No one misses out as Manchester City return to training
Manchester City returned to training today.
Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that no member of the City squad was left out of their pre-season training session today. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that despite being left out of Manchester City's FIFA Club World Cup squad James McAtee and Jack Grealish have reported for training today. Both players are considered likely to leave City later this summer. But they have begun training with their teammates once again. This shows that despite their futures likely lying elsewhere they are still welcome members of City's squad.
No further updates from City training have emerged as of yet.
Outside of who joined the Manchester City squad for training today no other updates have emerged at this stage. One of the biggest points of interest surrounded Rodri's fitness. Manchester City's midfield general sustained a minor injury concern at the FIFA Club World Cup. It is believed that the injury wasn't serious. An update could potentially emerge during the week regarding Rodri's fitness.
The City squad has gotten to work ahead of the 25/26 season. There is a sense of excitement that surrounds the beginning of Manchester City's pre-season. A new season is just around the corner and City's preparations for their opening fixture against Wolves at Molineux on August 16 have begun.

Predicting 49ers 53-man roster before 2nd week of training camp begins
The San Francisco 49ers on Thursday will begin their second week of preseason practices. All of these sessions will be in pads and will likely see the first real separation in the battle for starting jobs and roster spots. Before the team begins its next trio of training camp work, we put together a 53-man roster projection based on the early training camp returns. Most of the practices have been without pads, but there's still been enough information to get an idea of what the roster could ultimately look like. Here is our first guess at what San Francisco's initial 53-man roster will be: Quarterback (2) Brock Purdy Mac Jones Notes: We may see Tanner Mordecai stick around as a third QB. For now our guess is two QBs on the 53-man roster, Mordecai to the practice squad and up on game days as an emergency QB, and rookie seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke sticking on IR for the season while he rehabs his surgically repaired ACL. Running back (4) Christian McCaffrey Isaac Guerendo Jordan James Patrick Taylor Jr. Notes: Undrafted rookie Corey Kiner could still work his way onto the roster. Special teams contributions may be the determining factor in which player scoops up the fourth roster spot. Fullback (1) Kyle Juszczyk Notes: Ever heard of him? Wide receiver (6) Ricky Pearsall Jauan Jennings Demarcus Robinson Jacob Cowing Jordan Watkins Russell Gage Notes: It's hard to envision Brandon Aiyuk coming off the PUP list any time soon. Keeping him there and giving him at least four weeks into the regular season before he's eligible to come back makes a ton of sense. Gage has put together a nice camp and found his way onto our 53-man to help offset some of the youth and inexperience elsewhere in the receiving corps. Tight end (4) George Kittle Luke Farrell Ross Dwelley Brayden Willis Notes: There's not a ton of certainty once we get past Kittle and Farrell. Dwelley gets the nod thanks to his experience. Don't sleep on Jake Tonges, though. He was with the club last year and flashed some pass-catching chops in the preseason. Blocking is always going to be the top priority for TEs under head coach Kyle Shanahan, but upside as a receiver could separate a tight race for the final TE roster spot(s). Offensive line (9) Trent Williams Nick Zakelj Jake Brendel Dominick Puni Colton McKivitz Ben Bartch Spencer Burford Austen Pleasants Matt Hennessy Notes: Reserve OL spots are wide open. Hennessy is probably their best backup center option. Bartch is firmly in the mix to snag the starting left guard job if/when he returns from a quad injury that landed him on the PUP list to start camp. Pleasants gives San Francisco a swing tackle, while Burford can play everywhere on the OL except center. Defensive line (10) Nick Bosa Mykel Williams Bryce Huff Sam Okuayinonu Yetur Gross-Matos Alfred Collins CJ West Evan Anderson Jordan Elliott Kevin Givens Notes: There's still some stuff to figure out a defensive end with room for a recent addition like Jaylon Allen or a practice squad player from last year like Jonathan Garvin to make their way into the fold. The same goes for defensive tackle where Kalia Davis could still stake his claim to a roster spot. Linebacker (5) Fred Warner Dee Winters Nick Martin Luke Gifford Tatum Bethune Notes: It isn't out of the question that the 49ers keep an extra linebacker and trim the roster elsewhere (perhaps on the D-line or tight end). For now this group is a good mix of special teams contributors with Winters stealing a starting Will LB spot alongside Warner. Curtis Robinson is also a name to keep an eye on. He's still on PUP while he rehabs an ACL he tore last offseason. Cornerback (5) Deommodore Lenoir Renardo Green Upton Stout Tre Brown Dallis Flowers Notes: Six CBs is certainly a possibility, and the back of the depth chart is wide open. Lenoir