Buzz Feed02-03-2025
Recently, Reddit user iwanttheworldnow turned to the popular r/AskReddit page to ask people, "What's your 'fucked around and found out' story?" and the answers are very entertaining. Let's cut straight to the chase — here are 30 of the best!
1. "Walking down the sidewalk in NYC with my wife, I saw a banana peel on the ground and was like, 'Why do they always show people slipping on these? How slippery can they be?'"
"I then proceeded to put all my weight on it, and totally did the legs flying up in the air, landing on my butt thing like you see in cartoons. I looked up and my wife was rolling her eyes to the point that I think she was seriously wondering how she married me."

2. "When I was 13, a friend and I hopped onto a slow-moving freight train for...kid reasons. Then we took a seven-hour ride through nowhere before it slowed down again."

3. "When I was in middle school my parents used to buy granola bars to have around as quick snacks for us kids. Well, one day they came home with a Costco-size box of Fiber One bars."
"I had no clue what fiber did; all I knew was those bars were tasty, and I had an insatiable appetite, so I went to town.
The next day at school, my stomach was absolutely killing me. I mean it felt like steel wool was ripping around my intestines. It was so bad I had to have the school nurse call my parents to pick me up."
"When my dad arrived he asked if I had eaten anything unusual, so I fessed up to mowing through Fiber One bars."
NBC / Via giphy.com
"Dad: Do you know what fiber does?
Me: No.
Dad: How many did you eat?
Me: ...Six.
Cue the absolutely maniacal laughter from my father. That was about 20 years ago, and I still haven't lived that one down."

4. "When I was a welder, we had a lot of people who thought using any kind of PPE was feminine, from old guys to brand new 18-year-olds."
"One day a guy was using the squint method to do a vertical weld and managed to splash some of the molten metal into his eyes. He's blind now, and due to not using the PPE provided he wasn't able to get worker's compensation or sue the corporation."
— u/LordofDonuts
5. "When I was a bouncer, there was a small scuffle at the bar, and I went to go steaming in. My workmate told me to slow down. I didn't listen."
"Ended up fighting a guy who played for the Leicester Tigers (rugby) and he absolutely manhandled me like I was a small child! I found out."
— u/CalCalDZ
6. "I put my finger on a hot car cigarette lighter. I didn't think it was hot because it wasn't red, it was white. Btw, this was like 45 years ago."

"I got it home, cleaned it thoroughly, and plugged it in to admire the glass panels. Great, worked fine. Then I went to move it and touched the bottom while it was plugged in (the metal base was missing a part).
The resulting shock gave me a glimpse of the afterlife, and I sat there stunned for about 20 seconds checking if my heart was still beating. Yes, it did need to be rewired."
— u/EmmelineTx
8. "I got my finger stuck in a bottle trying to get more cream out. My finger quickly became swollen and purple, and I had to go to the ER."
— u/Sims2Enjoy
"I had the rubber part of an earbud come off in my ear because I pushed it in too far. Couldn't get it out after like an hour of trying with a pair of big tweezers I have. My girlfriend couldn't either.
So I sheepishly walked into the ER and told the person working the desk what I did. She sort of rolled her eyes and called a nurse or something over. He laughed and grabbed a small forceps and removed it immediately. I think they took pity on my stupidity because they didn't take down my info or charge me. An expensive stupid tax would have been somewhat justified."

10. "Went bowling as a kid. Wanted to know why stepping across the foul line was such a big deal. That was how I learned bowling lanes were lubricated. And probably what a pulled groin felt like."

— u/Meckles94
13. "My uncle gave me some M-80s. I thought it would be a good idea to light them up and put them in a large fire ant nest to get rid of the ants. Turns out, all it does is piss them off and make them airborne. I ended up getting a nice hot shower of fire ants. I don't recommend it."

Photitos2016 / Getty Images
"As I was driving through, there were several funerals taking place, and I just thought about how morally wrong this was, and I shouldn't be doing it. But I pressed on…"
"I found a hillside to park with no one around, got out of the car, and started roaming around with my phone. About 20 seconds into looking, I heard some pound horns blowing and witnessed half the hillside explode, like giant explosions triggered one after another, 100 yards away."
Jason Armond / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images
"A giant wall of dirt and dust almost got me as I jumped back into my car. A few guys in construction outfits came up to me a minute later, asking how I got there. I pointed out the roadway, which they realized they hadn't blocked off. Nothing more was said, and I left.

I didn't realize I fucked up until after jumping in."
"There was no ladder inside the car. Just steep inclines and vertical metal. I spent the next two hours repeatedly trying to run up the incline and grab the ledge to no avail."
"Sweltering hot and exhausted, I kinda resigned myself to my fate, same as the coyote. I tried again after another hour or so, and FINALLY managed to frantically grab the ledge and climb out.
DO NOT FUCK WITH TRAINS."
28. "Got a cut on my finger working in a warehouse about a decade ago. One particular coworker made fun of me for cleaning it and putting a bandaid on. Not one hour later, he got almost exactly the same cut, but just kept working to 'show me how a man does it.'"

