If deals end up closing for the two stars, production is expected to start later this year. Chazelle had been weighing several projects in recent months including an Evel Knievel pic with Leonardo DiCaprio circling the lead role. With the studio unable to make a deal for DiCaprio, Chazelle circled back to the prison drama as his next film.
As with any Chazelle feature, A-list talent is always circling given his track record; this case was no different, with Murphy and Craig high on the project following a meeting with Chazelle.
Murphy is coming off his Oscar-winning role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. He recently wrapped production on the Peaky Binders movie The Immortal Man at Netflix and was also recently seen in Small Things Like These.
Craig was most recently seen in the A24 pic Queer, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Next up, he is set to reprise his role as Benoit Blanc in the upcoming Knives Out sequel Wake Up Dead Man, which will bow later this year on Netflix.
Craig and Murphy are repped by CAA and Chazelle is repped by WME.

Very rarely will you hear Jalen Hurts talk this much about anything. Confidence as described by #Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.. How can you not love this guy? Sometimes, there is this urge to pick on Philadelphia Eagles fans and the local media. Maybe not all of them, but some of them can undoubtedly get that smoke. Jalen Hurts could win three more Super Bowls. People will still complain. Sure, we realize some of these theories come from the national media as well, but fortunately, Hurts "had a purpose before anyone had an opinion". Yes... Take that, haters! All the while, he remains humble while 'keeping the main thing the main thing'. Most guys would do anything to play at one of college football's most iconic programs. Jalen Hurts has played for two of them. Kudos to this guy for remaining level-headed. We've never been part of a Super Bowl-winning roster, but we imagine it's pretty cool. On whether that has led to a confidence boost, Hurts offered the following response. Hurts may sound like someone with 40 years of life experiences to share, but he is still 27 years old. Think about that for a second. His story is still being written. Wednesday fans, get ready for more supernatural mayhem at Nevermore Academy. Netflix has dropped a new trailer for Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, and it's teasing a darker and more intense conclusion. I've been have a very fun time watching this show! Not only is there more Hyde havoc on the horizon, but the trailer also reveals the shocking return of a fan-favorite character we thought was long gone. Sooilers ahead! Gwendoline Christie is back as Principal Weems, despite her brutal death at the end of Season 1. Viewers watched her get taken out by Marilyn Thornhill, who injected her with poisonous nightshade. With Steve Buscemi stepping in as Barry Dort, Nevermore's new principal, Weems' story seemed wrapped. But the writers have found a clever way to bring her back without undoing her death. This time, she returns as a ghostly spirit guide for Wednesday. Since Wednesday can no longer connect with Goody Addams, fans expected a new spectral presence to guide her. What's surprising is that it's Weems, considering she's not part of the Addams bloodline. But it works. As a ghost tied to Nevermore, she fits naturally into the school's eerie ecosystem. In fact, Christie's comeback was quietly teased during the show's 'Global Doom Tour' in Sydney, where she showed up alongside the cast. Netflix Australia & New Zealand even shared a clip on Instagram where Weems chillingly says: 'Did you really think Nevermore would let me go so easily? I was never gone… you just stopped looking.' It seems Weems may be sticking around to help Wednesday sharpen her psychic powers. But there's a chance she also needs something from Wednesday, some unfinished business that keeps her from resting in peace. So much for those fan theories suggesting she shapeshifted into Lurch. Outside of Weems' ghostly return, the new trailer amps up the threat of Tyler's Hyde. He's back and more dangerous than ever, and it's clear no one close to Wednesday is safe. There are also ominous hints about hidden secrets within the Addams family that are yet to be revealed. And at the tail end of the teaser, a cryptic voice that sounds a lot like Lady Gaga warns, 'Beware, there will be a price to pay.' What that price is, and what it means for Wednesday, is still a mystery. Wednesday Season 2, Part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. The second half of the season drops on September 3, 2025.

The tag line for Spike Lee's latest film 'Highest 2 Lowest,' in whichWashington stars as a music mogul caught in a ransom plot on the eve of abig business deal, had the two-time Oscar winner reflecting on past moneyjobs in an interview with CNN. 'My mother used to say, 'Do what you gotta do, so that you can do what youwant to do' – it's not the other way around,' he recalled. 'When we had four children, I was doing stuff I had to do. You go back andlook in the mid-'90s – I won't mention any movies, I'll just say the mid-'90s,around there.' 'A couple (of movies) for the kids?' chimed in Jeffrey Wright, Washington'sco-star. 'More than a couple for the kids – and the wife, and the house, and thebank, and everybody else,' Washington replied. A quick sweep of his credits around then and you'll find a few duds, sure,but there's also 'Crimson Tide,' 'Philadelphia' and 'The Pelican Brief' (surely he doesn't mean these). And at either end of the '90s, two Spike Lee collaborations, 'He Got Game' (1998) and their masterpiece, 'Malcolm X' (1992). Washington's career has been nothing if not consistently packed with gems. 'Highest 2 Lowest' is Lee and Washington's fifth film together. The actorbrought the script, a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa classic 'High To Low'(1963) – itself based on 1959 novel 'King's Ransom' by Evan Hunter – to the director, for what would be their first collaboration since 2006's 'InsideMan.' Transposing the story of a Japanese shoe executive to the New York musicbusiness, many of the key elements remain. Washington's record exec DavidKing believes his son has been kidnapped, only to learn the kidnapper(A$AP Rocky) has mistakenly taken the son of his chauffer Paul (JeffreyWright). Should King still pay the ransom, even if it drains his bankaccounts, scuppering plans for him to buy back control of his company?What was a clear-cut decision when he thought it was his own flesh andblood is muddied when it's someone else's child. Interestingly, there's more than a little of Spike Lee in David. Both arecultural titans at a stage in their careers when they're weighing their legacywith an unquenchable thirst to create. Both are balancing art andcommerce, and the event horizon of tech pulling their industries in newdirections. Both happen to have exquisite personal art collections – in fact,the production made copies of paintings by Jean-Paul Basquiat, TimOkamura and Kehinde Wiley, among others, which really do belong to Lee. But whereas Lee has embraced his industry's newest players – 'Da 5Bloods' was distributed by Netflix in 2020, and 'Highest 2 Lowest' willdebut on Apple TV+ after A24 distributes theatrically – King is a leerier oftech disruption. He rails at soulless AI-generated music, new artists tryingto gain a following on social media, and his son's Instagram addiction. 'I think we'd all be better off without those addictives in our lives,' offeredWright. 'We were promised harmony; that technology was going to make uswiser, more democratic, more peaceful. That has not been the case. In fact,it's been the opposite. I think it's something we should give some thoughtto: Where are we going with all this?' Does Washington share any of the same concerns as his character? In aword: no. 'They don't affect me to the degree that they affect the character, because Idon't rely on those things for my happiness or my peace,' he reflected. 'Idon't make money off those kinds of things.' 'I don't need to be known, you know? I like being quiet,' he added. The acting legend, who was baptized and became a minister at the end of 2024, has entered his zen era, content to reel off aphorisms about fame and filmmaking; taking shots while walking backwards into his own mystique. 'If they see you for free all week, they won't pay for you at the weekend,'he said. It's the same warning he reportedly gave to Michael B. Jordanabout the danger of movie star over-exposure. So no, don't go looking for him on Instagram, or anywhere else but the big(or small) screen. 'All those so-called Instagram accounts, if my name is connected it, you'vebeen had. You've been took.