and Green look locked into starting spots. Behind them everything is up in the air. Players like Darrell Luter Jr. and Siran Neal are potential additions for special teams purposes. Safety (4) Ji'Ayir Brown Jason Pinnock Marques Sigle Richie Grant Notes: Malik Mustapha is working his way back from a knee injury. We've got him starting the season on the PUP list. Without him there's not a lot to work with at safety for San Francisco. Grant got the nod over second-year undrafted free agent Jaylen Mahoney, but Mahoney could certainly wind up snagging that final spot. Specialists (3) LS Jon Weeks P Thomas Morstead K Jake Moody Notes: All indications out of training camp are that Moody and veteran Greg Joseph are deadlocked in their kicker battle. Our assumption is that the team will lean Moody assuming all things remain equal. This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: 49ers 53-man roster projection before 2nd week of training camp

Hernández: Lakers' commitment to Luka Doncic raises questions about LeBron James' role
Near the conclusion of the news conference to address his contract extension with the Lakers, Luka Doncic detailed the training program that contributed to his striking weight loss. When he was finished talking about how he lifted weight and refrained from playing basketball for a month, general manager Rob Pelinka made it a point to offer some thoughts. 'Luka's done all the work,' Pelinka said, 'but it's important to have a support system around you to help you do the great work.' Pelinka went on to praise Doncic's trainer, Anze Macek, and physiotherapist, Javier Barrio. He remarked how Macek and Barrio have 'worked seamlessly' with the Lakers' staff. He name-checked Doncic's agent, Bill Duffy, and business manager, Lara Beth Seager. Read more: 'Just the beginning': Luka Doncic on why he agreed to a three-year, $165-million contract extension These weren't garden-variety compliments. This was a pledge of allegiance. Shortly after Doncic was traded by the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers last season, stories emerged about tensions between his inner circle and former team. Pelinka's words contained an indirect message: We will support you the way Mavericks didn't. This is your team. The commitment was formalized on Saturday, the Lakers signing the 26-year-old Doncic to a three-year, $165-million contract extension. The news conference ended with seven Lakers players and coach JJ Redick emerging from the back to take a picture with Doncic as he held up his jersey. A couple of the players, center Deandre Ayton and guard Marcus Smart, were personally recruited to the team by Doncic. Doncic is now officially the center of the Lakers' universe, and as inevitable as that seemed from the moment Pelinka acquired him, the dynamic intensifies a question that was initially raised last season: What does this mean for LeBron James? Too much shouldn't be made of James' absence from the news conference on Saturday, as Austin Reaves wasn't there either. However, James is under contract for just one more season and Doncic for at least three more, and how will James deal with not being the focal point of his franchise? James is a player who is used to exercising boundless influence over teams that employ him, enough to where the 17-time NBA champion Lakers drafted his undersized son. While the Lakers once had visions of Anthony Davis replacing James as the face of their franchise, the imaginary baton was never passed. The Lakers didn't make as big a deal of Davis' extension two years ago as they did with Doncic's on Saturday, for which a Doncic-themed photo gallery was erected for the news conference. There's an uneasy feeling about the situation, in large part because James hasn't clearly communicated his thoughts. When James exercised his player option for the upcoming season, his agent said that because James wanted to play for championships and the Lakers were 'building for the future,' their camp wanted 'to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career.' The 40-year-old James will have a say in what happens, as his deal includes a no-trade provision. Asked how James viewed the Lakers' summer and whether he thought James would retire with the team, Pelinka replied, 'So all the interactions we've had with LeBron and his camp, [agent Rich Paul] in particular, have been positive and supportive. So very professional and Rich has been great. The dialogue with him has been open and constant. 'In terms of LeBron's career, I think the number one thing we have to do there is respect he and his family's decision in terms of how long he's going to play. I think that's first and foremost and we want to respect his ability to come up with his timetable on that. I think that's really important, but if he had a chance to retire as a Laker, that would be great." In other words, there wasn't enough clarity for Pelinka to be able to say with any degree of certainty, yes, he thought James would retire a Laker. Doncic accepted an offer from the Lakers to be their next headliner. That was an important development for them. But for them to be able to properly showcase their next act, they will have to close their previous one, whether it's by him accepting a supporting role or deciding to take his talents elsewhere.
