runDisney Announces Upcoming Pause to Disneyland Races, It Could Last for Awhile

Yahoo23-04-2025

runDisney recently returned to the Disneyland Resort for the first time since 2017 with the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend in 2024 and has offered events since then, including the return of Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend. Now, as we are looking ahead to some major new additions coming soon to Disneyland, runDisney has announced an upcoming hiatus for its races at the resort.
runDisney offers events at Disney World and Disneyland that include race routes that wind through the theme parks. You can see more details on the race experience from our article on participating in the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. While the runDisney events will continue to happen in Disney World next year (see all scheduled runDisney races here), races at Disneyland will be paused for an unspecified amount of time. Keep reading for more details and our commentary…

According to an update posted on the runDisney website, runDisney races will go on hiatus in 2026 after the scheduled 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend from January 29–February 1, 2026 'due to upcoming construction impacts.' runDisney shared that Disney World events and virtual events will continue to be offered during this time.
There are a lot of major projects on the horizon or already in the works for new rides and experiences coming to Disneyland. One of these projects is the Avengers Campus construction, which will double the size of the land with two new attractions, including an e-ticket multiverse Avengers ride. We also know that there is a new Coco ride that will begin work in 2026, as well as an Avatar Land coming to Disney California Adventure with a new attraction.
We're a bit surprised to see that the races are going to be paused again. Previously, the races were paused during the construction of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Park in 2017. That was also during a period when the relationship between Disney and the City of Anaheim was very tense. There were a variety of exchanges from Disney where the City of Anaheim blocked expansions.
To my knowledge, that has shifted dramatically in recent years coming out of the pandemic closure when the City of Anaheim realized how closely tied their fates were with Disneyland and the tourism tax dollars it brings in for the city. This led to the passing of the massive DisneylandForward rezoning and investment commitment.
So, it's a bit surprising to me that we would see runDisney paused again when that relationship appears to be strong and the when the Disneyland races remain popular to the point of selling out. Of course, this could all be related to construction at Disneyland for Avengers Campus and beyond or the simple fact that these races really shut down the entire city but it sure seems like they would be able to cut an interesting enough path through to continue the races.
As I wrote in my look at what the new Disney California Adventure rides are replacing, the major construction that is planned for outside the berm of the park is likely still a ways off. The previous Disneyland President said to me that they would want to push off building the new parking structure as long as possible. That doesn't quite add up with what we're hearing today that the construction is the reason for runDisney's ending in Anaheim.
Whatever the final reasoning for the runDisney shutdown, I would expect that we won't see a race here again for a little while. I would like to take that as good news that construction is going to kick into high gear at Disneyland and that once races are paused in 2026, the resort is only going to get busier with construction work.
General registration opens for this last Disneyland runDisney race weekend on April 29, 2025 at 7:00 am PT. I am sure this one will be very popular.

Meghan shares video of family trip to Disneyland for Lili's fourth birthday

The Duchess of Sussex has shared another intimate video of the family celebrating Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland. The post on Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, drawing comparisons with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The montage also features a clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Disney princess Elsa, from the film Frozen. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (@meghan) Meghan wears a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the video, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. The duchess captioned the video: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' The footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. At the time, the royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family shots over recent days to mark Lili's birthday. In one, she posted a throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself cuddling Lili. In another post, she described how Lili's relationship with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' Lili – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child – was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Marvel Rumor Reveals Doctor Doom's Master Plan in Avengers: Doomsday

A new leak hints at Doctor Doom's strategy in Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting a pivotal link between the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the next Avengers film. The report teases Doom's interest in Franklin Richards and alludes to a larger plan unfolding across multiple realities. It offers early clues about how the Fantastic Four's arrival may shape the MCU's multiverse storyline. According to a scoop posted by industry insider @MyTimeToShineH on X (formerly Twitter), 'Doom will take Franklin Richards and will use him for his plans,' referencing events expected to unfold across The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the upcoming Avengers film. This alleged development may come from the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Doom reportedly appears sitting near Franklin Richards as Sue Storm walks into the room. This scene could serve as a setup for the next Avengers film and explain why the Fantastic Four leave Earth-828 for Earth-616. Another theory suggests Doom may use Franklin's cosmic powers instead of stealing from the Beyonders. This resembles the 2015 Secret Wars comic, where Doom gains immense power until Franklin reclaims it and rebuilds the multiverse. There is also speculation that Franklin will trigger a soft reboot of the MCU after Secret Wars. The story may show Doom using Franklin's powers to reshape reality for his own vision of order. In a recent Instagram post from the set of Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. shared his character prep materials. Among them was Doom #1 by Jonathan Hickman. In the comic, Doom absorbs Celestial powers to fight a rampaging Galactus. This may hint at similar high-stakes action in the upcoming films. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Originally reported by Anubhav Chaudhry on SuperHeroHype.
