Target practice gone wrong: Car hit by arrow on Jalan Macalister in Penang, driver unscathed
Northeast police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the 57-year-old male driver lodged the report, and investigations confirmed that the incident occurred at 3.30pm on August 13.
'While the complainant was driving from Air Itam towards Jalan Pangkor and passing through Jalan Macalister, an arrow, believed to have come from an archery activity, suddenly lodged itself onto the right rear door of his car.
'The man was unharmed in the incident, and the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief,' he said in a statement today.
Abdul Rozak said checks revealed that an archery training activity organised by the Penang State Sports Council (MSN) was being held at the school field adjacent to Jalan Macalister, and it was halted on Aug 14 after the incident was reported.
He added that the matter was also reported to the Penang MSN and the State Education Department by the school.

KUANTAN, Aug 20 — A 55-year-old woman doctor lost RM468,000 after falling victim to an online investment scam advertised on Facebook in May. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the victim was attracted by the advertisement and was later contacted by an individual posing as a representative of Nikko Asset Management, allegedly based in Singapore. 'The suspect promised returns of 80 to 128 per cent within a month. Convinced by the offer, the victim made 14 transfers into four different accounts between June 17 and August 6, using her Employees Provident Fund savings,' he said in a statement today. Yahaya said the victim was then shown falsified profit statements through pictures sent by the suspect, indicating that her investment had grown to RM800,000, including the capital. 'The victim was subsequently asked to pay another RM152,725, supposedly for tax purposes, before she could withdraw the profits. She became suspicious and refused to comply,' he said. According to Yahaya, checks revealed that Nikko Asset Management is a legitimate investment management company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with branches worldwide, but its name had been misused by scammers in this case. The victim lodged a report at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — Bernama

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yesterday said that the authorities had busted a group of four 12-year-olds selling pictures of themselves on WhatsApp. PUTRAJAYA : Police are investigating the possibility of a mastermind behind the sexual crimes by a criminal group known as 'Geng Budak Sekolah (School Kids Gang)'. Berita Harian reported home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as saying that the investigation needed careful handling as it involved the thoughts and decisions of a child. 'This case is complicated because it involves children willing to leave school after seeing these activities as a source of income. 'At this time, we have not been able to confirm the existence of a mastermind,' he said after his ministry's monthly assembly today. Yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat, Saifuddin said the authorities had busted a group of four 12-year-olds selling pictures of themselves on WhatsApp. Saifuddin said some of the girls decided to drop out of school as they were making more money than their parents from the sale of their pictures. He said the four girls had a WhatsApp group with many members, '762 to be specific'. The investigation is being carried out by the sexual, women and child investigations division. Saifuddin said the case also used the same modus operandi as the swinger case previously uncovered by the police, and that both cases involved long intelligence processes.

Cops seize RM4.16mil worth of drugs

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police have seized drugs worth RM4.16 million and arrested three men in a series of raids in the Klang Valley and Melaka. Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department (NCID) director Hussein Omar Khan said the suspects, aged between 25 and 45 years, were nabbed on Aug 13. In the first raid at a condominium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, a Malaysian and a Pakistani man were detained after police found 26.73kg of cannabis on them and in their car. A subsequent search of a storage unit uncovered more drugs, including cannabis flowers, ketamine and syabu. In Melaka, three local suspects were arrested in Ayer Molek, where a search led to the discovery of 18.25kg of heroin base along with other substances in a car. In total, police seized 94.84kg of cannabis, 42.23kg of ketamine, 18.25kg of heroin base, 2.58kg of marijuana flowers, 810g of Erimin 5 pills and 143g of syabu. Two Toyota Estimas and a Perodua Myvi, worth about RM230,000, were also confiscated. Hussein said the drugs could have supplied an estimated 2.8 million users. One suspect tested positive for cannabis, while two others had prior criminal and drug records, he said. All three have been remanded for seven days from Aug 14 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
