Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has high praise for Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman

USA Today16 hours ago
It's one thing for analysts to praise the work you have done, its entirely another when someone in the coaching fraternity does, and that's what happened recently with Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman.
Former national championship winning LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was recently on the Pardon My Take podcast, when the conversation turned to the Irish and Freeman. He went on to say that 'I love the coach at Notre Dame. I'm good friends with him, I've been there a couple of times. He's a great guy, the players love him. He runs a tough practice.'
It's pretty telling the praise that Orgeron has for Freeman, as he knows exactly what a championship-level program looks like, and there is one brewing in South Bend. It's only a matter of time until the Irish break through and end their title drought, and we could see Orgeron celebrating that victory.
He also mentioned Notre Dame's Week 1 opponent Miami, and said the their head coach Mario Cristobal 'has done a tremendous job. The talent level at Miami, that he's brought through is phenomenal.' It's going to be quite the season opener in under two weeks.

Steelers in 'consideration' for standout free agent visit, per report

Steelers fans rejoice, one of the best free agent offensive linemen may be on his way to Pittsburgh. On Tuesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that G Dalton Risner, who just finished a workout for the Bengals, is considering the Steelers for a potential visit as he decides on his future landing spot. "Free agent guard Dalton Risner, who worked out for the Bengals today, will also visit the Seahawks, per source. Visiting the Steelers also a consideration," Fowler wrote on X. "Wants to take multiple visits before making a decision." Selected by the Broncos with the 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Risner wasted little time making an impact and was named to the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team in his debut season — which featured a talented ensemble of players such as DE Nick Bosa, DT Dexter Lawrence, RB Josh Jacobs, and more. Risner has 81 games of starting experience from his time with the Broncos and Vikings. At best, he would challenge the Steelers' guards for a starting spot — and at worst, he'd serve as arguably one of the league's best backups. Warriors forward Draymond Green's hilarious Jimmy Butler reaction to Heat trade

The post Warriors forward Draymond Green's hilarious Jimmy Butler reaction to Heat trade appeared first on ClutchPoints. At this juncture of the offseason, there isn't much player movement left as teams have mostly settled in and finalized their moves in free agency. (Of course, the Golden State Warriors are the exception to the rule, as they are still yet to make a move in free agency because of their inability to resolve the Jonathan Kuminga situation.) But a few days ago, the Miami Heat made a trade, sending Haywood Highsmith to the Brooklyn Nets for a second-round pick to get underneath the tax line — drawing the attention of Draymond Green in the process. Green, who has clearly bonded with Jimmy Butler ever since the Warriors brought in the six-time All-Star in a trade back in February used this opportunity to defend his co-star while shading Heat fans in the process. 'Y'all(internet experts) wanted Jimmy to come off the bench behind dude [Highsmith] and 5 months later The Heat traded him for a bag of chips. That's wild,' Green wrote on his official account on Threads. It's not quite clear who Green is referring to and whether or not there were really Heat fans that were asking for Butler to be benched in favor of Highsmith. But what's clear is that back then, Heat fans were getting fed up over Butler's behavior when he did everything but actually pull off the trade himself just to piss off the Miami front office and goad them into trading him away. Perhaps there were some Heat fans who wanted Butler to be humbled and know his place, and perhaps promoting Highsmith to the starting lineup at his expense would have done that. But the Warriors forward may be stretching the truth a bit in the name of brotherhood. Warriors forward Jimmy Butler burned Heat bridges Butler is forceful, and he wants to get his way regardless of how he does it. When he wasn't able to get his contract extension from the Heat, he became very difficult to deal with until he got his desired trade to the Warriors — a team that joyfully gave him the contract he so desired. He became such a beloved figure in franchise lore that seeing him go out like that just so he could get one last big payday certainly broke the hearts of thousands of Heat fans. Nonetheless, the Heat are happy to move on with their lives, and so is Butler, who thrived following his arrival on the Warriors. Giants great, Super Bowl winner Phil Simms lands new broadcasting gig after CBS exit

Giants legend Phil Simms is returning to the broadcast booth after his exit from CBS. The star quarterback, who called games for NBC and CBS from 1995 to 2016, will work three Big Ten college football games on Peacock this season, NBC Sports announced Tuesday. Simms was tabbed to serve as an analyst for the Illinois-Western Illinois game on Aug. 29, the Rutgers-Miami (OH) game on Sept. 6 and a third game to be determined alongside play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister. I have had a great relationship with Paul Burmeister over many years so I know it going to be fun and exciting to work with him,' Simms said. 'I appreciate NBC for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait for the college football season to start.' The Super Bowl XXI MVP last played for the Giants in 1993 before joining ESPN as a studio analyst for the 1994 NFL season. Simms also announced weightlifting events during the 1996 Olympics and was a sideline reporter during NBA games. When CBS acquired the AFC package from NBC in 1998, CBS hired Simms and paired him with Greg Gumbel and later Jim Nantz. 3 Phil Simms on NFL Today's coverage at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada for Super Bowl LVIII. He worked as a studio analyst for CBS's 'THE NFL Today' from 2017 to 2023 before he was part of the network's major makeover as his contract expired. Simms, who worked at the network for 26 years, exited the show alongside former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason while Matt Ryan and JJ Watt succeeded the pair in 2024. 'Nobody asked me, talked to me or anything like that,' Simms told the 'Front Office Sports Today' podcast in May 2024. 'I waited for I guess over a couple months to see what CBS was doing, and I think the longer you wait, the more you know it's not gonna work out in your favor.' 'We're excited to welcome Phil back to the NBC Sports team,' said Sam Flood, executive producer at NBC Sports. 'Phil is an elite analyst who gives the viewers the why of the game, while making sure to entertain. We are looking forward to having him back on the call for Peacock.'
