KIIT-DU Sends Largest Contingent from India to 2025 World University Games
KIIT is the first University in India to send highest no of sports persons
Odisha is second after Punjab among the states to send highest no of players
Bhubaneswar, July 10: KIIT-DU is set to make history by sending the largest contingent of student-athletes among all Indian universities to the 2025 World University Games (WUG) in Germany. With 40 athletes competing across seven sporting disciplines, KIIT will have the highest representation by a single Indian university in any edition of the Games.
The 2025 World University Games will be held from July 16 to 27 across the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin. Known as the Olympics for university athletes aged 17 to 25, the event will see participation from over 300 Indian student-athletes from 61 universities, selected through trials that drew entries from more than 400 universities nationwide.
KIIT has also been entrusted once again as a Nodal University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), continuing a leadership role it has played in previous editions such as Napoli 2019 and Chengdu 2023.
The athletes representing KIIT include Ms. Rupal (400m sprint); Ms. Ankita Dhyani (3000m steeplechase); Mr. Jeswin Aldrin (Long Jump); Mr. Praveen Chithravel (Triple Jump) and Mr. Animesh Kujur (current national record holder in 100m sprint).
Congratulating the sports persons and also the Indian Team the Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta said, we are promoting 'Education with Sports' model at KIIT. KIIT University has invested heavily in sporting infrastructure, training facilities, and athlete support systems, he added.
KIIT's role in the Indian delegation is not limited to athletes alone. The 407-member contingent (including sports and administrative officials) will benefit from the presence of seasoned coaches and experts such as Arjuna Awardee Rahul Banerjee (Archery), Surinder Singh (National Archery Coach), Sanjay Garnaik (International Athletics Coach), Lotak Bindu Dash (International Volleyball Coach), and Baljit Singh Sekhon (International Shooting Official and Head of Delegation).
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the AIU, and the Odisha Government have extended their support to ensure Indian athletes are well prepared.
In Odisha, KIIT-DU leads with highest number of players (40) selected in various categories in the upcoming games, while one each from Utkal and Sambalpur Universities have been selected for the event. In all, 42 players are representing Odisha in Germany.
Similarly, Odisha is at the second state after Punjab to be sending the maximum number of players to the World University Games.
KIIT has been consistently performing well in various sporting events both at home and abroad. In the WUG at Chengdu, China in 2023, Olympian Dutee Chand (Sprinter) won Gold medal while Bhavani Devi was a stand-out athlete in Fencing in the 2023 edition. Several athletes like Manu Bhaker, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale won medals for India.

Pooja gets top billing at AITA event in Chennai
Indium Software-3rd Edition of the AITA Rs 7 lakhs tennis championship for men, women both regular and wheelchair events in association with the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association will be from July 19 to July 26th 2025 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium Nungambakkam Chennai. A record number of 26 entries have been received for the Wheelchair men's singles event and seven entries for the women's wheelchair event. Top players of the country K Karthik, K Sathasivam, D Mariappan and S Balachander all from Tamil Nadu and Shekar Veeraswamy from Karnataka will take part in the men's event, while KP Shilpa and Prathima Rao from Karnataka will vie for top honours. Ravindra Jadeja, an Indian great, still searches for one epic
MANCHESTER: Six years ago, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was in the middle of an improbable chase at Old Trafford. The match, spread over two days, kept every Indian fan hooked to their TV sets as Jadeja and MS Dhoni tried hard to take their team over the line against New Zealand in the World Cup semifinal. India were reduced to 92/6 when the Saurashtra cricketer joined his Chennai Super Kings captain Dhoni in pursuit of a 240-run target. They slowly rebuilt the innings and were looking on course for scripting an unbelievable win for India when Jadeja got out after scoring 77 off 59. Dhoni perished soon after and India lost the match by 18 runs. It was kind of deja vu for Indian fans when they once witnessed Jadeja striving for an unlikely victory against England in the third Test at Lord's on Day Five. The format was different and so were the opponents but Jadeja's mission remained the same - an improbable win from the jaws of defeat. Unfortunately, the script remained the same as both India and Jadeja once again finished on the losing side. The 36-year-old southpaw, who has played 83 Tests so far scoring 3697 runs and accounting for 326 wickets, is at the fag end of his career. Having made his Test debut against the same opponents in 2012 in Nagpur, Jadeja is a player almost every captain would want in his team. He is effortless while batting — economical with his trigger movements — and reacts to the ball. He doesn't believe in premeditating shots. Instead, he prefers going by the books. With the ball in his hand, he can be the one who can repeatedly hit the good length for hours. He can deliver countless overs in no time and has the ability to contain the flow of runs from one end. Besides, he is an outstanding fielder across formats. The unbeaten knock of 61 that he played at Lord's was his fourth half-century in a row. India had seemingly lost the match even before lunch but it was Jadeja who kept them in the contest. At 112/8 when the teams dispersed, the all-rounder only had Nos. 10 and 11 — Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj — for company. Since then, he kept the team's hope alive for more than 35 overs taking the match, which could have finished soon after the lunch, into the last session of the day. Agreed, Bumrah faced 54 and Siraj played 30 out of those more than 210 deliveries but Jadeja himself faced more than 30 overs in the day to keep India in the hunt.