"The next day I come into work with a fully healed finger. He comes in with a sore red finger. After a couple days of it getting worse, he eventually goes to see a doctor.
Turns out his finger got infected. He almost got part of his finger amputated, missed time at work, and had to (mostly) pay out of pocket for antibiotics. That is apparently the 'manly' way to deal with a small cut."

29. And finally: "I was a 7-year-old at a kid's party and we all walked down to the bodega on the corner for slushies. I finished mine, and while we were all hanging out at the pool, I noticed another girl's unattended slushie."
Chatchai Tuppavasu / Getty Images
"I was still thirsty and being a greedy little shit, so I put the straw to my lips for a sip.
I just didn't realize a bee was stuck upside down in the straw, stinger first. Stinger meets lip. Swollen for days.
Greatest story of karma I've ever encountered."

Prince William's mistrust of Meghan Markle is derailing peace with Prince Harry: author

Prince William's alleged reservations about Meghan Markle are the main obstacle to a reconciliation with his estranged brother, Prince Harry, a prominent royal author has claimed. The Prince of Wales, 43, has reportedly not spoken to his younger brother for over two years — and their already-damaged bond was made worse with the release of Harry and Meghan's many money-making ventures, including a tell-all book, interview and Netflix series. After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left royal secrets spilling into the spotlight, the future king is digging in his heels, unwilling to rekindle dialogue between the two camps amid deep-rooted trust issues, according to royal commentator Ingrid Seward. POOL/AFP via Getty Images 'The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan,' Seward told Fox News. 'She's disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists of this country. They see her as being very… damaging to the royal family.' 'I think a lot of people in America feel the same,' she added. 'They don't like that Meghan [reportedly] dissed her husband's family and dissed her own family.' Advertisement Seward, who penned 'My Mother and I,' also mentioned the 'Suits' alum's ongoing rift with her own family, including her ailing father, Thomas Markle Sr. The pair's relationship became severely strained shortly before the As Ever founder's wedding to Harry, and has only continued to sour after Markle Sr. suffered a stroke in 2022. He has yet to meet his grandchildren. 4 The Prince of Wales, 43, has reportedly not spoken to his younger brother for over two years. Getty Images 'It's just extraordinary to think that her children have not met their grandfather,' Seward told the outlet. Advertisement 'I think people in the States find that extremely odd, and [we] find it very odd here. And I think that's a real black mark against Meghan's character. I think she hasn't been able to embrace… her own family, however much she feels about them. I mean, Harry's never even met her father, which is extraordinary.' Follow The Post's royal family live blog for the latest pics, news, exclusive details and more 'There are a lot of difficult emotions [to] get over there,' she added. The royal author's insights come just days after insiders told People that William and Harry are continuing down 'separate paths.' Advertisement 4 The royal author also mentioned the 'Suits' alum's ongoing rift with her own family, including her ailing father, Thomas Markle Sr. JAKE ROSENBERG/NETFLIX 'The rift is very profound and very long-lasting,' Robert Lacey, author of 'Battle of Brothers,' told the outlet. 'It will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologizes.' The Post has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment. Sources told the outlet that Harry's calls and texts to William had gone unanswered. 4 Seward added that William has 'taken a firm stance' in keeping his distance from the Sussexes. Getty Images Seward, for her part, said that William has 'taken a firm stance' in keeping his distance from the Sussexes, however claims that Harry, 40, believes his brother had been 'unpleasant' to his wife, 44, during her time in the royal fold. 'Harry thinks that William insulted Meghan,' she said. 'I think when you have that kind of animosity, it's really hard to [get around it]. I just don't see any kind of reparation. I just don't see it at this moment.'

