How to watch Saints vs. Chargers in Week 1 preseason game: TV, live stream

USA Today5 days ago
The first full weekend of NFL preseason football wraps up in Los Angeles where the host Chargers face off against the New Orleans Saints.
For the first time since 1994, the Chargers played in the Hall of Fame game to open up their preseason schedule. They beat the Lions 34-7 in that July 31 contest to officially start the new season.
Since then, the Chargers have had disheartening news. Franchise left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a season-ending knee injury. Los Angeles is moving starting right tackle Joe Alt over to the left side to fill in and Trey Pipkins III will fill in for Alt on the right side. None are expected to play much, if at all, in Sunday's game against New Orleans. Their depth will be tested as the team looks to solidify its offensive line in coach Jim Harbaugh's second season.
Preseason sleepers: Seven under-the-radar NFL rookies who could surprise in preseason games
The coach he replaced, Brandon Staley, will be on the other sideline for the Saints' preseason opener. Staley is New Orleans' defensive coordinator under former Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who is entering his first season as a head coach in the NFL.
New Orleans has a quarterback competition between rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough and second-year passer Spencer Rattler. That battle could spill into Sunday's game as both players could see their first live action of the 2025 NFL season. Staley's defense has lots of new faces with four new starters and a further four rookies looking for their first game experience of the year as well.

NFL to continue end zone social justice slogans including ‘End Racism' in upcoming season: Report

The NFL will continue to stencil social justice slogans in end zones for the sixth straight season, the Associated Press reported Thursday, carrying on a program that began in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests against police brutality. As has been the case in recent years, teams will be able to choose between 'End Racism,' 'Choose Love,' 'Inspire Change' or 'Stop Hate' in one end zone, with 'Inspire Change' replacing 'Vote,' offered in 2024. The opposite end zone will feature 'It Takes All of Us.' Players can also voluntarily choose to wear one of the slogans on their helmets. The NFL will also continue other end zone slogans such as 'Salute to Service,' honoring veterans, the AP reported. Advertisement 'We're working hand-in-hand with players, and alongside our clubs, to amplify player voices and underscore what is most important to them,' Anna Isaacson, the NFL's senior vice president of social responsibility, told the AP. 'For decades, the NFL and its players have been a unifying force in American culture and society that brings people of all cultures and backgrounds together to enjoy America's most popular sport.' From 2021 to 2024, the NFL featured 'End Racism' in one of the end zones during the Super Bowl, but in 2025, the league decided that Super Bowl LIX would feature 'Choose Love' alongside 'It Takes All of Us' instead. That decision faced criticism in a moment when diversity initiatives were under attack, including by the recently inaugurated President Donald Trump, who was in attendance at the Super Bowl. But NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told The Athletic in February that the decision to swap 'End Racism' for 'Choose Love' was in response to tragedies in the months leading up to the game, including a terrorist attack in New Orleans, the wildfires in the Los Angeles area and a plane crash near Washington, D.C. 'Choose Racism' had been previously featured in the NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia and will remain a stencil option this upcoming season. It's unclear which slogans will be featured at Super Bowl LX. Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle

Damar Hamlin reveals new tattoo inspired by cardiac arrest incident

Behind every tattoo is a story – and Damar Hamlin's is a doozy. The Buffalo Bills safety is showing off some new ink ahead of the 2025 NFL season, which will be his second since suffering cardiac arrest on the field in Cincinnati. His new art, created by famed tattoo artist Ganga, which covers Hamlin's entire back, works to convey everything about the happenings on the field from that January day. When Hamlin woke up following the near-fatal incident, he famously asked, "Did we win?" Those words are featured prominently on Hamlin's back, surrounded by a "Monday Night Football" logo along with words of encouragement and a "Pray for Damar" flag. Ganga also added a Paycor Stadium element to the entire display, which was famously the site of Hamlin's cardiac arrest. Coupled with plenty of No. 3's, the tattoo managed to accomplish just about every element of the incident. Hamlin's heart stopped after making a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals on "Monday Night Football" on Jan. 2, 2023. He briefly got up and then fell to the ground, prompting a rush of medical personnel onto the field. After providing CPR, Hamlin was loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. The game was suspended and postponed. In the meantime, Hamlin spent time on a ventilator before being able to talk to his family and breathe on his own on Jan. 6. It was an unforgettable moment in NFL history, one that Hamlin would never forget, especially. Now he has the entire story on his back.
