2 B'deshi ‘smugglers' shot dead in Tripura
"BSF personnel were keeping a vigil along the border area, when they spotted a major smuggling attempt. As they tried to intercept, the smugglers got violent. In self-defence, the security personnel opened fire," a senior BSF officer said.
"Three smugglers received gunshot wounds and fell to the ground. While one of them died on the spot, two others were taken back to Bangladesh by their companions," he said.
They were taken to a health centre in Bangladesh, where one of them died. The other person is undergoing treatment there, he added.

A software engineer, accused of raping a woman on a false pretext of marriage, has moved the Supreme Court challenging an order of the Rajasthan High Court which directed his wife to be present in the country if he wished to travel abroad for a job. The plea, filed by advocate Ashwani Dubey, called the HC order erroneous and a violation of Article 21.(HT_PRINT) The petitioner in his plea said the high court, in a clear violation of the "procedural impropriety" and without hearing or impleading his wife, who is currently employed in the US, and ignoring that she is not a part of the criminal case, directed her to remain in India. The petition, filed through advocate Ashwani Dubey, submitted that the said impugned direction passed by the high court was "erroneous" and violative of the fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution. The matter is listed for hearing on August 8. The counsel argued that the direction suffered from procedural irregularity and legal perversity, having been passed without affording a hearing to the person affected. "He will be going for a specific period and he undertakes a specific oath before this Court that he shall make himself available for trial as and when directed, therefore, there is no question of delay in trial and also there is no question of his absconding," the plea said. The engineer was booked for rape at the Christianganj Police Station of Ajmer. Accused and the woman met online According to the petition, the accused and the woman met on an online matrimonial site and had a close acquaintance for a period of approximately four years. It was alleged that the man entered into an intimate relationship with the complainant, promising her that he would marry her. Under apprehension of arrest, the engineer moved an anticipatory bail application, which was allowed. He then moved an application before the trial court to allow him to go abroad to the USA for employment. The trial court dismissed the application, which was assailed before the high court, which allowed him to go abroad but imposed a condition that his wife must remain in India.

Two arrested for robbing small finance bank in Odisha
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Bhadrak, Aug 3 (PTI) The police on Sunday arrested two persons, including a former employee, for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery of a small finance bank in Odisha's Bhadrak district, police said. Four masked men stormed into the bank on June 11 and looted Rs 7.54 lakh at gunpoint. Following the incident, bank officials lodged a complaint at Tihidi Police Station, prompting an investigation. During the course of the probe, police recovered Rs 2,000 in cash, four mobile phones, and one vehicle used in the crime. CM Mamata Banerjee, Left slam Centre over Delhi cop calling Bengali a ‘Bangladeshi language'
Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee called it a "calculated attempt" by the BJP to undermine Bengali identity and demanded immediate suspension of the police officer along with a public apology from Delhi Police, the BJP and Home Minister Amit Shah. "Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland," he stated. However, BJP's West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya defended the police, arguing that the language used was "absolutely correct" and distinguishing between Bengali literature from India and Bangladesh. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya accused Banerjee of defending "illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" and stated that national security would not be compromised for "vote-bank politics." CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim posted the controversial Delhi Police letter on social media and mocked the department's ignorance. 'Will the illiterate @DelhiPolice explain what 'Bangladeshi language' means? Have they not heard of the 8th Schedule of the Constitution?' he asked. CPI(ML) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya also condemned the incident, saying it reflects 'majoritarian arrogance' and warned that fascism poses a threat to India's linguistic and cultural fabric. 'The persecution of Bengali-speaking workers as 'Bangladeshis' has now escalated into outright denial of Bengali as an Indian language. This is an assault on our multicultural unity,' Bhattacharya said in a Facebook post. He called for a united resistance against attempts to erode India's linguistic diversity and national integrity.
