Telangana family struggles to update land details on Dharani portal for seven years
SANGAREDDY: Mangali Anil Kumar on Monday made one more visit to the Sangareddy collectorate to submit a memorandum seeking the update of ownership of five guntas of land in his father's name on the Dharani portal. His family has been trying to settle the issue for the past seven years.
Speaking to TNIE, he said, 'We own the land in Lakdaram village, Patancheru mandal. Our land has been missing from the Pattadar passbooks since 2018, following the introduction of Dharani by the previous government. The portal does not reflect my father's name as the owner. My father, Mangali Pandu, tried to rectify the mistake and visited multiple offices for more than five years before he passed away in 2023. Since then, I have taken up the responsibility and visited several offices.'
He said he works in a shop in Yadgir, Karnataka and travels to the collectorate every alternate week to pursue the matter, but no action has been taken so far. Anil added that each visit to Sangareddy from his workplace costs him about Rs 2,000.
Meanwhile, his mother has been confined to the bed since the death of his father and his brothers are yet to settle down.
Stating that he has been asked to submit new applications multiple times, Anil lamented, 'The officials suggested I meet the CCLA. When I visited their office, they asked me to return to the district headquarters. It's become a never-ending loop.'
He appealed to the authorities to resolve the issue, saying the land is the only asset the family possesses.

MUMBAI: Elon Musk's Tesla is not interested in manufacturing in India, and all they are looking at right now is to showrooms in India, the Minister of Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said here on Monday after announcing the guidelines for Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SMEC). Though he said once the application window for SMEC policy opens, the real intent of the companies will be known. The SMEC policy which meant for attracting investment from global EV manufacturers will allow those players who apply under the scheme to import completely built units (CBUs) at a 15% import duty against the currently applicable rate of 70%. The government officials told TNIE that Tesla, which had initially shown interest in setting up manufacturing units in India, attended only the first stakeholders' consultation meetings to discuss the details of the scheme. After the first meeting, they skipped the subsequent meetings. It is to be noted that US president Donald Trump has very close links with Tesla promoter Elon Musk and the latter was part of the Trump administration till recently. When asked about Musk's plans to manufacture in India, Trump had commented it would be very unfair if Musk builds a factory in India. India and the US are negotiating a trade deal and it is said that India might agree to lower tariffs on imports of cars, which varies from 70-10%. Under the India-UK trade deal, which was concluded recently, India has agreed to reduce the tariff on cars to 10%. However, small EVs have been kept out of the purview of the deal.

Ward 38 councillor C Saranya, who belongs to the ruling DMK, criticised the civic body's inefficiency in addressing grievances. She said the civic body does not have the proper equipment to clear the silt from the UGD. 'How can they address the bigger issues that would affect residents,' she asked. AIADMK floor leader G Sankar told TNIE, 'Actually the corporation is struggling with a small number of staff to carry out even their regular duties. When this is the case, how can they address the grievances of residents.' Other councillors also echoed the same view and said that an acute staff shortage in all departments prevented the corporation from addressing the grievances of the public. However, in some cases, residents said the system helped fix accountability on officials and get issues resolved faster. Speaking to TNIE, Murali Deskian of Thiruchendurnagar 2nd Street, who raised a grievance on drainage overflow, said earlier it would take a few days to resolve such complaints but now it was addressed within five hours. 'I wish the same kind of response is maintained for all complaints across the corporation limits.' The officials said that according to the SoP, the grievance is first forwarded to field staff to attend, then to supervisor-level officers to ensure it is addressed, and finally it would be cross-checked by senior officials like assistant engineers. A senior TCMC official said the ICCC allows real-time tracking of civic issues and it helps in improving accountability across departments. 'By integrating service requests and responses, we aim to bring efficiency and transparency to urban governance. Public feedback helps us identify lapses and improve further,' the official said.

Stationed at disadvantage
On May 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 103 railway stations redeveloped under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), of which nine were from Tamil Nadu, renovated at a cost of Rs 66 crore. While the scheme, launched in 2022, intends to redevelop over 1,300 stations in a phased manner, a key necessity of making these stations accessible to persons with disabilities (PwDs), which ought to have been taken on priority, has been largely given a miss in the nine stations in Tamil Nadu. This is despite the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act making it mandatory for all government buildings to be disabled-friendly and ABSS including the same in its scope of work. Equipped with a checklist created with the support of the Freedom of Movement Support Coalition, a pan-India organisation working on transport equity, reporters of TNIE visited all the nine stations, often accompanied by PwDs, to check the improvements done in terms of accessibility. Much to the disappointment, the reporters found that toilets were inaccessible or locked in all stations, Braille signs to help visually-impaired persons were absent in all stations, only one platform had step-free access in all stations, getting a wheelchair remains a struggle in eight stations, and tactile warnings were not installed as per standards in at least seven stations. Non-availability of space and budget constraints was often cited as the reason for lack of lifts or bridges with ramps. However, even minor inexpensive things were not installed. For instance, improper installation of hand railings, lack of access to wheelchairs at the entrance, and non-availability of designated parking spot, were noticed in at least five stations, indicating inadequate consultation with PwDs during the redevelopment planning. Another indication of the same was the installation of polished granite flooring in many places, including ramps, which can make them unsafe for not only PwDs but also the elderly. Here is a status check of all the nine stations. Officials from Southern Railway said works will continue under ABSS, and issues in any stations would be addressed at the earliest.
