse to try and get him to rediscover his form.
It didn't go the way either side hoped. He failed to score in 14 appearances and in January his loan was terminated.

Hamulic, though, always remained confident and Goodwin will be hoping that continues at Tannadice and also seeps on to the pitch.
Hamulic said: "I don't know if I will stay in Toulouse.
'I don't know what the plans are and what will happen. When I get home, I'll think about it.

'It was a difficult season for me, also mentally.
'But when you look at my career, I always come back stronger. This will also be the case next season."

He went to Lokomotiv Moscow but played one game as his loan was wrecked by injury.
Last season he went out on loan to Polish side Widzew Lodz but again injury curtailed him. He netted once in 13 games and also pitched in with three assists.
The goals haven't exactly been free-flowing for Hamulic since he moved to France.

But if they had, then he would have been out of United's financial grasp.
Goodwin, along with fellow new striker Zac Sapsford, is now going to give him an opportunity to get back to his best.
It is quite similar to Sam Dalby.
Before he came up on loan to United, he had hardly had a prolific strike rate but ended up amongst the Premiership's top scorers.
Goodwin will be hoping Hamulic can do something similar.

Man Utd transfer news: Amorim's role in Sesko deal as rivals provide Baleba competition

Manchester United have landed the signing of Benjamin Sesko with Ruben Amorim playing a key role as the club consider going after PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma Manchester United's rebuild continues under Ruben Amorim with the club confirming the signing of Benjamin Sesko this weekend - capturing the striker from under Newcastle's nose. ‌ The Red Devils beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of the Slovenian, who moves to Old Trafford for more than £70million to bolster their attack. The club had been looking to land a new frontman to compliment fellow newbies Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. ‌ It is understood that a midfielder is next on their shopping list with Brighton 's Carlos Baleba heavily linked, albeit the player himself has shown no desire to quit Brighton. The Seagulls also do not have to sell this summer. ‌ Amorim will also hope to rid of some of his fringe players, some of their big names on big wages. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnaco and Antony are well yet to find new homes. Here's the latest from Old Trafford. Sesko explains Amorim role in move United's new frontman admitted the mood around the club was evident from minute one with Amorim's changes clearly making a difference when attracting new faces. The ex-Sporting Lisbon manager's vision is also turning heads and aided Sesko's decision. He said: 'When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon. ‌ 'From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.' PSG ready for Donnarumma bid PSG anticipate a number of bids for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after already signing his replacement — and the French champions believe United will be among the clubs queuing up. ‌ The Parisians have agreed a deal for Lille shotstopper Lucas Chevalier, who will join on a five-year contract after the Champions League winners decided to pay up €40m (£34.7m), with the potential for a further €15m (£13m) in add-ons, for his services. Donnarumma has just one year remaining on his contract in Paris and the club are happy to part ways with the understanding they would still have two top goalkeepers at the Parc des Princes. The former AC Milan star is said to have been interested in extending his deal but an agreement was not reached. ‌ Baleba competition United could face firm competition from local neighbours Manchester City, who are also keeping tabs on Baleba. Reports claim that the Red Devils have made contact with Brighton through intermediaries to register their interest in Baleba, who was signed for £23.2m back in 2023. But United are not the only club who see the Cameroon international as a shrewd addition with City also long-time fans. ESPN have confirmed Pep Guardiola's interest in the Brighton man but it is unclear whether would look to match any United bid this summer. Liam Scales urges Celtic transfer calm as defender insists he's seen enough to know one thing already

