Elderly patient allegedly punches female paramedic who was trying to help him
An elderly man has been detained after allegedly punching a female paramedic in the back of an ambulance after she tried to offer him help.
Police were called to the intersection of Bunnerong Road and Daunt Avenue in Matraville, in Sydney 's east, about 3.50pm on Friday following reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers asked for help from NSW Ambulance to treat an allegedly intoxicated 66-year-old man.
Paramedics assessed the man at the scene and began transporting him to Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick when the alleged assault occurred.
Police allege the man threatened a 24-year-old female paramedic while inside the ambulance before he began to punch her in the torso and arms.
'Police immediately attended and assisted paramedics taking the man to hospital under police guard,' NSW Police said in a statement.
'The 24-year-old paramedic did not require treatment.'
Police then made inquiries before the elderly man was released from hospital and taken to Mascot Police Station.
He was charged with assault frontline health worker no actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

School staff were said to be 'blindsided' by the decision, which was not even officially announced to students who were left in the dark over his sudden disappearance. The school insider claims it may stem from an entirely separate case to Lane's conviction, which can't be discussed for legal reasons. 'Nothing has been said and the kids were all left scratching their heads wondering where he had gone,' the insider said. 'Most found out in the media and still don't really understand it. 'Patrick is a bit lost now. Being a sports teacher is all he has ever known and not to have that each day is a massive adjustment. 'He has never been warned about his relationship with Keli before.' Mr Cogan was Lane's childhood sweetheart and the pair grew up together in Sydney's northern beaches and dated as teenagers, reuniting years later. He was already a key part of Lane's life when she concealed a series of five pregnancies between the ages of 17 and 24. The couple reconnected and began dating again while Lane was under police investigation. He was by her side when she was arrested in 2009 for murdering her baby daughter Tegan in 1996. She left the hospital with the baby in secret and returned home alone hours later, but claimed she had given the child to its father, a mystery man called Andrew Norris who proved untraceable, and she never saw either again. Mr Cogan sat in the public gallery almost every day during her four-month trial and sent her long-stemmed roses when he couldn't attend. 'The silver lining is that Keli now gets weekend release and that's been his focus, building their relationship on the outside,' the source said. 'They are like a couple of giddy teens in love. Keli has been supporting him and he is so grateful for her. The insider added: 'If anything, a lot of his peers see his loyalty as a testament to his character. 'All these years on, they are still together and that says a lot about their relationship.' Mr Cogan has since lodged a complaint against the school with the Fair Work Commission and is due to appear in court in July.

Murder probe after death of man attacked in Ilkeston car park
A murder inquiry is under way following the death of a man in Police said Luke Elliott-Shircore was found dead at his home in the town on Wednesday. The force said it was understood he had been assaulted in the car park of the town's Aldi supermarket, in Manor Road, at about 16:15 BST on Sunday 25 have appealed for information about what happened to him and video footage taken in the area at the time. Det Ch Insp Jen Lovatt said: "Luke's family are aware that we have launched a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, and they are being supported by specialist officers."We believe that someone in the local community will have information about the circumstances which led to Luke's death and are keen to hear from anyone who was in Aldi car park between 16:00 and 17:00 on 25 May."

Paramedics attacked by patient throwing bricks
Seiitbek Erkin Uulu trapped paramedics Harvey Jenkins and Tom Pursey inside their ambulance in August 2024, then smashed its windows and threw bricks at them. Video footage released by the London Ambulance Service on Friday shows Uulu stomping on the vehicle's windshield while the medical workers were inside. The paramedics said the situation became 'like a horror movie' after they had initially tried to assist Uulu, who appeared distressed. Uulu pleaded guilty to assault of an emergency worker, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly, receiving a fine, a four-month alcohol abstinence order, and 150 hours of community service.
