JJ Mandaquit, Team USA U19s Defeat Hannes Steinbach and Team Germany in FIBA World Cup
Mandaquit tallied his lone steal in the championship game with under four minutes remaining in the first half after the four-star point guard knocked down his only 3-pointer of the game, providing an impact on both ends of the floor that already had Huskies' coach Danny Sprinkle excited about his potential in purple and gold.
The second half proved to be more of the same for Team USA, holding Germany to 29 points to claim a record ninth FIBA U19 World Cup as Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd saw his team finish the game off with 53 points. Steinbach added a team-high 19 points (8-of-14 shooting), 7 rebounds and 1 assist to claim the silver medal for Germany before he joins Mandaquit in Seattle next week.

Harris English moves into top 6 of U.S. Ryder Cup standings. Who else climbed after British?
Harris English might have played his way onto the U.S. Ryder Cup team the last couple months. It started with his T-2 finish at the PGA Championship. Then he finished T-12 at the Memorial, T-4 at the Travelers and capped it with a solo second at the 2025 British Open, finishing four shots behind Scottie Scheffler at Royal Portrush. His finish Sunday vaulted him four spots up the U.S. Ryder Cup standings to sixth, the final automatic spot to make Team USA for the biennial competition in two months at Bethpage Black. Scheffler, the world No. 1, is the only player already on the team via points. Next month, the top six in the standings will also earn automatic spots after the BMW Championship. The British Open was the last chance for players to earn large point totals, and English capitalized. Another player who cashed in was Chris Gotterup, his solo third moving him up 19 spots to 22nd on the list. Captain Keegan Bradley sits 10th in the points list, but with his recent play, fans have clamored for him to use a pick on himself. Time will tell to see whether that happens. Only four more weeks remains for golfers to automatically earn their spots on team USA, but for a majority of players trying to take on Team Europe, they're going to have to show Bradley why they deserve a captain's pick with their play. Here's a look at the updated United States Ryder Cup standings after the British Open: U.S. Ryder Cup standings as of July 21 Rank Name Points 1 Scottie Scheffler (x) 32420.33 2 Xander Schauffele 13383.85 3 J.J. Is Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum criminally underrated?
It didn't take long for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum to put together a Hall of Fame resume. The 27-year-old is already a six-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA First Teamer, and an NBA champion. In spite of these impressive accolades, the St. Louis native is constantly underrated. He led the Celtics in playoff points, rebounds, and assists en route to their 2024 title, yet missed out on NBA Finals MVP honors. Later that summer, Tatum was overlooked again at the Olympics, seeing the court for just 11 minutes during Team USA's gold medal game against France. Perhaps Tatum's true value will be on full display next season as he rehabs a ruptured Achilles. The Duke alum could miss the entire 2025-26 campaign, putting the Celtics' championship aspirations in serious jeopardy. But even as he rests, basketball pundits are still trying to rank Tatum. In fact, Bleacher Report just listed him as the 93rd-best player in NBA history, placing him behind arguably less accomplished players like Chris Webber and Jimmy Butler. On a recent episode of NESN's 'Hold My Banner,' hosts Adam Pellerin and Ountae Campbell debated Tatum's standing on the extensive Bleacher Report list, going as far as calling the rankings 'blasphemous.' Texas Longhorns guard Jordan Lee wins gold with Team USA
Texas Longhorns women's basketball had a reason to celebrate on Sunday. Star guard Jordan Lee earned her second gold medal with USA Basketball when Team USA won gold in the 2025 FIBA Women's U19 World Cup. As Team USA cruised to an 88-76 win over Australia on Sunday, Lee played a key role. During the tournament, Lee played in all seven games. The Saint Mary's High School product was a human highlight as she made an impact on both ends of the court. In the World Cup game, Lee scored seven points while dishing out four assists. She also was a menace on the boards with ten rebounds. While Lee is celebrating another significant milestone, this is not unfamiliar territory. She won gold with Team USA during the 2024 FIBA Women's U18 AmeriCup in Colombia. The California native was also part of the 2024 USA Women's Nike Hoop Summit team that defeated the World Select squad. She was the best player on the court, leading all players with a +17 plus/minus in that game. With the 2025-2026 campaign just a few months away, Lee will again be an important piece for the Longhorns. She is coming off a strong freshman year, in which she earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors. Lee scored in double figures in ten games. However, her best play came during March Madness. In the final four, the Longhorns' star scored 16 points against South Carolina. While the Longhorns' run unfortunately came to an end against the Gamecocks, Lee was part of history. Last season marked the first time that Texas advanced to the Final Four in 22 years. With another year of experience, Lee should be an exciting player to watch when the regular season begins.
