Mets Trade Idea Adds $3.85 Million All-Star Outfielder After Mark Vientos News
Mets Trade Idea Adds $3.85 Million All-Star Outfielder After Mark Vientos News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If the Mets hope to avoid a potentially deadly 'June swoon,' they're well aware that they'll be doing so without third baseman Mark Vientos. Advertisement The Mets placed Vientos on the injured list Tuesday afternoon, less than a day after he hurt his hamstring in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Former top prospect Ronny Mauricio subsequently rejoined the big-league club and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 6-5 walk-off loss. Although Vientos hit just .230 with a .678 OPS and -0.3 bWAR, his injury is nonetheless a reminder that life in the majors changes quickly—and it should incentivize the Mets to pursue a trade for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. No, Duran can't replace Vientos' presence at third. Duran, a 2024 All-Star, is a natural outfielder in his first season manning left field on an everyday basis. Boston Red Sox left fielder Jarren DuranBrian Fluharty-Imagn Images However, Duran is a dangerous bat who fits the Mets' center field hole. The speedy lefty enters Wednesday hitting .273 with 17 doubles, six triples, and a .743 OPS for a fourth-place Red Sox club. Advertisement An outfield featuring Duran, Brandon Nimmo, and the inconsistent Juan Soto sounds good to us. At least Soto is 6-for-18 with three homers and a 1.399 OPS in his last five games after a dreadful (by his standards and expectations) first two months. There is no time like the present to be aggressive. The Athletic reported earlier this week that the San Diego Padres are interested in Duran, who potentially has three seasons of team control left. Boston has a $8 million club option on Duran for 2026, and he has two years of arbitration remaining. The Mets hold a half-game lead over the rival Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East, and all signs point to it being a heated divisional race all summer. Now is the time to strike and add Duran to a lineup needing both a center fielder and one more potent hitter. Braves React to Major Drake Baldwin News on Tuesday
Braves React to Major Drake Baldwin News on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. June has arrived, and with it comes a fresh chapter in the 2025 MLB season. One team still trying to find its rhythm is the Atlanta Braves. Advertisement After dropping their second straight game on Tuesday, Atlanta slipped to fourth place in the National League East. The Braves are now 27-32, just four games ahead of last-place Miami. Still, amid a slow start, one young player continues to shine, catcher Drake Baldwin. On Tuesday afternoon, MLB announced that Baldwin had been named National League Rookie of the Month. The Atlanta Braves' social media account was quick to celebrate the news. "Your National League Rookie of the Month: Drake Baldwin!" they posted on X. Fans also congratulated Baldwin. "Drake Baldwin, future Braves hall of famer.." posted here Advertisement "RAKE Baldwin Get it right." said this fan Another fan said this: "Should be in the lineup as close to every day as possible." A fan has a message about Baldwin: "The legend continues to grow." "Braves got a stud on their hands! Congrats Drake." said here. Another excited fan: "Well deserved and earned!" Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin (30).Brett Davis-Imagn Images Baldwin marked the moment with a solo home run, his sixth of the season, during an 8-3 loss to Arizona. The blast came in the fourth inning, which turned out to be Atlanta's only scoring frame. Baldwin, 24, made his MLB debut on March 27. A Missouri State product, he was selected 96th overall by the Braves in the 2022 MLB Draft. Advertisement Through 36 games in 2025, Baldwin is slashing .321 with 34 hits, 15 RBIs, and those six home runs. He's quickly become one of the brightest spots in an otherwise inconsistent Braves lineup. Atlanta will host the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and wrap up the series on Thursday before hitting the road to face the San Francisco Giants over the weekend.