Brendan Rodgers is desperate to bring in attacking reinforcements with the clock ticking on the Champions League play-off deadline. Liam Scales insists Celtic are strong enough to have another successful season at home and abroad - even without any more summer additions. ‌ The Hoops defender reckons there should be no panic over a lack of big money signings despite anxiety growing among punters. ‌ Brendan Rodgers has to register his squad for the Champions League play-offs in just four days' time. And the manager has been clear in his message that he doesn't want the club to stand still while repeatedly stating the need to replace the goals lost by the exits of Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn and the lengthy injury that has ruled Jota out until the new year. ‌ So far Shin Yamada, the untried Callum Osmond and Benjamin Nygren have been added in a forward capacity. And on Friday Rodgers admitted he had no idea if any reinforcements would arrive before the £40m showdown against either Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava on August 20. Go Ahead Eagles playmaker Jakob Breum and Antwerp winger Michel Ange Balikwisha remain targets but the clock is ticking for the champions to bolster their ranks. However, Scales has urged the fans to remain patient. And he insists the squad as it stands is strong enough to compete on all levels. The Ireland international said: 'I understand that fans can be anxious to get new signings in, it's always exciting but these things do take time. ‌ 'I don't really know what's going on up above but I do know that after being involved in transfers in the past that they take time and it's never as straightforward as fans might think. These things just take time and that's football. 'I think we're in a good place and if one or two more are added before the end of the window, brilliant. 'If not, we're still really strong.' ‌ The pre-contract arrival of Hoops hero Kieran Tierney remains the headline deal of a summer which has seen a total of eight new signings so far at Parkhead. But Rodgers is eager for more with a striker and two wingers top of the agenda. Hoops chiefs left it late 12 months ago with Arne Engels, Austin Trusty and Luke McCowan all arriving in the final 48 hours of the window. Scales trusts the top brass are doing all they can to strengthen. But he reckons Rodgers' squad is in good shape no matter what. ‌ He said: 'Definitely, 100 per cent. We have strengthened and brought in players. We've had good games in pre-season and I think it's shown. 'We've got a strong squad and every day on the training pitch the level is constantly improving because those standards are being driven. 'As a squad, I think all the players, we feel like we're happy and we're strong and we're just raring to go.' ‌ The Hoops tackle Aberdeen at Pittodrie this afternoon after opening their defence of the title with a late 1-0 win over St Mirren at Parkhead last weekend. Rodgers' men then host Falkirk in the League Cup on Friday night before the first leg of the Champions League play off arrives in Glasgow the following Wednesday. After securing a league and cup double last season and reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, Scales knows the pressure is on if they are to show progress again in the next nine months. ‌ But the big defender insists he'll not get sidetracked by long term targets so early in the campaign. He said: 'I'm not looking too far ahead but to just get off to a good start in the league and League Cup and obviously qualify for the Champions League. 'I don't want to look anywhere past the next month or so, so that is really the immediate goals.' Meanwhile, Scales reckons the arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey to challenge for a spot in the Celtic backline can push him on to a new level. ‌ The Manchester City kid has joined on a season-long loan to provide competition to established stoppers Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Austin Trusty. Simpson-Pusey has only six senior games under his belt but already has Champions League experience having been thrown in from the start by Pep Guardiola against Sporting Lisbon last season. ‌ Rodgers spoke highly of the 19-year-old's ability last week, revealing the trust he had gained from Guardiola spoke volumes. And Scales has welcomed the challenge - insisting the Etihad prospect can help drive standards even higher. He said: 'Yeah, the start of every season and transfer window, the manager is always looking to bring in players to strengthen the squad and you can't ever get complacent at this club . ‌ 'So I think that does help to keep everyone in every position at the top of the game because there's always going to be someone capable who can play in your position. 'I think it's really good for the dressing room and it's really good for the standards of the club, so it's definitely not a negative thing.' Scales made 39 appearances for the Hoops last season and is determined to build on that this time round. ‌ He started with a solid 90 minute battle against St Mirren in last week's Premiership opening 1-0 win. And ahead of the trip to face Aberdeen, he said: 'Looking forward to it. It's a tough away one, but I enjoy it up there. I feel good. 'I had a good pre-season. I had no sort of niggles or injuries and I feel fit and ready to go. 'For me personally I just want to play as much as I can this season.'
