Gujarat: Gir-Somnath district court gets hoax bomb threat
SP Manoharsinh Jadeja told The Indian Express that the bomb threat was received on the official email ID of the court on Monday morning, following which the court administration alerted the police.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) along with the Dog Squad and Veraval police evacuated the court premises and conducted a thorough inspection of the entire area. However, no explosives or dangerous material were found in the court premises.
About the email, SP Jadeja said, 'One line in Gujarati said that an RDX device had been planted in the court premises. While there was no reasoning given for the same, the threat appears to have been motivated by some local issue in Tamil Nadu. The Cyber Crime Cell is investigating the matter.'
This comes days after bomb threats were received by the Gujarat High Court and the Rajkot district court on June 24, when a school in Vadodara also received a threat.

Management, teachers of Ahmedabad school slapped with fine for staff's dharna over salary issue
Days after the staff of Diwan Ballubhai High School in Ahmedabad held a dharna on the campus of one of its schools, boycotting teaching work for a day over salary issues, the District Education Officer (DEO) on Thursday penalised the teachers as well as the management of the school. While the management was handed out a penalty of Rs 10,000, the teachers would stand to lose a day's salary. Citing the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009 rules, Ahmedabad (city) DEO Rohit Chaudhary ordered the school management to deposit the fine within three days. In separate orders issued by the DEO office pertaining to the school's two branches in Kankaria and Paldi, and both its Gujarati and English- medium schools, the teachers have been slapped with a penalty of unpaid one-day leave for not teaching students and going on a strike. The respective school principals have to inform the DEO office for implementation of this order within three days. On August 11, nearly 100 teaching and non-teaching staff of Diwan Ballubhai High School in Maninagar and Paldi sat on a dharna on the Maninagar campus alleging discriminatory annual increment given to them last week. The DEO, Ahmedabad (city), issued show-cause notices to the teachers and management on the same day. Citing violation of the RTE Act, DEO Chaudhary demanded a reply to the show-cause notices issued to teachers and management by Tuesday. 'Teachers quit their teaching work on salary increment issue and sat on a dharna without prior approval or intimation to this office. For their (the teachers') own interests, students had to suffer. Same goes with the management as to why they failed to resolve the issue and not discuss it with the DEO office,' DEO Chaudhary had earlier told The Indian Express. Though the management, in its response to the show-cause notice, stated that the school has introduced a 'performance-based' increment process from this year, it was penalised for failing to resolve the issue. Earlier, a flat increment used to be given to the staff of the school. This was replaced by performance-based evaluation from this year.

Faridabad Dalit youth assault: police say no threat perception as his family cries foul over rejection of gun licence
The family of the Faridabad Dalit youth who was allegedly brutally assaulted and forcefully tonsured in June has said the police have not yet provided them with security cover and denied them a gun licence. Sahil, 18, suffered a fracture, internal bleeding, and injury to soft tissue in the occipital part of the brain in the alleged assault, according to his discharge summary from a hospital. After his cousin Suraj, 32, lodged a complaint, the Faridabad police arrested the 19-year-old prime accused and apprehended two of his minor accomplices. 'We still have not received any security. I had applied for a gun licence, but the file has been marked 'not recommended'. For a gun licence in Haryana, applications are now made and processed online. I went to the assistant commissioner of police in Ballabgarh and also lodged complaints at various places. They said they cannot provide us with a gunman,' Suraj told The Indian Express. When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ballabgarh) Jitesh Malhotra said they had not received any threat perception inputs to order security cover to the family. 'The Station House Officer's report indicated no threats faced by them. Security cover is issued based on these inputs,' said Malhotra. Earlier, the family had claimed that Sahil was discharged from a private hospital despite having serious injuries, including a fracture and internal bleeding, without surgery or additional treatment. After Sahil had returned home limping after the assault, the family alleged the accused had hurled casteist slurs at Sahil. In his complaint, Suraj alleged the four accused 'kept the teenager hostage in a room… cut his hair, eyebrows, moustache and beard, turned him upside down and beat him with sticks and an iron rod'. The police had earlier said there was no caste angle. The FIR, though, invoked the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, among other charges. Sahil's family is from the Jatav caste. The medico-legal report had found that he had sustained 12 wounds, 10 of which were blunt force impact ones needing orthopaedic assessment, and two 'simple' ones caused by a sharp object.

Thieves break into retired judge's home, one stands with rod over sleeping son while others ransack room
A gang of masked burglars broke into the home of a retired judge, Justice Ramesh Garg, in Madhya Pradesh's Indore and escaped with cash and valuables worth several lakhs, police said. Days after the burglary, the CCTV footage of the incident went viral, showing the masked men ransacking a room where Justice Garg's son, Ritvik, slept. One of the masked men stood with an iron rod, ready to strike if he woke up. The men escaped with the stolen goods while the family slept in separate rooms. Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rupesh Dwivedi told The Indian Express, 'We can't say whether the son was sleeping or pretending to sleep (to avoid being assaulted). Our investigation is focused on the three masked men. There was a security guard at the gate, but they still managed to enter. We have formed teams to track the accused.' The incident occurred on Raksha Bandhan, the same day a spate of similar robberies was reported in nearby areas. Police have recovered CCTV footage from multiple locations, all showing masked and gloved criminals operating in an organised manner. The three men were spotted outside Justice Garg's home around 4 am. The thieves entered the bungalow around 4:30 am by cutting through an iron grill while a security guard was present on the premises. The CCTV footage shows the three criminals moving directly to Ritvik's room, while his wife and children slept in another room. At 4:35 am, the trio entered the house. One criminal stood guard with the rod while the others worked to break the cupboard lock. The cupboard lock broke at 4:37 am and the alarm sounded, but Ritvik remained motionless. The criminals removed cash and jewellery at 4:38 am and left the room a minute later as the alarm continued to sound. The following morning, the police were alerted, following which a team of senior officers from the district, including a sniffer dog team, was dispatched. The accused had worn gloves throughout the operation, leaving no fingerprints, police said. Justice Garg, who retired as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court in June 2010, had a distinguished judicial career spanning multiple high courts across India. He was first appointed as the Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on December 15, 1994 and a Permanent Judge on July 19, 1995. Following the bifurcation of Madhya Pradesh, he served as the First Judge & Acting Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh from November 1, 2000, to October 31, 2001. He subsequently worked as a Judge of the High Court of Patna from November 1, 2001, to February 26, 2005, before joining as a Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on February 28, 2005. Justice Garg was transferred back to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on September 17, 2007, and served as Acting Chief Justice from November 16, 2009, to December 19, 2009. He was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court on April 17, 2010 and retired on June 18, 2010.
