On3 makes prediction for UNC basketball and this player in transfer portal
We're just one day removed from the end of college basketball season, with Florida coming back to defeat Houston in a National Championship classic, but things are already looking up for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNC will welcome in 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, a Top-10 freshman in the 2025 recruiting class. Seth Trimble just announced his return for a fourth and final season earlier Tuesday and North Carolina will soon host BYU transfer wing Kanon Catchings, plus Michigan State point guard Tre Holloman.

While the Tar Heels have yet to host Catchings or Holloman, there's an extremely strong chance at least one of them lands in Chapel Hill.
Also on Tuesday, On3 Sports Transfer Portal Reporter Pete Nakos said there's a 100 percent chance UNC lands Catchings.
Catchings would be a massive get for North Carolina. Though he's listed as a wing (small forward), Catchings' 6'9" frame means he can also play power forward or center.
In 31 games (15 starts) for BYU during his freshman season, Catchings averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and shot 41.1 percent from the field. Catchings watched his playing time decrease over the season, though, highlighted by playing nine total minutes in two NCAA Tournament games.

After lacking consistent height across their roster last year, the Tar Heels look poised to be a much taller team for their 2025-2026 campaign. UNC landed 7-foot center Henri Veesaar from Arizona in the transfer portal, Wilson is a 6'9" power forward and 6'8" center Ven-Allen Lubin returns.
Though 100% is simply just a prediction, I love North Carolina's chances to land Catchings. Once the Tar Heels can land a portal point guard, they'll be all set.

He would be a playmaking linebacker, and also a solid fit in John Butler's defense. It paid off, with Bruce Pearl's squad racking up nation-best 19 Quadrant 1 victories on its way to the second Final Four appearance in Auburn history. While Pearl and his staff are unlikely to scheme up a schedule as difficult as last year's version, the Tigers will certainly hope to once again build up themselves before the grinding nature of the SEC season. That process, which has already included an appearance in a loaded 'Players Era' tournament field and home-and-home series contests against Houston, Purdue, and Arizona, continued this week, as CBS Sports Insider Jon Rothstein reported the Tigers are set to A-Sun program Queens to close out the 2025 portion of the schedule. The game, which is reportedly set for Dec. 29 at Neville Arena, will signal the second season in a row Auburn has hosted a team from the Atlantic Sun. Last season the Tigers beat the brakes off of in-state opponent, North Alabama, last November. The 102-69 victory was impressive at the time, but turned into an even more significant win after the Lions finished just a game shy of the NCAA Tournament last season. Queens on the other hand was not nearly as successful, although the 20-15 Royals did drive eventual A-Sun Champion Lipscomb to the brink with an 81-75 loss in the A-Sun Tournament semi-finals. Bruce Pearl's Auburn Tigers will likely be heavily favored in their final game before they ring in the new year, but the Royals, like North Alabama last year, play in a conference loaded with talent across the board. Former Wisconsin basketball center adds to his list of NBA workouts Former Wisconsin Badgers center Steven Crowl is compiling a long list of NBA workouts. Crowl, whose Badgers tenure concluded with an NCAA Tournament Round of 32 loss to BYU in late March, has reportedly worked out with the Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets over the past few weeks. The 7-foot center's most recent workout came with the Pelicans on Thursday, per The Athletic's Will Guillory. Crowl worked out alongside North Carolina's R.J. Davis, Arkansas' Johnell Davis and Kansas' Hunter Dickinson. Earlier this week, the Hornets worked out former Badger Chucky Hepburn alongside Crowl, per Hornets beat writer Rod Boone. The two spent three seasons in Madison together from 2021-24. Crowl isn't the only former Badger to dip his toes into NBA waters this offseason. Star guard John Blackwell worked out with the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trailblazers and Philadelphia 76ers before withdrawing from the 2025 NBA draft in late May. The Minnesota native started 141 of his 153 career appearances in five seasons from 2020-25. In those contests, the veteran averaged 9.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and two assists off a 52.5% shooting rate from the field, 36.3% mark from 3 and 82% clip from the charity stripe. During Wisconsin's 27-10 output this past season, Crowl started all 37 games and logged per-game averages of 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He did so while shooting 54% from the field, a strong 41% from 3 and 82% from the free-throw line. At his size, Crowl's shooting ability is an unquestionable commodity in the NBA. Given modern spacing and skill at the center position, the former Badger's progression as a shooter, especially from the top of the key, headlines his potential professional portfolio. Nonetheless, Crowl's odds of being picked in the 2025 NBA draft or signing with an NBA franchise are slim. The workouts will expose him to some NBA personnel, but his most likely route revolves around a career oversees.
