New Delhi [India], August 7 (ANI): The Delhi High Court has disposed of a plea filed by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Director of M/s Panorama Studios, seeking to quash the criminal proceedings initiated against him concerning the financial fraud case related to the overseas rights of the Ajay Devgn film 'Drishyam 2'. The case concerns allegations of a ₹ 4.3 crore fraud involving the Chinese-language distribution rights of the film across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The FIR, which was filed in June 2025, accuses Pathak, Bharat Sevak, and others of conspiracy, document forgery, and misrepresentation of rights. Pathak approached the court to quash the FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), contending that the matter was purely commercial in nature and had been wrongly criminalized. His counsel argued that he had already cooperated with the investigation and was exploring parallel legal remedies. Justice Neena Krishna Bansal refused to keep the petition pending or grant any interim protection, observing that the investigation is still in its early stages. The court noted that since the petitioner had already joined the probe, no interference was warranted at this point. The complaint was filed by a Delhi-based businessman who alleged he was misled into investing ₹ 4.3 crore based on forged documents. He claimed he was promised exclusive Chinese distribution rights for Drishyam 2 through a deal presented by Bharat Sevak, who introduced himself as an authorized representative of Panorama Studios and a partner at Terra Bento Mines & Minerals. Sevak allegedly produced a term sheet and facilitated meetings with key members of the production house, including Kumar Mangat Pathak. According to the complaint, the businessman was also promised a share in the sales revenue. While Sevak claimed to have transferred ₹ 15.75 crore out of a total transaction value of ₹ 16.40 crore, Panorama Studios has denied receiving the funds and alleged that the money was deposited into an unrelated account. In response, Pathak submitted evidence stating that any authorization given to Sevak was limited and had expired well before the alleged agreement. The petition to quash the FIR included legal citations and a public notice issued by Panorama Studios, warning third parties against unauthorized claims made by Sevak. (ANI)

Honda's US sales rise, but tariff eats into profit
Honda's profit in the last quarter was half of what it was a year earlier, the company said Wednesday, as automakers were hit by 25 per cent tariffs on vehicle exports to the United States. The Japanese automaker reported Wednesday that its April-June profit totaled $1.3 billion, about half of what it earned during the same period the previous year. Quarterly sales edged 1.2 per cent lower to $36 billion. The Tokyo-based maker of the Accord sedan and Asimo robot revised upward its profit forecast for the full fiscal year through March 2026 to 420 billion yen ($2.9 billion), better than its earlier estimate of 250 billion yen. The improved projection still marks a 50 per cent drop from the previous year's results. Honda stuck to its forecast to sell 3.62 million vehicles worldwide in this fiscal year. It said its motorcycle business in Brazil and Vietnam was solid, while North American car sales also remained strong despite headwinds from the tariffs. The negative impact of the tariffs was estimated at about 450 billion yen ($3 billion), based on "a detailed review," according to Honda.

These rituals that defined reliable correspondence for generations will soon become memories. From September 1, India Post plans to merge its registered post and registered post with acknowledgement due (AD) service with speed post, marking the end of an age-old tradition. For many in Pune, this change evokes a bittersweet nostalgia. 'The Registered Post with AD was our preferred, affordable, and most reliable choice,' said Sudhanwa Jogalekar, a resident of Kothrud. 'That acknowledgement card coming back to us was like receiving a receipt, except it felt more real, more trustworthy.' The merger was announced through a Department of Posts circular dated July 2, which aims to streamline operations by consolidating similar services under a unified framework. The Registered Post service will be merged with the Speed Post service, with effect from September 1, with registration being an add-on feature. The rationale mentioned is to enhance operational efficiency. However, the integration raises concerns. For legal professionals like Purvi Jadhav, a Pune-based advocate, 'In legal matters, those personally signed acknowledgement receipts stand as proof in court proceedings,' she said. 'When you send legal documents or summons using registered post with AD, that physical receipt becomes evidence that the receiver has accepted or denied the order. The accountability was crystal clear.' 'The registered post was easily accessible, for example, a farmer sending documents from a remote village or a corporate executive in a metropolitan office. Its affordability made it more preferred,' Jadhav said. Jadhav also raised concerns about the digital transition's impact on vulnerable populations. 'Experiencing a rise in cyber frauds, online receipts can be forged, and it's difficult to identify fake ones. Rural areas, uneducated people, and tech-illiterate senior citizens will find it challenging to adapt to speed post's online interface,' she added. Though slower, registered post was seen as a preferred choice because of its security. It used to be delivered only to the person at the mentioned address, while speed post, a faster option, has a feature where anyone present at the mentioned address could receive it. 'In an era of instant messaging and digital communication, registered post represented patience and anticipation. Waiting for that acknowledgement card was like waiting for confirmation that your words and important documents had safely crossed miles, a ritual that connected sender and receiver through shared hope and trust,' added Jogalekar. According to the circular, all departments and affiliated users must shift operations by September 1, with operational training, updated guidelines, and system overhauls to be completed. An official from Pune's General Post Office (GPO) said, 'It is a policy-level decision for which the software overhaul and its training are in process. The merger is done for streamlining services into speed post by providing an online option to track their consignment, one can launch complaints online, and even the proof of delivery can be fetched through the website, and its printout can be used in courts.' 'The acknowledgement feature can be availed through speed post at Rs 10, which was Rs 3 earlier. And till September 1, the registered post service will stay in operation,' he added.
