Wrexham 'well above' expectations
Andy Morrell says Wrexham cannot afford to lose at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday (15:00 GMT) - but says the club are currently "well above" where he expected them to be this season.Phil Parkinson's side were beaten 2-0 at Reading on Tuesday as they missed the chance to rise above Wycombe into second in League One.But they could move into the automatic promotion spots with victory against the Chairboys, although former Wrexham player and manager Morrell feels the game at Adams Park is a must-not-lose for Parkinson's side."They can't lose the game," he told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast."They need to take something out of this game."Wycombe have got 10 games left after [Wrexham] and six of those are against top-nine teams, so it's very much in our hands."We've got to just go there and play. Go and do what they've done all season which has been fantastic and well above where I expected them to be and try and get something out of the game."Following a hectic schedule of late, Parkinson has suggested he will rotate his squad for the contest with Mike Dodds' outfit.And Morrell praised Parkinson for the way he has kept his talented squad happy during his tenure in north Wales."I think that's his hardest task," added Morrell."He's done it brilliantly for the past two-and-a-half years because we've had a really good squad and he keeps adding to it so the depth is crazy. "You keep everybody happy because the team is winning. They've done ever so well, to be right in contention with 10 games to go, I think everybody would've taken that at the start of the season."

Wrexham athletes have impressed during parkrun events
Fourth-placed finishes were achieved by Connor Rogers (21.45) and Ellis Jones (9.05) at the Llangollen and Alyn Waters junior events respectively. Evelyn Roberts (14th in 10.48) was the other Wrexham racer at Alyn Waters, with Charles Ashley (28th in 29.13), Peter Howell (60th in 34.43) and Alexis Baty (64th in 39.31) also tackling the Llangollen race. Rachel N Reeves (214th in 50.33) competed at Prestatyn Nova and Mike Robbins (23rd in 25.42) took on the Wepre race, while Steffan Thomas (49th in 24.41) and Gruffydd Thomas (50th in 24.42) had a great battle at the Park in the Past event. They were joined at the race by Deiniol Thomas (124th in 30.16). Jonny Hudson (12th in 22.37), Rhys Hatfield (35th in 25.51) and Megan Hatfield (42nd in 26.15) were the leading Wrexham AAC finishers at Erddig. They were followed by Peter Hughes (44th in 26.31), Karl Moore (80th in 30.10) and John Tipping (179th in 58.49). Deestriders are organising a series of off-road four-mile multi-terrain races from Rowleys Drive, Shotton on Thursday, July 3 (7.30pm start), Thursday, August 7 (7.30pm), and Friday, September 6 (7pm).

Wrexham keeper Okonkwo looks forward to the Championship
The former Arsenal goalkeeper was a key component in the Reds gaining promotion from League One, boasting the second best defensive record behind champions Birmingham City. Wrexham will line up with the big-spending Blues, in addition to the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town - all relegated from the Premier League - when the new campaign kicks-off in August. Looking ahead to the season, Okonkwo told Amanpour and Company: 'I said the same thing last year. For me, it doesn't make sense to hope for 10th or 12th. I'm always going to have that mentality that we're going to go for promotion. 'But, yeah, I think everyone should be positive and we're going to try and go for it again. 'Obviously, this year, it's much more challenging, but it just doesn't make sense in my mind to think about finishing in the middle when there's so much higher you can aim for.' Since making the move to The Racecourse, Okonkwo has been part of two promotion-winning sides. On loan from Arsenal in 2023-24, Okonkwo was a real fan favourite between the sticks as Wrexham finished as runners-up to Stockport County in League Two. Fast forward to the League One campaign and despite suffering a broken wrist, Okonkwo still managed 34 league appearances as the Reds made it back-to-back-to-back promotions. The forthcoming campaign will be Wrexham's first in the second tier for more than four decades - and it is a new division for Okonkwo. 'It's hard to prepare for a league I've never played in before,' he stressed. 'But, the most I can do is, obviously, increase my training this summer, to make sure I'm physically ready. 'That's the most important thing and then, yeah, you know, the manager will have plans in place on how we can achieve big things this season and what we need to do, and taking those things on board. 'I think the biggest thing is adaptation, being able to adapt from League One up to the Championship, because it's a huge shift and I think, you know, with the manager, the players he brings in, the players we have, I have full confidence going into next season.'

OAKMONT, Pennsylvania, June 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Open began under partly cloudy skies on Thursday at challenging Oakmont Country Club where Bryson DeChambeau hopes to make a fast start to his title defence while tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler was hours from teeing off. Amateur Matt Vogt, a former Oakmont caddie and current full-time dentist who qualified for the U.S. Open last week, had the honour of hitting the tournament's opening tee shot from the par-four first hole. Two-times U.S. Open winner DeChambeau, who went close at the year's first two majors, will set out at Oakmont in the company of British Open champion Xander Schauffele and Spain's Jose Luis Ballester at 7:29 a.m. ET (1129 GMT). World number one Scheffler, who counts the PGA Championship among his three wins in his last four starts, will head out in the company of two-times major winner Collin Morikawa and world number 14 Viktor Hovland at 1:25 p.m. ET. Oakmont, a quintessential U.S. Open venue where punishing ankle-high rough frames narrow fairways that lead to slick greens, is expected to be a brutal test of skill, mental toughness and resilience this week. Rory McIlroy, who has struggled off the tee since completing the career Grand Slam of golf's four majors with his Masters win in April, is scheduled to start from the 10th tee at 7:40 a.m. ET in the company of Shane Lowry and Justin Rose.
