Jason Isaacs approves of Johnny Flynn casting as Lucius Malfoy in 'Harry Potter' series: 'Just please don't make him sing'

The big-screen version of the villainous Lucius Malfoy has spoken. Jason Isaacs, who portrayed the wizard in several films based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter saga, approves of Johnny Flynn being cast in the role of the father of Draco Malfoy in the upcoming TV adaptation for HBO. A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn't have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don't make him sing…#HarryPotter #JohnnyFlynn#KillTheElfEarly — Jason Isaacs (@jasonsfolly) June 9, 2025 "A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too," Isaacs posted Monday on X. "Couldn't have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don't make him sing...." The actor is known for starring in the Netflix series Lovesick, which aired from 2014 to 2018, and for the 2020 movie Stardust, in which he portrayed the late David Bowie. Flynn also appeared in the 2020 version of Emma. In the streamer's 2024 drama series Ripley, he played the ill-fated Dickie Greenleaf. As Isaacs noted, Flynn is a singer and songwriter who's released several albums and soundtracks. The younger actor is one of more than a dozen cast members headed to Hogwarts, following the phenomenal success of the movies and books following the adventures of the boy wizard and his friends attending a school of magic. Isaacs has said that he thinks he will be but a memory, if anything at all, once the new show has debuted. "I have to say, I'll milk this, because this time next year, there's gonna be another Lucius Malfoy, and he's gonna be fantastic, and I'll be long forgotten," he said in April on the Awards Chatter podcast. "So I am savoring every round of applause I get." He said he wasn't looking for compliments, but being realistic. "I'm just saying, they are making the TV series, and it will be brilliant," Isaacs said. "And I will be — just like I'm now last season's White Lotus actor — I will be the [previous] iteration of Lucius Malfoy, and that's fine by me. I've had a good run." While the cast includes other showbiz veterans, such as John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, and Nick Frost, it also features several newcomers: Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will play Harry and his closest friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Shaq Announces He's Not Watching Rest of NBA Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder played a complete game from start to finish on Sunday evening, tying the NBA Finals at one game apiece with the Indiana Pacers. The Thunder were able to defend their home court with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, getting their first win of the series after their thrilling and dramatic Game 1 loss. Advertisement The Finals have delivered on the hype so far, with stars like Tyrese Haliburton and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander putting up big numbers and making iconic moments. Basketball fans are eagerly awaiting the next game in the series, but one former NBA champion says he won't be watching. After the Thunder tied the series on Sunday night, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith joined NBA TV for post game coverage. O'Neal took the opportunity to express his gratitude that he could leave after Game 2, as Charles Barkley would join post game coverage for the next two games in Indiana. 'Indiana stole one. I'm just glad it's not the old format, that 2-3-2. Remember that format? That 2-3-2? So now we have a series. I won't even be watching,' O'Neal admitted. Advertisement The old Finals format would have resulted in three straight games in Indiana, which could have had adverse effects on Oklahoma City - the higher seed - playing three straight games on the road. 'I'm gonna be in the Bahamas," O'Neal said. His fellow panelists reminded him that he could still watch the game from his vacation, but he doubled down. 'Not in the ocean,' O'Neal said, affirming his stance. Some fans were able to enjoy O'Neal's candor as a funny moment, but some have expressed concern and outrage about how he's covered the league this season. Earlier this year, O'Neal admitted to not watching the Detroit Pistons despite the fact that they were a playoff team and had been one of the most compelling stories in basketball. Advertisement O'Neal, Barkley, Smith and Ernie Johnson will be heading to ESPN next year for a revival of "Inside the NBA." The show has come under fire for the lack of actual basketball analysis from some, but O'Neal's comments seem to indicate that more of the same could be on the way, even at a new network. LeBron James: 2020 NBA Playoffs were the 'purest form of hoops'

LeBron James: 2020 NBA Playoffs were the 'purest form of hoops' The Los Angeles Lakers' 2020 NBA championship has been derided by many people as not a legitimate championship because of the fact that it was won inside of the Walt Disney World Resort bubble during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to critics and cynics, since there were no fans and no travel, it cannot count as a legitimate championship. However, that postseason was a big challenge in other ways, mainly because of the stringent safety restrictions that were imposed on everyone who participated. It amounted to up to three months of full and total focus on playoff basketball. LeBron James, who won his fourth ring that year, expanded on the type of focus that was required during that time during a recent episode of his "Mind the Game" podcast. "I agree with what a lot of people say that it's the purest form of hoops," James said. "It was strictly basketball. We all have the ability to do whatever we want in life. We've made a bunch of money, we have all the access. That's gone in the bubble. You can't just say, 'oh, I'm about to go to a restaurant or I'm about to do this.' You can't do none of that. Everything in the bubble was strictly about basketball. And obviously we were there talking about a lot of off-the-court things that were going on, the social injustice and police brutality and all that stuff, rightfully so. But when the basketball portion was the focus, that's all it was. Of all my championships I've won, that level of focus, how long can you maintain your focus in order to get the job done? Because you have all the reasons if you want to get out of focus because you're so accustomed to a certain lifestyle that you're like, 'to hell with this, I don't wanna do this, why am I here? I don't want to be a part of this, I can't get a certain meal, I can't do this, I can't see my family, I can't lock in…' And you can very easily get out of why you're there." The 2019-20 season was initially suspended in March once the pandemic started to hit critical mass. When the bubble was announced, many were skeptical that it would work and that the coronavirus would be prevented from spreading inside of it. But thanks to those stringent restrictions, which included restrictions on family members getting it, it was a huge success. In particular, it was a huge success for the Lakers, who continued to prove they were the best team in basketball that year by bringing home the world championship.
