Ravi Shankar Prasad-led delegation arrives in London to convey India's stance against terrorism
London [UK], June 1 (ANI): An all-party delegation, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, arrived in London on Saturday (local time) as part of India's global outreach program to convey the country's firm stance against terrorism.
The delegation landed in the United Kingdom after completing visits to France, Italy, and Denmark, where they engaged with government officials, diaspora, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Upon their arrival, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'We are here in London. We will keep our stance on terrorism effectively, here. We believe that we will get that support here as well, the way we have received the support in those three countries.'
Earlier, during the Denmark leg of the visit, Ravi Shankar Prasad strongly responded to a group of Pakistani nationals who raised anti-India slogans outside a venue hosting the Indian delegation in Copenhagen. He dismissed the protest as an act of 'desperation' and advised people to 'ignore them with impunity'
Addressing the Indian diaspora in Copenhagen, Ravi Shankar Prasad suggested the disruption was caused by the wide coverage of the global outreach programme to convey India's firm stance against terrorism.
'I was very surprised to see Pakistanis here raising slogans...our programme is going very well...we are getting wide coverage...their handlers in Pakistan must have told them to do something. They have come here in desperation. Pakistan is a desperate country that lives in desperation. Ignore them with impunity,' Prasad said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi highlighted the unity of all Indian parties against Pakistan.
'I am from the same Shiv Sena that dug up the cricket pitch to not allow Pakistan to play a cricket match in India and with the same commitment, I'm part of the joint delegation that has come from all political parties to say that as Indians we stand one and nobody can divide us,' she said.
The Indian delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, includes BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari, Samik Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and Ambassador Pankaj Saran is in Copenhagen. (ANI)

IAS officer asks students to clean their toilets in Telangana, National SC commission issues notices
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes Sunday issued notices to the Telangana chief secretary and the director general of police regarding the alleged derogatory remarks against SC Gurukul students by IAS officer Dr V S Alagu Varshini, seeking an action-taken report within 15 days. Varshini, Secretary, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS), sparked controversy with her remarks regarding Gurukul school students in an audio clip that went viral recently. The incident occurred a week ago when the IAS officer reportedly directed school principals to incorporate cleaning duties, including tidying toilets and hostel rooms, into the students' routine at welfare hostels and classrooms. While the IAS officer stressed that there was nothing wrong with students in Gurukul schools cleaning toilets and tidying their own rooms, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former secretary of TGSWREIS Dr R S Praveen Kumar asked the chief minister if his children washed the bathrooms of the school they were studying in. While demanding her sacking, he said the officer was discriminating against Dalit students studying in the Gurukul schools. 'These orders of an IAS Officer, Dr Alugu Varshini ji are utterly outrageous and reflect the manuvadi mindset of many in bureaucracy. She is even threatening the parents who question such 'reformatory' orders!!!,' he posted on X. Stating that each social welfare school was granted Rs 40,000 per month during the BRS rule for hiring four temporary workers for cleaning tasks, she alleged that this has been stopped by the Congress government starting May this year. She further said, 'The government has also done away with having assistant caretakers in the 240 schools, forcing the students to take up the role of wardens and manage kitchens. Now the officer is Forcing children to clean toilets in schools !!' According to Kavitha, the statements go against the concept of establishing Gurukuls to protect students from marginalised communities from caste and class bias. 'This behaviour is discriminatory, exploitative, and violates basic principles of child rights and dignity. It only reflects Revanth Reddy's government's anti-poor, anti-Dalith attitude !! I demand the government to immediately take steps to remove the officer and start giving the required funds to run the social welfare schools properly,' she wrote. In the purported audio, the officer justified her statements, saying that these students hail from extremely poor backgrounds and should learn how to take care of themselves even while at home. 