6 Dress And Boot Combinations To Extend That Summer Feeling Into Autumn

Now that temperatures have dropped a little, I keep gazing wistfully at my autumn boots. Then again, I'm not quite ready to part from my beloved summer dresses. The good news is, you can have everything – well not everything, but, you know – since the simple formula of boots and a summer dress solves most between-season styling dilemmas, making the transition into autumn more effortless. If you thought your halterneck mini was nothing without a pair of ballet flats, think again. Its Y2K-leaning sensibility makes it the perfect match for the slouchy boots that made an appearance on the AW25 runways, at Isabel Marant, Khaite and Louis Vuitton. Hold on to your satin slip dress, too – it makes an excellent layering piece when teamed with biker boots and a slouchy knit (and jeans, on extra chilly days). It's certainly not the cowboy boot's first rodeo, as it stomps defiantly onwards into another season thanks to Altuzarra and Isabel Marant, who has long loved Western-inspired styling. Later, wear yours beneath sharply tailored trousers (as at Calvin Klein); now, slip 'em on with a white cotton sundress for late summer festivals and hoedowns. Whether you prefer an equestrian or Victoriana vibe, there is a new-season boot for you. Invest in your perfect pair and wear it right away, combining riding boots with a denim dress or lace-up styles with wafty, boho midis and maxis. Without further ado, here are six tried-and-tested dress and boot pairings for a chicer almost-autumn. You've spent all of summer wafting around town in a Chloé-esque maxi and there's no need to let autumn stop you – simply swap out your ballet flats or jelly shoes for a pair of lace-up boots, either Victorian-inspired (as seen at Bora Aksu's AW25 show) or biker-style, seen at Dior. For chillier, late-summer days, hedge your bets in a long-sleeved, A-line mini dress (in denim, depending on the temperature) and riding boots. ELLE UK's Site Fashion Editor Daisy Murray wears the combo especially well. Crisp cotton sundresses served you well all summer – continue the party into autumn by eschewing sandals for cowboy boots. Judging by Altuzarra and Calvin Klein's AW25 shows, they're not going anywhere. Last seen sometime in the early aughts, the slouchy boot was well overdue a second wind. Well, it's back with a vengeance, thanks to Khaite, Zimmermann and Isabel Marant, whose Edrik boots are perfectly in-keeping with the Y2K look of a halterneck mini dress. Reward the satin slip dress's unerring loyalty in a heatwave by styling it throughout September and into October, with knitwear and buckled boots – the chunkier, the better. Brown boots ruled the runways at Khaite, Alberta Ferretti and Fendi (amongst others) and will be a key part of your winter wardrobe. For now, we love how they look with a flippy, drop-waist dress, like this ruffled Gimaguas number.

Couple 'Devastated' After Wedding Venue Threw Out Their Cake ‘by Mistake' — and Only Issued a Partial Refund

'It's not about the money, but I'm really shocked with how they handled it," one of the newlyweds wrote of the unspecified U.K. venue on Reddit NEED TO KNOW After a U.K. wedding venue threw out a newlywed couple's cake "by mistake" after their nuptials, the pair were left "devastated" The venue offered an "apology" and a partial refund, but the newlyweds weren't satisfied and sought advice on Reddit "Do I just accept the money and move on?" one of them asked as Reddit users weighed in on the situation A pair of newlyweds are 'devastated' after a venue mix-up involving their wedding cake. One-half of the couple, who are located in the United Kingdom, explained the situation in an Aug. 17 Reddit post, and asked users on the platform — and specifically, a subreddit dedicated to wedding 'drama' — whether they are overreacting. The couple 'recently had a great wedding and a wonderful day where guests traveled from all over the world,' the newlywed wrote, adding that the ceremony was complete with a 'special,' custom-made cake inspired by their 'home culture.' (They did not specify what culture.) The celebratory confection — which weighed around 14 lbs. — was a centerpiece of the nuptials, but because of how busy things were, the couple 'never got to see it or taste it beyond just the initial photo op,' the user wrote. 'There was only one layer,' they later clarified, because 'it wasn't a traditional tiered cake.' 'We took a photo op but at that point people then all moved off to another room for the [after-diner] party," the user wrote. "That was the last we saw of our cake." But there were leftovers, so hope was not lost — or so they thought. 'When we got home the next day, and were planning to share it with our travelers from my hometown, we realised they gave us the wrong cake,' the user said, referring to their wedding venue. The unfortunate mix-up, they later learned, was due to a venue error. 'It took a few days to get a clear answer, but they told us they threw it out by mistake," the Reddit user revealed. 'Obviously,' they continued, 'we were devastated, but it was just human error.' That being said, the venue was making things 'very difficult,' and the newlyweds wanted an answer, or at least, they 'didn't want to just leave it at an 'apology,' ' the user wrote. 'Not only was it very expensive, but also meant a lot to us,' they said of the cake. 'Eventually,' after lots of 'back and forth,' the venue 'offered to reimburse half the price of the cake,' the user said. (They only offered 'half,' the user later clarified in a comment, 'because they served some slices, but it was only about 1/5 of the cake according to a family member.') But the couple was not exactly satisfied. 'Honestly, we were expecting a full refund at the very least,' they wrote, 'and [for] them to go beyond with some goodwill (not more money) since they really messed up and we paid them so much!' Again, they reiterated, 'It's not about the money, but I'm really shocked with how they handled it.' Seeking advice, they continued: 'Do I just accept the money and move on? We would have been happy with a reimbursement and maybe a complimentary night stay, but we won't be returning there in the future.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human-interest stories. They ended the post with two final inquiries: "Am I exaggerating? Should I let it go?" In response, most users suggested the newlyweds pursue legal action against the wedding venue or, at the very least, 'demand a full refund and an explanation,' as one user put it. A different person disagreed, instead advising the newlyweds to 'take the half refund' and accept the situation. Still others expressed concern for the newlyweds, whose cake was given away by mistake. 'The wrong cake they gave you… was that someone else's cake??? Where'd they get a different cake from?!' one user queried, while another said, 'Someone else missed their cake also. Sorry for both bridal parties.'
