Nitish Rana set to return to Delhi after poor stint with Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi [India] June 26 (ANI): Nitish Rana is poised to return to his home state, Delhi, after spending two domestic seasons with Uttar Pradesh (UP). The experienced batter has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and is expected to make the switch ahead of the upcoming domestic season, according to ESPNcricinfo.
'The experienced batter asked for an NOC and we have given it to him,' ESPNcricinfo was told by UPCA's chief executive officer Ankit Chatterjee
'He mentioned family reasons for his decision,' he said.
Ashok Sharma, secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), confirmed that Rana had communicated his decision to the board and has already secured the required clearance from UP.
'However, DDCA has not yet received a copy of his NOC. Only after receiving the NOC, we can say anything about the chances of him playing for Delhi,' Sharma said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.
Rana had been a part of Delhi's age-group and senior domestic setup until 2022. He moved to UP in 2023, where he was entrusted with leadership responsibilities. However, his time with the team did not live up to expectations. A dip in form last season saw him being dropped from both the one-day and first-class sides.
In the 2024-25 domestic season, Rana featured in four Ranji Trophy matches for UP, managing just 150 runs across six innings, including a lone half-century. His return in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20s were also modest 111 runs in nine games at an average of 13.87 and a strike rate of 114.43. He played only two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before being dropped due to continued inconsistency.
As the Ranji Trophy resumed for its second phase in January, Rana was omitted from the squad. His struggles continued in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, where he represented Rajasthan Royals (RR). Before a calf injury ruled him out, he scored 217 runs in 11 innings, with two fifties but no consistent impact.
Signs of a possible split with UP became clearer when he was not included in the auction list for this year's UP T20 League. In total, Rana played 10 first-class games for UP, scoring 447 runs with one century and two fifties. In seven List A matches, he managed just 72 runs, while his 16 T20 appearances yielded 314 runs, including two half-centuries. He also captained UP in six Ranji Trophy games and four Vijay Hazare Trophy fixtures during the 2023-24 season, guiding them to one and three wins respectively.
Rana's anticipated return to Delhi could be intriguing, particularly in light of an on-field spat last season with current Delhi captain Ayush Badoni during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match, which required umpire intervention. Moreover, the competition for middle-order spots in the Delhi squad remains intense.
If the DDCA officially accepts his NOC, Rana could also feature in the Delhi Premier League (DPL), slated to be held in August. (ANI)

Confirmed! Sanju Samson Set To Join New Franchise On July 5
India's star batter Sanju Samson is set to enter the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) player auction for the first time as the second edition of the T20 league gears up for action. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) will hold the KCL 2.0 auction in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5, with Samson expected to be the marquee name available. Samson Registers for KCL Auction After missing the inaugural 2024 season of the KCL due to international commitments, where he only served as the league ambassador, Samson has now thrown his name into the player pool. With a relatively clear international schedule ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Samson's participation is confirmed. The upcoming KCL season runs from August 22 to September 7, meaning Samson could be available for the playoff stages if the Bangladesh-India series (August 17 – August 31) takes place as planned. Samson's inclusion in the league is expected to be a game-changer, especially for cricket fans in Thiruvananthapuram. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain will be looking to gain valuable match practice and reignite his campaign to secure a regular spot in India's T20I side. He had fallen out of favour following a tough five-match T20I series against England earlier this year. The wicketkeeper-batter faced injury setbacks during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. For much of the campaign, Riyan Parag took over captaincy duties for Rajasthan Royals, with Sanju Samson initially featuring only as an Impact Player before being sidelined due to injury. He scored 257 runs in nine innings at an average of 35.63. KCL 2.0: Tournament Dates, Format, and Franchises The second season of KCL is scheduled from August 22 to September 7. A franchise owners' meeting took place on June 26. The six teams competing this year are: Kollam Sailors Calicut Globstars Alleppey Ripples Kochi Blue Tigers Thrissur Titans Trivandrum Royals In the inaugural season, 114 players were picked from 168 registrations, with franchises spending an average of Rs 40 lakh each. Kollam Sailors, led by Kerala domestic captain Sachin Baby, were crowned champions after defeating the Calicut Globstars in the final.

SA pacer Nortje out of action after latest injury
Johannesburg [South Africa], June 26 (ANI): South African pacer Anrich Nortje will be out of action indefinitely due to a 'stress reaction', with head coach Shukri Conrad expressing worry about Nortje's latest setback and assured that the 31-year-old will be given every chance to make a comeback. Nortje was not considered for the T20I squad featuring in the tri-nation series in Zimbabwe next month, featuring New Zealand. The pacer did not travel to the US for Major League Cricket (MLC) this year, as he was with the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) for his stint. Nortje's total of two games this year have come in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as per ESPNCricinfo. Conrad confirmed that the injury will be assessed, and Cricket South Africa (CSA) is unaware of how long he will be out of action. Nortje has endured plenty of setbacks as of late, such as not being contracted by CSA this year. He last played international cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup. A toe injury kept him away from the ICC Champions Trophy, and he could not be a part of the ICC World Test Championship-winning Proteas squad as well. This is not the first time he has spent so much time away from the game, with no action from November 2013 to November 2015, November 2018 to February 2019, and November 2021 to April 2022 due to back and hip injuries. It is also unclear which formats he will feature in on his return. 'We will have to see the length of the time that he will be out and the extent of the injury. I really feel for him,' Conrad said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. 'He is a superstar fast bowler and having to deal with setback after setback cannot be easy. We will wait to see how serious it is.' 'Naturally we are worried. In Anrich's case, this is the second or third stress reaction in his back. It is too early to make a diagnosis, and we are definitely not drawing a line through this name. He is 31 years old and we are going to give him every chance to come back. We will have to see what the medical team think is the best way forward,' he concluded. Rassie van der Dussen, a veteran of 50 T20 Internationals, has been named captain of South Africa's squad for their upcoming T20I series, which includes four uncapped players, according to the official website of the ICC. Corbin Bosch, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Rubin Hermann and Senuran Muthusamy have all received maiden call-ups after strong domestic performances. Pretorius was the standout performer in the 2025 edition of the SA20, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 397 runs at a strike rate of 166. Wicket-keeper-batter Rubin Hermann was also impressive, scoring 333 runs at an average of 41.43. The squad will assemble in Pretoria on July 9 for a two-day preparatory camp before departing for Harare on 11 July. The tri-series begins with South Africa facing the hosts, Zimbabwe, on July 14. South Africa squad: Rassie van der Dussen (C), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Reeza Hendricks, Rubin Hermann, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Andile Simelane.
