Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have cast Ranveer Singh as the lead in Don 3, taking over from Shah Rukh Khan.
News18 Showsha was the first one to report that Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have roped in Ranveer Singh to play the titular character in Don 3. The baton was passed on to the Ram-Leela and Padmaavat actor from superstar Shah Rukh Khan and while many felt that the former won't be able to do justice to the part, others were excited to see Ranveer in this brand new role. Having said that, an announcement video featuring Ranveer was unveiled in 2023, which created a lot of ripples.
The film, which was supposed to go on floors last year, went on to face multiple delays due to a variety of reasons. One of them being Farhan kick-starting the shoot of 120 Bahadur. Keeping up with his commitment to the makers of the film, he wanted to wrap it up before taking Don 3 to the floors. But seems like the time for the shoot of the much-awaited film is almost here!
A well-placed source exclusively tells us, 'Farhan is nearing the end of 120 Bahadur. Ranveer has also finished shooting for a major portion of Dhurandar. And so, they wouldn't want to wait any longer before beginning filming for Don 3. The first schedule is scheduled for September this year. Both Ranveer and Vikrant Massey, who plays the antagonist, will be a part of it." However, it's still unclear if the female lead will be a part of this schedule.
But this also means that Vikrant will start shooting for Dostana 2 next year. Earlier, a source had told us that his schedule for Karan Johar's film is dependent on Don 3 and that if the latter doesn't start this year, then Vikrant would shoot for Dostana 2 in September. As for the female lead of Don 3, there's still some certainty, but it's Sharvari and Kriti Sanon who are in contention.
A while back, Farhan had stated that Don 3 is sure to go on floors this year. Interestingly, this film will also mark Ranveer and Vikrant's reunion after Dil Dhadakne Do. The duo had shared screen space in Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera in 2013 too. However, this is the first time that they'll be seen locking horns onscreen. 'Be assured that there will be a lot of stylised action sequences, including bike chases, between the duo. Vikrant, who has pretty much been the darling of heartland cinema, will be seen in a brand new avatar in Don 3, leaving fans surprised," our source adds.

'Housefull 5': Director Tarun Mansukhani REACTS to film being trolled for objectifying women – 'There's a lot of scrutiny on social media..'

's comedy film 'Housefull 5' may be smashing box office records, but not everyone is cheering. A section of the audience has criticised the film for being 'sexist' and objectifying women. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Many on social media have pointed out that the film is full of sexual innuendos and relies heavily on female characters for 'skin show'. But director has responded to the criticism—and he's not holding back. 'There's a lot of scrutiny on Social Media' In a chat with News18 Showsha, Tarun shared that he sees the online chatter as a positive sign, especially because it means people are reacting to the film. 'I feel like that there's a lot of scrutiny on social media. I also believe that scrutiny tends to only happen on successful films. You tend to keep quiet if a film isn't working at all. That's when no one has any opinion and they don't say anything. So, when people are making noise about my film, I actually feel very happy about it,' he said. He added that viewers seem to be watching the film with a certain kind of mindset, and they are choosing to highlight only a specific side of it. 'It means that they're watching it with a certain eye and sensibility. You can scrutinise it. That's fine. You've paid money to watch it and so, you get to have an opinion on my film. It's not a placid film about which you don't care or have an opinion. For those who're calling it out, I want to say that it's your choice of seeing and focusing on that aspect of the film," he added. Soundarya Sharma trolled for her role Soundarya Sharma in particular has found herself in the middle of a social media storm. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Trolls have criticised her decision to act in 'Housefull 5', calling her role nothing more than an excuse for glamour and 'skin show'. Some viewers feel that the film is too similar to adult comedies like 'Grand Masti', where the female characters are only present for visual appeal. However, the director feels this view ignores the actual role women play in the plot. 'The actual plot is driven by women' Mansukhani strongly defended the female characters in 'Housefull 5', saying they are the ones who push the story forward. Tarun says, 'Akshay decides to play Jolly and he comes to know that there's a missing son. So, he hires the character of (Fakhri) and asks him to join him on this search. One thing leads to another and they decide to backstab together. It's Sonam (Bajwa) who backstabs Riteish (Deshmukh) and helps further the plot, that in turn helps bring a third Jolly. The actual plot is driven by women – to get the money. There's a Soundarya who's equal parts a suspect in this entire thing because she's busy transferring funds into an offshore account.' By walking through the plot twists, he explained that the women in the story are far from being background characters—they play key roles in shaping the storyline. He added that the audience is free to interpret the film however they want, but there is more to it than just surface-level humour. 'One may choose to see a sexist side to it but I feel that I've done a lot more. If people haven't seen the film, how will the plot details transfer to them? And when they see it, it's the audience's choice to focus on whichever aspect they want to," he said. Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 Surpasses Salman Khan's Sikandar at the Box Office

