Why Lamborghini Steers Clear of Continuation Cars

While automakers like Bentley and Aston Martin capitalize on their heritage by producing continuation cars, Lamborghini has firmly stated it won't follow suit. Despite the nostalgic delight sparked by its 2021 modernized Countach, the Italian marque remains committed to preserving the authenticity of its past without recreating its classic models like the Miura, Diablo, or Murciélago.
'We are not interested,' said Giuliano Cassataro, head of Lamborghini's Polo Storico, in an interview with The Drive. For Lamborghini, their classics are untouchable relics. 'For us, there is only one Countach,' Cassataro explained. 'It was born in that year, with this color, in this configuration, and with this interior, and it must be like it was. We don't want to modify the past.'
This approach contrasts sharply with the growing trend of continuation cars, which faithfully reproduce iconic models for wealthy collectors. Automakers like Bentley and Aston Martin have embraced this practice, drawing on history as a significant asset. Lamborghini, however, is adamant about honoring its legacy without rewriting it.
The modern Countach, unveiled in 2021 to celebrate the car's 50th anniversary, exemplifies Lamborghini's philosophy. Though inspired by the original, it wasn't a continuation car. Instead, it was a thoroughly modern machine, sharing little more than a name and design cues with its predecessor. It was built as a one-off for a special customer, using the chassis number of a Countach crashed in 1974.
Exceptions like this might occur for Lamborghini's most devoted customers, but the automaker isn't likely to mass-produce replicas of its classics. Cassataro notes that while vintage Lamborghinis are stunning to behold, their outdated technology diminishes the driving experience compared to modern supercars.
By steering clear of continuation cars, Lamborghini reinforces its commitment to innovation while cherishing its heritage. Each new model is a bridge to the future rather than a recreation of the past, ensuring that the Raging Bull remains an icon of cutting-edge design and performance.

Aston Martin's New Valkyrie LM Is As Close As You Can Get To a Le Mans Hypercar, With Just 10 Made

Aston Martin has revealed its new Valkyrie LM hypercar, which is derived from its Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) counterpart competing in the world-famous race this weekend. The Valkyrie LM's 10 owners will enjoy the same 7-speed transmission and 6.5-liter V-12 engine in the LMH version, but this modified engine produces 697 hp compared to the race version's 670. Aston Martin is making the Valkyrie LM accessible to amateur drivers by removing race series-specific elements like added weight and FIA-regulation electronics in favor of a cockpit interface tailored for track day usage. The automaker also changed the Valkyrie LM's torque control to a friendlier open-loop configuration instead of closed-loop with fewer internal adjustments, removed torque sensors managing power delivery for less technological oversight, and altered the V-12 engine to accept standard fuel. Operating in rear-wheel drive, the one-seater Valkyrie LM features Pirelli tires, semi-automatic paddle shifters like the LMH version, and a double-wishbone front and rear suspension with pushrod-actuated torsion bar springs with adjustable side and central dampers. This race-derived suspension set-up optimizes track performance and adjustability, and the cockpit contains a custom carbon-fiber race seat with shoulder support and headrest padding. This multi-million dollar Aston Martin also has an FIA safety harness, fire suppression system, and steering wheel with an integrated display and shift lights. Aston Martin is ensuring the Valkyrie LM's 10 buyers get the most out of their purchase with its optional track day program launching in Q2 2026. The track day program ensures each car is set up and prepared as it should be, with assistance from professional engineers, allowing drivers to push the model's limits, which include top speeds exceeding 200 mph. Before hitting the track, the program has owners train on a simulator with driver coaching sessions. Each Valkyrie LM comes with a helmet, Head and Neck Safety (HANS) device, driver's suit and boots, molded earpieces, driver's gloves, and fireproof underwear. Drivers opting into the track day program will have Aston Martin store their Valkyrie LM, allowing them to simply fly in, race, and fly out. Adam Carter, Aston Martin's Head of Endurance Motorsport, said in a release: "It is important to emphasize that the Valkyrie LM is close to identical to the race car that is currently competing in WEC and IMSA, with only a few minor deviations to ensure it is a non-homologated variant and is accessible for customers to experience and enjoy. Valkyrie LM represents the most authentic Hypercar track experience that is now available." The Valkyrie LM distinguishes itself beyond its ability to resemble race car dynamics and low production count. While the 10 Valkyrie LM owners will be part of a small club, Aston Martin facilitates a community aspect within this exclusive group through its track day program. Customers participating in the program will enjoy a Q2 2026 hand-off event marking first drives, two fully supported track days in Q3 2026, and additional track runs at F1 circuits in Q4 2026. Aston Martin's Valkyrie LM is an endurance racing fan's dream come true. Pricing has yet to be announced. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Bentley Stops Some Exports to the U.S., Keeps Pricing Steady for June

Bentley has halted imports to the U.S. on "stock" that would sit at dealerships waiting to be sold, a ccording to Automotive News. Bentley will continue to import cars directly ordered by customers and said pricing for U.S. models is guaranteed to remain unchanged on orders placed through the end of June. Bentley had around 378 vehicles left in its dealership stock at the beginning of June. The tariffs implemented by the Trump administration have sown confusion and uncertainty in the automotive industry. Even after officials from the United States and the United Kingdom reached a trade agreement in early May, British automakers are unsure of where they stand. According to a report from Automotive News, Bentley has halted some exports to the U.S. while keeping its current pricing unchanged as it awaits further clarification on this trade agreement and what the tariffs mean for its business. Starting on April 3, the U.S. began imposing a 25 percent tariff on imports of all light-duty vehicles. However, the trade agreement between the U.S. and U.K. will see that tariff reduced to 10 percent for the first 100,000 vehicles imported each year from the U.K. After those first 100,000 vehicles arrive, the 25 percent tariff will go back into action on vehicles shipped from the U.K. Prior to the Trump administration's 25 percent tariff, vehicles imported from the U.K. received a 2.5 percent tariff. Bentley In an interview with Automotive News, the CEO of Bentley Americas, Mike Rocco, said, "We are managing the tariff situation day to day," and that "every U.K. manufacturer is trying to understand the matter." The publication states that other Bentley officials confirmed at a media event in Montana that current pricing for U.S. models is guaranteed for orders placed through the end of June. While orders directly placed by customers will continue to be brought over to the U.S. and delivered to customers, Bentley has stopped shipments of "stock" that would sit at dealerships and need to be sold. These vehicles are instead being held in the United Kingdom for the time being. According to Rocco, Bentley had around 378 vehicles in its U.S. dealership stock at the beginning of June. U.K. automakers brought around 102,000 vehicles to the U.S. in 2024, AN said via the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Several automakers import vehicles from the U.K., including luxury specialists such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Land Rover, more affordable cars from Mini, and high-performance sports cars from Aston Martin and McLaren. Although the trade deal between the U.S. and U.K. purports to lower the impact of import tariffs relative to the 25 percent hit applied to cars from other countries, the details of how that cap of 100,000 vehicles will be allocated to different automakers remain unclear. It appears that Bentley's approach for the moment is to wait and see how things shake out.
