Neeraj Chopra Classic has been rescheduled to July 5 in Bengaluru, after cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan finally drew to a close.
In what has come as good news for athletics enthusiasts across India, the Neeraj Chopra Classic has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 5, after the earlier date had to be cancelled due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan last month, which delayed the Indian Premier League as well.
JSW Sports, the organisers of the event, announced the new date on Tuesday.
The NC Classic is the first edition of the tournament, approved by World Athletics, and will see some of the biggest names from the world of javelin take part in the event in Bengaluru.

'Bringing the Neeraj Chopra Classic back this quickly has taken an enormous collective effort and we're happy to confirm its return on July 5. Our teams have worked tirelessly and the unwavering support from the Athletics Federation of India, the Karnataka Olympic Association, the Government of Karnataka and our partners made this possible," Karan Yadav, chief commercial officer of JSW Sports, said.
'The energy around this event is bigger than ever and we're set to deliver a celebration of javelin that's bolder, better and even more unforgettable," Karan added in his statement.
The upcoming event will see a brilliant lineup, including Grenada's two-time world champion Anderson Peters, Germany's 2016 Olympic gold medallist Thomas Rohler and Kenya's Julius Yego.
India's first-ever international javelin throw competition, which was scheduled for May 24, is being organised by double Olympic-medallist Neeraj in collaboration with JSW Sports and sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India.
The star-studded 12-man event, to be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, will feature seven of the best javelin throwers in the world and five Indians, including Neeraj.
The other four Indians are Asian championships silver-medallist Sachin Yadav, Kishore Jena, Rohit Yadav and Sahil Silwal.
The event, which was granted category A status by World Athletics, was shifted to the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru from the original venue of Panchkula because of inadequate lighting for live telecast.

‘We didn't need words': AB de Villiers pens heartfelt note of RCB, Virat Kohli and fans

Bonafide Royal Challengers Bengaluru and South Africa legend AB de Villiers played for the franchise for 11 years but never lifted the Indian Premier League trophy till the day he left them. But on June 3, he got the opportunity to get his hands on the coveted trophy after Virat Kohli invited him to take part in RCB's victory celebrations after the franchise finally won their maiden title after a long wait. The Protea icon on Thursday shared an emotional love letter to the fans and the franchise on his social media, detailing what it means for him, the team and Kohli to finally lift the elusive trophy. 'Dear RCB Family, last night was something words will never fully do justice to you. But I'll try because the heart deserves to speak when it's full. As I walked into the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the sun had already dipped below the skyline, but it felt like the red of RCB still lit up the horizon. A neutral venue, they said. But when I heard the roar, saw the jerseys, the flags, the faces painted with red and gold, I knew this was home,' he said. A Letter to the RCB Family 💌 Written on 4 June 2025 En-route from Ahmedabad to Johannesburg, SA ✈️ #RCB — AB de Villiers (@ABdeVilliers17) June 11, 2025 'Somehow, even in the West of India, it felt like we were back at the Chinnaswamy. What I witnessed was not just a cricket match but a culmination. A culmination of belief, heart breaks, near misses, miracles and an undying loyalty that no trophy until now had been able to reward.' 'But last night, it happened. RCB, the team that became family to me, are champions of the IPL. It feels good to say that it was a moment I had dreamed of. But even in these wildest dreams, I couldn't have imagined it. This perfect. The foundation of this franchise, the leadership, the passion, the people behind the scenes should never stop working. The fans should never stop believing all came together like never before. That's what made this so much more than just a victory. And then, as if the night hadn't already stirred every emotion, there was Virat standing at long-off right in front of me. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and that was all it took. We didn't need words. In that quiet exchange, everything was understood. The years, the near misses, the weight we both carried for this dream.' 'There were tears, yes, but more than that, there was a deep, unspoken knowing. We've shared countless innings, conversations and battles together. But the words he spoke after the game, the way he acknowledged our journey, contributions and shared memories, it touched a part of me that few things in this game ever have. That moment reminded me it's not about the numbers, it's about the connections. It's about what we leave behind in each other's stories. To see players like Rajat, Devdutt and even some of the newer faces who were just youngsters when I played, now stepping up on the biggest stage, it was surreal. I've seen their raw potential, their hunger in the nets, their excitement just to share a dressing room, and now they've turned that promise into history and I couldn't be prouder.' 'To the RCB management, to the coaching staff, to the ever-loyal fans, and to every single player who's worn this jersey, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful legacy. Even though I wasn't out there batting last night, a piece of my heart always will be. This title means more because of the journey that came before it, and for me, this will always be one of the greatest joys of my life – seeing the team I love finally lift that trophy with all my love, pride and gratitude, Your Mr. 360,'

Not BCCI, This Cricket Board Set To Give Grand Farewell To Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be a part of India's Test series against England, having retired. The players announced their retirement from Test cricket during the IPL 2025 season. Cricket Australia are reportedly planning a farewell for Kohli and Rohit during India's ODI tour Down Under. The notable absentees from India's squad, as they take on England in the upcoming five-match Test series, will be stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo announced their retirement from Test cricket recently, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While the two were not given any farewell Tests in India itself, Cricket Australia (CA) is potentially planning to give them a grand send-off when India tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is later in 2025, given that it could be the last time both players play in Australia. Australia is bracing itself for a long summer of cricket, with the limited-overs India series set to be followed by the five-Test Ashes against England. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has hinted at special preparations to maximise interest for cricket during that period, and one of them could be a special farewell for Kohli and Rohit. "For the first time in nearly two decades, Australian cricket will be playing international matches in every single capital city and territory across the entire country. There's a lot of work going into bespoke marketing plans for every game in every city," Greenberg told reporters. The popularity of cricket in Australia soared with India touring the country for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, which saw record numbers turn up for events such as the Boxing Day Test. "I think we saw real momentum last year on the back of the BGT series, some record-breaking ticket sales. And I anticipate that we'll see a number of sellouts across the summer, really starting in August and going through until March. This might be a summer like we've never seen before, just in terms of the amount of content," Greenberg said. "If you think about the quality of the players coming, particularly from India, this might be the last time we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. If that's the case - who knows, it might not be - but if it is, we want to make sure we give them a great send-off and acknowledge the incredible contribution they've made to international cricket," Greenberg added. Kohli and Rohit have announced their retirement from both the longest and shortest formats of the game, leaving them active in only ODI cricket, with the 2027 World Cup surely a final aim. The limited-overs series between India and Australia, scheduled to be held in October and November 2025, could well be the last time the two veterans play Down Under. Rohit is 38 years old, while Kohli will be 37 during the series.