Housefull 5 Director Reacts To His Film Being Called 'Sexist': 'Plot Is Driven By Women'

Last Updated: Director Tarun Mansukhani hits back at trolls and call Housefull 5 a film 'driven by women'. He adds that those calling it 'sexist' are choosing to view the film from that lens. Akshay Kumar starrer Housefull 5 maybe breaking all box office records but it's not sitting well with a certain section of audiences. Many took to social media to slam the film for its portrayal of women and objectifying them. Soundarya Sharma, particularly, has been at the receiving end of incessant trolling for choosing to do a film that's all about 'skin show' and makes her look like an 'eye candy'. Others criticised the makers for its dialogues laden with sexual innuendos, vulgarity, thus comparing to adult comedy films like Grand Masti. But director Tarun Mansukhani remains unfazed. Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, he says that he's choosing to look at the silver lining. 'I feel like that there's a lot of scrutiny on social media. I also believe that scrutiny tends to only happen on successful films. You tend to keep quiet if a film isn't working at all. That's when no one has any opinion and they don't say anything. So, when people are making noise about my film, I actually feel very happy about it," he opines. Tarun hits back at detractors and says that people who're expressing dissent are deliberately choosing to focus on objectification. 'It means that they're watching it with a certain eye and sensibility. You can scrutinise it. That's fine. You've paid money to watch it and so, you get to have an opinion on my film. It's not a placid film about which you don't care or have an opinion. For those who're calling it out, I want to say that it's your choice of seeing and focusing on that aspect of the film," he remarks. Defending the women in the film, he states, 'Akshay decides to play Jolly and he comes to know that there's a missing son. So, he hires the character of Nargis (Fakhri) and asks him to join him on this search. One thing leads to another and they decide to backstab together. It's Sonam (Bajwa) who backstabs Riteish (Deshmukh) and helps further the plot, that in turn helps bring a third Jolly. The actual plot is driven by women – to get the money. There's a Soundarya who's equal parts a suspect in this entire thing because she's busy transferring funds into an offshore account." As for the men in the film, Tarun refers to them as 'flawed characters'. 'They aren't placid characters. In a murder mystery, nobody is a good person. Everyone is a bad person and that's what the endeavour was because they're all suspects and if they ethically or morally bad enough to commit murder, is the question. One may choose to see a sexist side to it but I feel that I've done a lot more. If people haven't seen the film, how will the plot details transfer to them? And when they see it, it's the audience's choice to focus on whichever aspect they want to," he points out. First Published:

‘Surprisingly, Shanaya's not bad': Fans react to Shanaya Kapoor-Vikrant Massey's Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan song Nazara

Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor's cousin sister Shanaya Kapoor is finally following in their footsteps, getting her dream of shining on the silver screen as an actor. After her initial debut film Bedhadak was shelved, Shanaya is now beginning her acting career with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, opposite Vikrant Massey. After a teaser which left netizens quite impressed, suggesting that Vikrant is blind and Shanaya opts to go blind in love, makers have now dropped the first song, titled Nazara. Well, this Vishal Mishra track is sure to tug at your heartstrings. When the teaser of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan released, some netizens were confused and wondered who was blind in this love story — Shanaya Kapoor or Vikrant Massey. But the song Nazara has in some ways clarified that Vikrant is visually impaired whereas Shanaya chooses to wear a blind fold. But we will have to wait for the film to confirm the same. For now, netizens are truly enjoying Vikrant and Shanaya's onscreen chemistry, especially praising the latter for her promising performance. Some netizens are pleasantly surprised by star kid and debutante Shanaya Kapoor. For instance, one social media user shared, 'Surprisingly she's not bad in this song. Her expressions and acting are actually above average, way better than I expected,' whereas another wrote, 'Song is okay. Shanaya looks better than Ananya I feel.' A comment read, 'Oh loved this song.. also Vikrant really looks blind and Shanaya is promising.. let's see,' whereas another netizen shared, 'It would be crazy if shanaya turns out to be the better actress among nepo gang - jandvi, sara, ananya, suhana, rasha and khushi.' But there are also some internet users who still have their reservations. One such netizen claimed, 'How are people calling her acting above average when they can't even see her eyes? 90% of expressions come from your eyes and the best actors are the ones who can emote well through their eyes,' whereas another wrote, 'shanaya also probably has her eyes covered in more than half the movie it seems , so people can't judge her lack of expressions.' Are you looking forward to Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan's release on July 11?