'If they have to do roti making, they will do roti making. Very good. They must do the room cleaning. Who will clean their rooms? Once, the sweeper will do… Why can't they clean their own toilets? What is wrong it it… This is the growing phase of a child. I cannot give luxury. Then after the 11th and 12th standards, the child will go and sit, the parents may not be there to take care of them. Saying I don't know how to cook and I know only about studies as a useless person is not acceptable,' the officer can be heard saying in the audio shared by Kavitha. In another audio, which the officer herself shared with the media, she appealed not to politicise the issue involving students and take her words out of context. Terming the allegations of a lack of sanitation staff as baseless, she said children helping parents at home is a 'normal day-to-day activity' and helps them grow as an 'aware individual'. 'If you go abroad or go to another state, you have to do your own day-to-day work. Cleaning the rooms, washing the bathrooms, and washing clothes need to be done by oneself while also focusing on studies. The sudden transformation usually takes time for children. These are certain muscle memories,' she added. The officer was not available for a comment despite repeated attempts. Complaint filed against Kolkata man who lodged FIR against Sharmishta Panoli
KOLKATA: A police complaint has been filed against a 30-year-old Kolkata resident, whose May 14 complaint led to the arrest of a 22-year-old law student for a social media post from Gurugram, people familiar with the matter said on Monday. Sharmishta Panoli, a law student and a social media influencer, was arrested by a team of Kolkata Police from Gurugram in Haryana on May 30 on charges of spreading communal hatred. She was produced before a Kolkata court and remanded in judicial custody till June 13. Panoli's arrest on Friday night was made on a complaint filed by Kolkata resident Wazahat Khan Qadri Rashidi with the Garden Reach police station and ignited a political row, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticising Panoli's arrest on the ground that she had already deleted the video and apologised for it. As the Kolkata police defended its decision to arrest her, a Kolkata resident Prasun Maitra on Monday filed a formal complaint against Rashidi for the two now-deleted posts on the social media platform X, which he said, hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Maitra, who emailed his complaint to Kolkata police commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma and other top officers, also attached screenshots of Rashidi's posts. 'Your recent activism shows that you are very much against such communally instigating posts and determined to enforce the rule of law. In view of the above, you are requested to initiate appropriate legal action against the person, described above, in line with your recent activities and as per law of the land so that your integrity doesn't come under any question,' said Maitra in his complaint. Maitra followed up on his complaint several hours later, noting that the police were yet to register a first information report (FIR) on the basis of his complaint. Asked, a senior Kolkata police officer said appropriate action will be taken by the police. Harikrishna Pai, deputy commissioner of police (Port) said Maitra's complaint will be looked into and action taken according to law. 'Whatever complaint we get, we will definitely take legal action. He (Maitra) has sent his complaint to several officers,' Pai told HT. Garden Reach police station is in the Port Division of the Kolkata police. HT made repeated attempts to contact Rashidi, but his mobile phone was switched off. Rashidi filed his complaint against Panoli on May 14, identifying himself as general secretary of the Rashidi Foundation based at Paharpur Road. The FIR was registered on May 15 after Tanmoy Samui, the officer-in-charge of Garden Reach police station directed sub-inspector P Tamang to register the case and asked inspector N Akhtar to 'take up the investigation.' HT has seen a copy of the first information report (FIR) registered on May 15 under sections 196 (1) (a), 299, 352 and 352 (1) (c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. HT tried to contact Tanmoy Samui to enquire why Panoli was booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. But the duty officer at the police station said Samui was not available. Inspector N Akhtar, the investigating officer, could not be contacted either. When many social media users criticised Panoli's arrest, the Kolkata Police defended its action on X on Sunday. In a post, police said some social media accounts were spreading false information that Kolkata Police had unlawfully arrested a law student for opposing Pakistan. 'This narrative is mischievous and misleading. Expressing national pride and patriotism is a thing that every citizen and organisation stands for. Kolkata Police being no different, stands firmly with the citizens of India,' the post said, It added that the Panoli case was registered 'on the basis of allegations that she posted a video which was insulting to the religious beliefs of a class of citizens of India and amounted to promoting disharmony and hatred between different communities. 'The case was registered under appropriate sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case was duly investigated and, adhering to legal procedures, several attempts were made to serve notice u/s 35 of BNSS to the accused but everytime she was found absconding,' the Kolkata police said. 'Kolkata Police acted lawfully according to the procedure established by law. The accused was not arrested for expressing patriotism or for personal belief; legal actions were taken for sharing offensive content which promotes hatred among the communities,' it added.
