Venus Williams, 45, announces shock US Open comeback after two years without competing in a Grand Slam
World No577 Williams was given a spot in the main draw of her home Major at the age of 45.

It means she is set to feature in a record-extending 25th US Open singles tournament which gets underway on August 24.
And the veteran remains on course to be the oldest singles star to take to the court at Flushing Meadows for 44 years.
In 1981, Renee Richards played at the age of 47.
Many expected Williams to retire from tennis this year, having not competed between March 2024 and July 2025 due to health struggles - she needed surgery to remove fibroids from her uterus a year ago.
Her last win was way back at the Cincinnati Open in August 2023.
However, she accepted a wildcard for the Washington Open last month and stunned then-world No35 Peyton Stearns to win 6-3 6-4.
US Open, where the prize money stands at a record $5million [£3.7m].
Williams made the final on her debut at the Grand Slam event way back in 1997, losing to Martina Hingis.
She was crowned champion in 2000 and 2001, beating sister Serena in the latter.
But from the French Open 2002 to Wimbledon 2003, Venus reached five Grand Slam finals - and lost them all to her younger sibling.

Venus - a five-time Wimbledon winner - will also take part in the controversial mixed doubles event in the week before the singles draws get underway.
Doubles specialists have been sidelined with a new, faster format and high-profile singles players teaming up - including Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz.
Williams received a wildcard entry alongside compatriot partner Reilly Opelka.

August 16 - Dominic Canzone delivered the tie-breaking RBI single during a five-run seventh inning Friday night for the visiting Seattle Mariners, who overcame a pair of deficits to defeat the reeling New York Mets 11-9 in the opener of a three-game interleague series. The Mariners laced a team-record nine doubles and finished with 16 hits overall as they improved to 10-3 this month. Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 46th homer in the third, a two-run shot that made him the first player this season to reach 100 RBIs. He added two doubles later in the game. Caleb Ferguson (3-2), the third of seven Mariners pitchers, earned the win with a perfect sixth. Francisco Lindor was 3-for-4 with two homers -- including a leadoff shot -- and four RBIs for the Mets, who have lost 14 of their last 16. Francisco Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs while Juan Soto homered in the fourth. August 16 - Salvador Perez hit a tie-breaking home run in the fourth inning, and talented rookie Noah Cameron yielded one run while pitching into the sixth, as the Kansas City Royals extended their home winning streak over the Chicago White Sox to 12 games with a 3-1 victory on Friday night. Perez broke a 1-1 tie with his solo shot off Aaron Civale (3-8), then scored an insurance run via Adam Frazier's double in the sixth for the Royals, who have outscored the White Sox 59-13 during the club's longest home winning streak against any opponent. Maikel Garcia also had a run-scoring single for Kansas City, which has won five of six at home. Cameron (7-5), meanwhile, had his home scoreless innings streak end at 19 1/3 innings when he allowed Lenyn Sosa's two-out homer in the fourth. The left-hander gave up five other hits over 5 1/3 innings. Carlos Estevez struck out the side in the ninth for his 31st save. Civale allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings for Chicago, which has lost nine of 11. The White Sox last win at Kansas City came on Sept. 6, 2023.
